There is a letter in a room in the Cleft from Atrus to Yeesha which has things written on it in red ink. It doesn't sound like anything Yeesha would have written: "His garden is mine" and things like that. Then there is the page in the vault at the end of Kadish, written in D'Ni script. Here we see more red ink comments, but these do sound like Yeesha. Any speculations on this? Also, what was Yeesha referring to when she said she could accomplish things no D'Ni had ever done before? Certainly she didn't mean the rain ... We've seen that in other places.

Also ... has anyone managed to translate aforementioned D'ni script letter? I have seen a tutorial for learning D'ni but I'm still a long way from actually reading the stuff.

I think that notation on the letter reads : His burden is mine. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Oh. OK, I'll buy that.

I've also been hoping someone (else) would translate the D'ni... where are those beta testers?

Seriously, though, I believe Jehon(sp?) started that translation in beta, but hadn't quite finished. I'll go rummaging and see what I can find.

Found it...it's below and translated by Jehon.

Here is the text in the new transliteration system (NTS) with "kh" (x) and "k" (k) swapped. Mind you, it's probably not entirely correct.

If you prefer the old transliteration system then go and convert it yourself.

Anyway, seems like Guild Master Kadish has had no regrets, even in the face of death. Like Yeesha says: "and when the fall came, he clung to his possessions over all else".
The parts of the translationg which I am quite sure about are in bold, everything else is speculative.

Quote:

I have (roçé) my end. Dying/death (mile)s

Have fun speculating and finding good matches for the words in parenthesis. It could start something like this:
I have accepted my end. Death claims me.

The first sentence of the second paragraph is interesting. The word "rº" (roo) appears on Aitrus' map. It could mean "that" or "would". There's a similar D'ni word "rºb" (roob) which means "but", and it would fit well here, I think. Maybe it was intended instead of "rº", maybe not:

Linking Books are here ?but? I will not leave/escape.

The third paragraph could be something like this:
[...]
I did not die with nothing. I died with everything.
[...]
They belong to me and they will always be with me/be mine.

Too bad, I guess that means he won't let us have his treasures.

Wow, thanks. So, is there some kind of comrehensive D'ni lexicon somewhere online? I have heard people say that everything we know comes directly from the games and the novels, but where they found it is beyond me.

Also, what do you mean by "transliteration" or NTS? Does it have to do with the mapping for the D'ni Script font?

Fascinating. That Kadish dude subscribes to the creed: <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>whoever dies with the most toys wins <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I haven't got a clue..as I said, it was Jehon's translation. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Aside from that, you can find all sorts of neat stuff by checking out This Thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=3871034&m=6021026)in the D'ni History, Lore and Ages Forum.

Enjoy! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ahhh... sorry, missed that crucial piece of information. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Thanks for the redirection; I hadn't originally intended for this thread to become a discussion of the D'ni language.

Yes, "transliteration" means substituting the letters of one alphabet for another.

This site has the best account of the D'ni language, I think; it was clearly put together by a real linguist.

http://www.geocities.com/dnigrammar/

I have to say I don't think D'ni was invented by a real linguist, or it wouldn't be so Indo-European in its structure -- something more exotic seems called for! But it's nice that they bothered with morphology and not just lexicon and spelling.

another thing i realized when i read that letter - it says at the top (paraphrasing, i don't have it in front of me) "I'll use them to bring me the least" - in retrospect, that seems to link the bahro (who we each return one of when we complete Prime) and those referred to elsewhere as "the least".
