For more than 2 years I'm browsing this forum. I'm not an avid poster. Instead, I really enjoy reading every post, every hot topic, every whine and so on.
Now, congratulation for what , you may ask? I will start to say that this community become very mature. You can judge that by the content of every topic, especially the "tech" ones. Even me,a total ignorant in thee good ole days of IL2 in the area of FM,DM,weapons and stuff, I'm starting to understand more and above all, I know many other things than before. Not necessarly about flying. Therefore, I really believe this forum became, more or less, a gathering of pretty much educated people. And I'm proud I am a part of this.
Another aspect is the fact that almost ALL posts have at least one reply. This was not happening before. Everyone , or almost everyone, is keen to help the ones in trouble, giving advices and , yes, making some fun. This is good people!Damn good!
Of course, some may argue that there are still a lot of whinners. That could be true, butt check the posts of such whines! You'd be amazed how they are puting the problem. They force you to investigate,if the problem is not known on your side.Even whining got more class in this forum!
A final point, about the mods.Guys, you are doing a great job.I've seen posts that you could lock/deleted them on the spot but you've let them go. That gave some spice to this board. Afterall, all of us were sad by loosing PL.Congrats to you as well!
Well, that was all I wanted to say. Congrats to all once again!

Nice post, Zayets.

I have been noticing this as well, and I want to say that I am darn glad to see this happening. There always was a core of intelligent, courteous people. It just seemed that they were always being out-shouted by those that are not.

I think that what really happened was that the more mature posters grew a backbone, and started standing up for common sense. If you look over at ORR, you will see that there is a thread that is being allowed about the FW-190 view . . . yes . . . again. BUT; this time it seems way different. This time . . . they have "Ivan The Terrible" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif over there, and he said, straight up, that inflammatory posts in the thread would be deleted without warning, and the poster could be banned. Now THAT is how to moderate a forum. With Ivan's guidance, Oleg may calm down enough from the way he was treated the last time to give one final word on the matter, even if it is another "no". (I hardly ever fly the FW, so I have no reason to get involved in that anyway).

Yes, Sir. Things are better.

OK, Tsisqua, I can`t take it any longer! Who`s the person in your sig? There`s something a little haunting about it. Maybe it`s a sad story... I checked those words and it seems it`s a Cherokee language.

(I`ve tried asking this a couple of times before, but whenever I did the Post would take ages to go through so i`d give it up. Creepy. Hope it works this time).

You can tell how much the forums have grown up by the fact that Oleg himself regularly posts in his ready room again after a long absence.

Yes tsisqua, things are way better now. I don't know the exact cause but I'm happy that is happening in front of our very eyes!
I think, no, I am sure that as a game (or sim if you want) , IL2 will survive for long. I come from Falcon4 and I know how it is. They are different stories, but they are so much tied togheter regarding the community formed around it/them. Of course, there are many other communities for IL2 (simHQ,BA,CWOS etc) but IL2 is the thing keeping us together. And since I am at this, I want to thank Jiri Fojtasek for the great Hyperlobby.Thank you very much, indeed!

I've learned a lot here as well. In a way it was good to experience the struggling months this forum went through because it leaves a deeper appreciation of the maturity it has now.

Thanks to the mods for hanging in there and here's hoping that CrazyIvan doesn't have to use his superpowers too often http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/10.gif

I've been hanging around these boards for a long time--since before FB was released. I just read for a long time before I decided to register and post.
At that time, I was a member at a very well-moderated forum, populated by mostly very intelligent and educated people. However, those folks were mostly knowledgeable in humanities, literature, and medical disciplines. That is to say, interesting and thoughtful folks, but laking the historical and technical discussion that I really enjoy.
In those days the boards here were a mess--constant flaming, pointless whining, no respect for anybody.
However, I to have noticed this forum slowly maturing since FB's initial release. Today, thoughtful, supported posts are the norm while flames, obnoxious whining and other petty issues are not only uncommon, but untolerated by the community (not to mention the moderators). Thank you to all that have made this forum what it is now, and I hope we all can continue to improve it.

Nice posts.

I've been around for about a year, and have also been more of a lurker than a poster. I think the forum has improved enormously. I fear that once or twice I may have contributed to the downturn, but hey! - in the long run, we're all dead. I try to be constructive, at least http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

On balance, people here are top notch, and I learn something every day.

Thanks to all the great posters who teach much, and expect little. Good effort, people.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.
