Is the On Board sound on a new SOYO mobo board better than a SB Live card. Nothing special, just the Regular SBLive 16bit Card????

I have a pritty new mobo which is great but i dont know much about On Board sound. Let me know what i should use.

P4-2.4Gig
1GigPC2100 DDR Ram
SoyoDragon Ulrtra Mobo
8X AGP Slot
GF-4Ti4600pny
20"Monitor
40GigHD
58xCDRW-Drive
DVDRom-Drive
SB-Live 5.1
DX-9.0
XP-PRO
So he tells me, "I ban the Me262 cause its turn rate is over modeled and it dosnt stall"... Then he takes off from his base in a Hurricane.

It all depends on what type of sound chip the mobo is using. The nForce 2 (Soundstorm certified) sound chips are almost as good as Audigy 2.

actually the nforce2 boards are better then audigy2 cards, for performance anyway.

here is the relevent information
http://www.tomshardware.com/game/20030405/sound_for_games-03.html#benchmarks

here is the entire article. worth the read.
http://www.tomshardware.com/game/20030405/index.html

to sum it up, they put to the test various onboard sound chips up against each other, and the audigy2 card to see which does the best at unloading the cpu of sound processing.

and the nforce2 onboard audio(mcp-t chip) uses even less cpu power then the audigy2 card, and so you get better game performace with an nforce2 board then an audigy2 card.

^ I'm just glad that we're finally getting quality intergrated sound cards in new mobos.

I am running an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe V2 motherboard with Nvidia nForce2 onboard sound.

It's awesome. Crystal clear and NO strange noises in any games I've played. No PCI sound card to deal with either. I highly recommend nForce2 sound!

Nearly everything from Creative is crap. Some cheap 4.1 speaker systems etc maybe not. But their soundcards have always sucked either sound quality-wise, or by fuxxoring PCI specs, or by having terrible drivers with zero support after the initial release. Avoid.

You`ll always get performance drop in games cuz onboard sound uses CPU.Good sound cards are rather cheap and you can anjoy games as they should work.

Right...I guess that's why the Audigy 2 is one of the best cards on the market.

I just checked my On OnBoard sound. I have a C-Media 6 chanel hardware audio chip. I have never heard of that brand. so i guess ill stick with my blaster.

Patently false CarGuy. I switched over to my mobo sound and gained 5 FPS.

They where better intill the new audigy drivers where released a little while back.. Now the audigy cards are very fast and the load on the processor has dropped a large amount.

I switched from onboard sound and bought a SBLive! 5.1 thinking that it would increase my FPS. Au contraire. I had a (small) drop in FPS instead. But I must admit that sound quality improved, so it was worth it.

Again, if you're running nVidia2 sound, everything about Audigy2 being better is null and void.

This is not true with the Nforce2 boards that use the Soundstorm chip, it is a dedicated APU which doesnt use CPU resource, although I think you are correct with regard to alot of other onboard sound systems. But Nforce2 boards (uncompramised versions) are an exception due to the APU.

Good if you like it. I'll keep my Fortissimo. I was burned by
-SB original (crappy sound)
-SB Pro (crappy sound)
-SB16 (crappy sound)
All of the above were sub-par pieces of manure. Their selling points was price. Gravis Ultrasound wiped the floor with them. Even Amiga 500 wiped the floor with them!

Then the next generation.. Awe32. Wowzers, crappy MIDI instruments, no onboard memory by default. If you put 32M in, it used only 28M thanks to chipset limitations. And the sound quality was... can you guess? Crap! Every ISA card Creative ever made has succeeded only in catching every EM interference there IS inside a PC case, and then amplifying it thousandfold!

Enter PCI era. Creative made some cheap low-end cards that actually worked - those were really Ensoniq cards, with Ensoniq chips. Creative's own next-generation product, SB Live! will forever haunt me as the most horrid POS imaginable in the world of aural suffering. It not only was incompatible with half the MoBos out there, it was not well supported on ANY platform for years! Sound quality was FINALLY on par with the low-end-cards from other manufacturers.

After this fiasko I swore never to get another Creative card. If Audigy works, fine - I'm happy for you, you managed to buy probably the ONLY (and FIRST) Creative sound card that ever has done so.

(I'm in no way affiliated with Hercules, Turtle Beach, etc... I'm just appalled by the fact that Creative still not only exists, but reigns supreme saleswise.)

Why didn't you tell me earlier??

So, now Sound Blaster's game performance is going hype??

In fact, I felt it before with my SB Live 5.1, but I needed evidence.

I got NForce2!

I'm a gamer, not a musician.

I'm going SoundStorm! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

In fact, even in IL-2, the sound quality was better in MOBO soundcard. (NO noise or problem like SB Live DE 5.1)
But performance wasn't.

And now.. with NForce2.. even performance is better.

Answer is clear.

I can't wait to go home and take out my SB. Good bye old friend. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Those of you still believe SB sounds better, try yourself with soundstorm.

It's sound is much clear even in music. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

They started getting better since Audigy, and since then they have been making great cards. I'm just saying they're good, but it doesn't mean I prefer them. I personally (like you) favor Hercules, and own a Game Theater XP sound card (awesome card, planning to buy Digifire 7.1 for 2nd PC). Also I recommend Turtle Beach sound cards.
