Ok I was sitting at work thinking about the nuts that look wrong on the Mk 9 so i took some photos in the cockpit of the Mk19 to show you what the bolts look like in real life and THATS pressurised, they are only 4 BA in size. This was shot from my head position whilst sitting in the cockpit so you can see their real size from a pilots view............I also took about 40 plus shots round the cockpit, so any one modelling the Spit require them I could make them available, Reduced versions below these are 800 by 600 the full pics are 2450 ish by whatever..

Their size in the game doesn't differ much from what I can see here. The only question I have is their position. In the game, they are located on canopy frame, not on windshield frame like upper photo suggests. Interesting... Anyway, could You post the shot of the glass armour as well? The size of bolts mounted around this is more interesting, since THEY are just huge in the game http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Looking at the altimeter, it's interesting to see that it's calibrated in millibars - for some reason, I'd always assumed they used inches of mercury.

TT, do you know if that aircraft been modified in any way ?

Just kind of curious about it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

some of the instruments have been replaced over time although a lot are originals, problem being is you cannot get the originals overhauled these days....

Ednavar the curtains are there to keep out drafts see the pic below http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif also as to the lack of an armoured screen well I took an shot from a odd view for ya http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yes it is...

Also Moo.Cow the altimeter is a military one as it does have a part number on it, but I will say the standard settings in the UK are measured in millibars............ I told you the pics i posted here were reduced hehehehe, here is the altimeter for you a bit closer http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It lives next door to me at work and I help them out time to time, I took some pics today as i thought you would all like to see some and they may possibly help out any modellers http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I have worked on the odd Spit before in my dim and distant past..

Intresting, while the exterior of that aircraft appears to be miticulously maintained the interior of the cockpit leaves much to be desired, corrosion from leaked hydraulic fluid is prominent as well as deteriotated paint.

Its not corrosion or hydraulic oil, its engine oil and it gets in everywhere, u have to remember this aircraft has never had a total rebuild since it was built and is a living breathing plane, the staining is minor and the oil will work to prevent corrosion, To repaint that you would have to strip the cockpit out in total and that is not a 5 minute job more like a 5 month job, then a few months down the line it will be back to the same, Trust me it is maintained to a superb standard, The flash i used probably did not help as it exaggerates it

A marvellous plane, the Spitfire. When and on what models was there a 5-blade propellor?. What was its function on the models which used it? Does it have to do with torque?

Taylortony
06-15-2004, 02:05 PM
The 19 has one, they allow the engine to transmit more power and the prop convert it into greater thrust

Some great pics by the way - is there any way to access them anywhere ?

I'm working on a large scale Spitfire at the mo and any other cockpit shots you might have would be very useful.

Yup, enjoyed it very much thanks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Just to clear something up that I wasn't too sure about, when there was the "Merlin and Griffon Powered Flypast" which planes and how many of each were there? I thought I could see 3 spitfires, 1 mustang and 1 hurricane, but wasn't too sure as it was hard to tell preciesly from the distance and the screens werent much help. Cheers http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ok the Hurri was a no show due to it nosing over, the first pair flying was the Rolls Royce Griffon Powered PR19 with a P51 Mustang Miss Helen.

The 5 later which were supposed to have a mustang and a hurri in amongst them were infact 5 Spits....

I was off the site then as i was going to work to get some close ups of some Aircraft, but i got a distant shot see below, I dont know which ones were there
http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/IL2_Skins/Guest/Spits_filtered.jpg

Then there was a Spit with the Lanc so you got a total of 7 Spits on the day, not bad by any means http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Great shots Tony. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Looks like they need a wire brush and zinc cromate for some of the rust tho. Doesn't look like enough oil is getting to it in the footwells. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Better to get it taken care of now before it's too late, they look bad. The FAA inspectors over here in the US would have a sh*t fit if they saw it. Nothing flies with any kind of rust in the US.

ITS NOT RUST... It is engine oil and gasses that seeps through the seams..

Nexus the other spit there with the lanc was this one, I took this as she taxied in, its coded 21 V

Edit: wow, you posted that other pic while I was typing, cheers thats cool as well http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Btw, how many Lancasters are there that fly? Because on Sunday a Lancaster with a spitfire flew directly over my house and did a little show above my village and was wondering if it was the same one I saw the day before...
