ROTATING MAPS. Can I just join a damned game with my precious few minutes and PLAY without waiting for the map to load again?

COCKPIT OFF/ DEVICELINK DISABLED. Also known as COCKPIT ON/ DEVICELINK ENABLED. Why people? Explain the frikken logic to me please.

AI FLYABLE. Stop doing this. It doesn't add any tactical, historical, or intersting element to the game. If you allow externals + icons you just make air-quake.

I-153 vs 109z vs P51 vs La7. Limit the planes to something interesting, challenging, and historical.

ICONS ON, COCKPIT OFF, NO VUCLHING, NO CURSING, NO REST-ROOM BREAKS WITHOUT OUR CONSENT. Are you kidding me? There are 60 other servers with this same setup and the same dippy rules on HL and they are ALL EMPTY.

WESTERN FRONT ONLY. ALLIES: 20 players, AXIS: 3. Loads and loads of fun.

FULL REAL + STFU NEWB. See also: FR + SNOW MAPS + SKIN DOWNLOAD CURIUOSLY ON, FILLING YOUR CACHE WITH BRIGHTLY COLORED SKINS.

ANOTHER SENSLESS SERVER MESSAGE. Hey, nice feature. Now stop it, I keep missing what team mates are saying because your server keeps telling me about your geocities site, or ACE_VENTURAS gunstats, or some other nonsense that adds nothing to my precious play-time.

HL CHAT. Get mirc and go find yourself a home on irc. I don't understand why so many people get on HL and never play the game.

COOPS, OR THE DISTICT LACK OF.

I ran a server. It had a following. I threw out conventional logic and created something that was, without doubt, a lot of fun. If I could afford to do it again, you better believe I would. I can't though, so while there are crappy server made public, so will there be my crappy attitude towards them.

Just as there are servers that are not agreable to my liking, there are forum posts that are not agreable to your liking. I could just forget about those other servers, or you could just forget about those other posts.

Either would be very boring.

while i dont have device link working YET.. i can understand your point on that for sure.

i see what you mean about the servers messages popping up every 2 minutes with maybe 8 different subjects. but there is a fix, COMMS.. hop on a servers comms, and youll notice the text that shows up is people complaining 90 percent of the time/ 10 percent informational. not only are you talkin to others in a much faster format. remember..TEXTING = death ..at the moment you think your clear . doesnt happen with comms. wed love to hear ya at warclouds baldie.

I agree with you Baldie that the Server messages messes up the chat, they should make the chat messages appear on a different line or something. Also map rotation can be a bit cruel sometimes, you enter the game, you take off, fly for 10 minutes to get to the action and bang, map change.

Oh and externals enabled shouldn't be allowed too.

When I read Baldie's posting, I first wanted to reply to every point he made... but then again, after thinking about it, and seeing especially Steve_v's reply, I only have to add two things:

@ Steve_v: http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Nice one, as Txmx says, it really pretty much sums it up.

@ BaldieJr: You know, there are other ways of venting other than telling everybody your enlighted opinion about online gaming. Don't like it, don't fly it.
Besides, I don't see where the problem is in hosting your own server again. See, you don't have to keep it going 24/7; just run it when you are online.
Unless of course you currently belong to those unfortunate people that only have a slow connection - too slow for hosting, but - in your case - apparently fast enough to troll around a little http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/34.gif .

While some of your points are partially agreeable for me, most of them are not. Especially that "go use mirc to chat" approach. Pretty arrogant - people not only meet in HL to fly, you know. It also has become the meeting place to chat about almost anything with friends and fellow pilots - and I really can't see anything wrong about that. If you only like to have some mostly quiet teammates who only limit their chat to important things for the mission, I suggest you start playing offline missions with KI pilots.

Have a good time, if you still know how. S!

Old Canuck;

That was funny. I actually "laughed out loud", seriously, I did!

BaldieJr;

Now, maybe your just having a bad day or something. I've always enjoyed reading your posts.

I don't see why people have to complain about this sort of thing. People like different things. If the majority of servers are not to your exact, very specific, liking, then that sort of makes you the minority, right?

What I'm saying is that I sometimes have a difficult time finding a server that is EXACTLY what I want. Now, I could just start my own server. Or, I could suck it up for a little while, and fly settings that I can live with. It's my choice. I don't go complaining that their setting aren't to my liking.

In addition, some people like using the features included in the products. For example, externals. Some may say it gives the pilot situational awareness that he loses due to the realities of computer/visual limitations. Others feel that it's a waste not to look at the models and only be confined to your cockpit. Still others like being able to watch the action after they've departed the land of virtual dog fighting. Either way, these reasons are theirs. I personally like looking at the models in flight and in combat, and being able to watch the action. Why? Because I'm not really in a Bf-109 being shot at, and I can, and I'm not a very good pilot, so I like being able to watch the action after I (frequently) die.

I understand your gripes, maybe not specifically, but I sympathize with the general statement. You're unhappy that you can't find something that fits your ideal server image. You state that you can't afford to start another server. That pretty much leaves you with the "closest possible match" option, just like me and the scores of other online pilots.

I haven't heard anything about Victor Borge in a long time...he isn't still around is he?

