This is a great program, although the format is different than most warbirds programs. The Collings Foundation flies the B-24 (Dragon and His Tail) and a B-17G (9-0-9) and offer flight experiences for enthusiasts. The cost is about $400 and the flight lasts 30-40 minutes. It's an eye-opening experience. In the warm Texas sun, a ride in a noisy, windy fuselage would be a great experience. At 30,000 feet over Germany, 60* below zero, with flak on all sides, you can imagine that it wasn't so great.

They'll be in our area at the end of June. My son and I both flew in the B-24 two years ago; this time I'm looking forward to making the rounds in the B-17.

Hey ScorpionWorm1, define few hrs away. I'm about 20-30 min away depending on traffic. If u miss it let me know cause I'll burn at least 1 roll of film probably more. (35mm Nikon w/ 35-80 zoom and the other lens hits 210). Don, I think your right, I'll fly over Tx. without getting shot at thanks. Have you hit the Lonestar Flight Museum in Galveston? If your ever there, it is a must see. Most of their planes are still flown. I got pics if anyone wants some. (Their P-38 Putt Putt Maru and their P-47 have skins on il2skins.com)

Not the museum in Galveston, but a few years back I spent a day in Brownsville with their wing of the CAF, and another day in Midland at the CAF museum there. That was before they renamed it "Commemorative Air Force." You're fortunate to be at the center of warbirds restoration and flight in Texas. Anytime these planes are in my area, I try to see them. They do a great job.

Some of the wings still use Confederate Airforce but most have changed. The Texas Raider (B-17g)is out at Hobby Airport getting a major overhaul. They had 2 engines off and the moveable section of the rudder. The green was seriously sun-bleached because she no longer has a hanger. I got to see her right after she had been re-done and to see her recently like that was a bummer.
