I can't post over there as I'm not registered and can't be bothered to register somewhere new just for this.

Anyway I think off = off. ( http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif think of the movie makers!!!)

What I would really like is the option for imperial measurements to be displayed in the speedbar -not that I' being asked that particular question but I'm feeling generous so I'll offer an opinion anyway. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I agree off should mean off. This means it could be fullll real. I can just see it now though- all the people that call others noobs for using the speedbar as a crutch. I mean, who uses speedbar anyway? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Please don't force neon text on the screen.

If it simply must be, make it a toggle.

Cheers,

I'm in favor of a toggle.

I spend my time flying almost ALL of the aircraft in the game at one time or another. Learning the different instruments in each plane steepens the learning curve and is a liability at times. During those times when I'm feeling more competitive and want the information more readily available, I want the speed bar on.

Like Simon, I'd also like the ability to toggle between Imperial and Metric values. I've grown accustomed to the metric at this point so this isn't a sticking point, but would be a nice touch nonetheless.

It could be set in steps.

1. regular speedbar

2. only compass

3. everything off

Now the server or player can choose wich setting to use.
Problem solved.....no charge http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I'd be more in favor of imperial units (feet, knots, mph) than having just the heading available, even though I understand the "issues" behind it.

The speedbar must be usertoggable (not a serverside setting)

And it lacks a G-indicator.

To say it short, it's a brilliant idea! So, a big YES to it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If I may add something, it could be cool to have also in the speedbar options to possibility to have indications of the WEP status for instance with a little "W" and also the possibility to see infos like the radiator status for instance with a little indication like "R2".

This way, a single small line like "W, R2, M80, SP2" would say that the Wep is engaged, with the radiator in the second position, a melange of 80%, with the supercharger in the second position.

Of course, all these indications being able to be toggled by the player for a better immersion: I like to fly with nothing written on the screen, but sometimes this can be a real pain for instance for the radiator settings.

Also to be able to toggle the connection status symbol would be cool!

Toggleable, of course. It should be a player option, and also a server host option. And, in the case of metric vs. imperial, the player should be able to get the info in units he understands.

(I feel that Speedbar is a good simulation of "instant scanability" on the part of a pilot who's checked out on his aircraft and doesn't need to direct effort into a quick instrument scan)

I agree with this. Would also like a toggle to see a clean screen for making movies: no chat info or online icon at the top right corner.

Sure, leave heading there when it's off, those who insist it's ugly can always assign a key and turn that off too.

YAAAAAAAAWWWNNNNNNN .............
This discussion kills me.... I could never understand what the big deal was about the speedbar in so called "Full Real" servers.... It isnt like the speed bar is a huge glaring anti immersion feature. It is already set to usaer side toggle. Just turn the thing on.. if it bothers you and you like the full locked thing then just turn it off... yet someone flying a plane with a hidden compass can still navigate without weaving back and forth. As long as the pit is locked and there are no icons or map paths for you die hards whats the problem.

A 3 stage toggle seems the best solution, I think it seems to be the way to please most people.

Silly poll

As bomber pilot u need the speedbar in coops and ahter game`s or u lossing the abillty to level bomb wiht the bombside.

2e for some players wiht lower end vidio cards r glasses its not so easy to see speed or direction or alt on instruments even if the got the best vidio card , some have not the best eayside.
Remamber there are olso old players that like to find operation target or action to and the need simple some more help than ahter players.
Its more fun if we all cane play it than leave players out the game.

I couldn't agree more! The speedbar is a great sim tool. The toggle option is is the obvious and best answer. Simply allow the server or the single player the option to check speedbar type (metric vs imperial), and then toggle the speedbar info