When I read that first line, and then the no online no whine, I could just HEAR Bob Marley singing that. It was simply hilarious. I love making up lyrics to songs on the fly, but that one was one of the best for the situation.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

- There are a LOT of players and a LOT of different things they want in a mission - Rotating maps add to the versatilitie if well-planned and the duration of the cycle is long enough.

+ COCKPIT OFF/ DEVICELINK DISABLED. Also known as COCKPIT ON/ DEVICELINK ENABLED. Why people? Explain the frikken logic to me please.

- (1) I didn't KNOW you could enable devicelink, but now I do... hmmmm, the OFF/ON state was even requested some minutes back by someone USING it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif so ...

+ AI FLYABLE. Stop doing this. It doesn't add any tactical, historical, or intersting element to the game. If you allow externals + icons you just make air-quake.

- You are not alone on the world RS_ squad greetz http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif they only fly bombers http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif thats mostly AI so...

+ I-153 vs 109z vs P51 vs La7. Limit the planes to something interesting, challenging, and historical.

One of the "fun" stuff for me is... how would "old" planes like the i153 perform against "new" planes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif well... I find it interesting - but most will fly the i153 one time or another the whole game is filled with em http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif and THEN they complain about the yp80 flying :P LOL

+ ICONS ON, COCKPIT OFF, NO VUCLHING, NO CURSING, NO REST-ROOM BREAKS WITHOUT OUR CONSENT. Are you kidding me? There are 60 other servers with this same setup and the same dippy rules on HL and they are ALL EMPTY.

- OK but for most games ya need some rules... Racing would be impossible without rules e.g.

+ FULL REAL + STFU NEWB. See also: FR + SNOW MAPS + SKIN DOWNLOAD CURIUOSLY ON, FILLING YOUR CACHE WITH BRIGHTLY COLORED SKINS.

+ ANOTHER SENSLESS SERVER MESSAGE. Hey, nice feature. Now stop it, I keep missing what team mates are saying because your server keeps telling me about your geocities site, or ACE_VENTURAS gunstats, or some other nonsense that adds nothing to my precious play-time.

+ HL CHAT. Get mirc and go find yourself a home on irc. I don't understand why so many people get on HL and never play the game.

Online rules, why? For one nothing is scripted. 2, you really don't get anybetter offline. AI planes are to predictable, Flying against another person, especially in full real settings, is the greatest. Each person is diffferent in there flying style, and can throw you off in a second if they know what their doing. If you don't like online play, try getting up with a squad, teamwork is what really makes this game really fun. As far as maps rotation goes, I think it adds variaty into the game. I get sick playing the same old "online" maps. Hats off to all those people who take the time and effort to create online missions and perfect them. If you haven't ever tried to make one, it's not as simple as it seems. Now I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get flamed for this but I don't care. I think their are only two real reasons yall don't like online play. One is that either your internet connection or computer specs aren't exactly up to par. Not everyone can afford a decent running machine or high speed internet, so some may blame the makers of the game for not making it "friendly" to lower end machines or iternet connections. Two, ( and I realy feel this one is the biggest one) Every time you jump online you get waxed. You may be able to beat every pilot career mode and do it perfectly, but the first time you jump online, someone's owning you before you even get trimmed out lol. It's happened to me and I'm sure it's happened to everyone who play's online. But hey, that's how you get good. If this game had no online playing, do you think it would have such an active community? NO! They might as well put on the xbox or ps2, and just be another arcade game. If you wanna cry and moan about online play, then quit playing it and leave the space in these forums for those of us who are active in the online community. Go play your missions and be happy with the way it is in single payer. And If I offended you with this post, well get over it. If you have a beef with me, well your just gonna have to go ONLINE!. I'm in the warclouds server every friday night eastern standard time. And if if you decide to come on in and join the rest of us "online" lovers, you better have you &@!!$ screwed on tight, because "ding ding" schools in boys! And it's time for your first lesson!

Not everyone can afford a decent running machine or high speed internet, so some may blame the makers of the game for not making it "friendly" to lower end machines or iternet connections.

ANS. High speed cable / 3.2 mhz processor, 2 gigs RAM, yadda yadda yadda so maybe it's number 2 ...

Two, ( and I realy feel this one is the biggest one) Every time you jump online you get waxed....
=========================
ANS. Not really, I go onlne with good friends and enjoy their company despite our language barriers. I play the game to have a lttle break from work ... to have fun not to pump my ego.

I got this one after shooting down an entire squad of P-51's in my I-153 (my hair was perfect).

Baldie;

That rubberband man is hilarious. Good link. I was just thinking the other day, "Man, that's a snappy commercial."

the lack of coops online is why i mainly play direct ip after making a date with friends.

i wish there was a way to host a dedicated coop server... it would need a feature to announce to HL that the round is over and people can join and once all pilots are ready it should launch the mission.
this could either work with the ngen or a list of missions uploaded to the server.

The genius of this sim is the variety of ways to enjoy it. Some enjoy making movies, some enjoy coops, dogfights with various settings, some enjoy doctoring screenshots in PhotoShop, etc. No need to exclude any of these groups from the forum IMHO.

Back on topic, BaldieJr has earned the right to his critique by putting in his time as host on Hyperlobby. I had a lot of fun getting chased around by I-153s on the Fighterjerks server and YES his hair was perfect ... all three of them.

No hair = perfect hair.

You'll notice that none of the smileys have hair, and they're a happy lot.
