I was playing a Japanese quick mission from AEP and when flying low over areas with an abundance of palm trees, I noticed that my framerates would dip significantly. This happened when I was panning around in the external view. Of course, when I panned towards the sky, the framerates were smooth as silk.

I'm wondering whether it's my CPU or video card that's causing the bottle-neck. Your feedback will help me decide what I need to upgrade in preparation for what's coming this fall...

Specs:
ASUS A7N8X
Barton 3000+
1GB Corsair PC2700 (dual-channel)
ATI R9700 Pro (Cat4.3)
WinXP Home

Likely neither...unless you want to spend big money on a Athlon FX-51 (or is it 52 now). But you'll still probably be choppy on the palm tree's. They need to be toned down a notch.

what are your settings?? with a rig like that you shouldnt be seeing any slow down. at least i wouldnt think so you may want to post this in the f.b tech forum if you dont get an answer here.from what i know{wich isnt much http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif}it mabie that you have some settings off on your pc thats slowing it down you may also post any benchmark scores for someone to look at. like even black death track

You should have no bottleneck... seems like a pretty well balanced rig to me.....try tweaking your settings. Are you in perfect mode? try dropping to excellent. Just how much of a frame hit are we talking here? Also go here (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) and download Adware 6.0... and then go here (http://www.safer-networking.org/) and download Spybot Search & Destroy 1.2 run them both. Both tools are free and remove spyware from your system.. which can significantly hog up resources. You might also want to make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card and sound card by going here (http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp) and here (http://www.soundblaster.com/drivers/) and do a defrag of your hard drive. If all that does nothing I would suggest you go to the tech forum aka Community Help.

It is more of the texture issue, your system is fine.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Sorry for the late replies folks, but thanks Bearcat for taking the time to post those links for me. I actually downloaded all three freebies and used them (I've always been too lazy to find and download them despite the raves I've read and heard about them).

Anyhow, according to Fraps and the Blackdeath track, I averaged 31fps. That's at 1024x768x32, excellent settings, 2x-AA, 8x-AF. Let me know if that score seems off. Otherwise, I'll assume Icefire and CrazyIvan are correct regarding the performance hit the jungle textures impose. Again, thanks everyone for your time.

P.S. IceFire, your sig (of the Tempest) is one of the best sigs I've ever seen.
