I was playing the campaign, and when I unload half a pack of 7.92 at 200-150m at the tail of any plane, I see no visible result. I know that plain 6 doesn't have many critical spots, but since I dunno if this little pelets can rip wings, I keep shooting there. I was jsut wondering if MG17's can rip fighter wings, and, if I'm lucky, medium bomber wings. I know they can hole the fuel tanks and criçple engines, but can they make black oil smoke come out of a fighter, or even light it up?

If you ask me the MG17 is a pea shooter in this version, back in the old IL-2 days, the MG17 could put alot of holes in a plane, and some big ones without much shooting. But now only the MG131 can put alot of holes and big holes now. It seems you have to waste alot of your MG ammo to take down one plane because they are so weak.

They are quite week, but with some luck you can even score a PK with them. ANYway they proved to be quit useful this morning, when a Hurri exploded in fron of my Emil, after a full hit with the mg's( no I wasn't using unrealistical gunnery and yes he was already damged) /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I have taken a wing off an IL2 in a pre-patch Emil with the 7.62mm machinr gun in QMB but it took almost half the Emils rather large mg load fired at the same spot to do it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Dont bother going for wings with the lower cal MG's. Go for the cockpit/canopy, engines, and radiators. Also for bombers, try for head on runs and fill the cockpits. The PBY is one of the toughest aircraft in the game, and I **** 4 of them down in 1 pass using the early Hurricane's .30 cal. I did a head on at 45 degrees and diving and killed every pilot in the 4 PBY's in 1 swoop. Its also the only real way of killing a Pe-8 with a Brewster. Remember, the meatbag in the pilot seat is the weakest part of any fighter or bomber.

I am now accepting donations to help get the PBY flyable.

Yeap, Gribb is right. And now after the patch, is quite wonderfull to see how their engine burts in flames and the plane starts falling into a spin that will take him directly to the earth, and the pilot, if he didn't had the lock to be killed with a direct hit wich ripped his braines, he lwill stay in the cockpit, hitting the instrument panel, bleeding, and screaming terrified knowing that he has no salvation frm the earth that is approsching, and when he will hit the ground he will be crushed with a tremendous forece, that will brake to pieces every bone in his body, everything covered with a horrible fear and tears, and thoughts, and then the big black woman comes and crosses you to the other sinde.........THAT"S GONNA HAPPEN TO YOU IF YOU STAY IN MY CONVERGENCE FOR TOO LONG!

OMG!!! I can be so dramatic and full of sadism sometimes!!! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Lol Von got a little carried away I guess /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
Well, then the best bet with the low cal MG's is to com from high or low six, plain 7 or 5 oclock, less than 200m, fire at a fix spot and hope the engine or pilot gets hit...
hmm fair enough.
But then, just thinking, in BoB the spits and hurris had a real bad time trying to down bombers!
And Emils had to trust the untrusty oerklion(i hope i got it right), or back then the armor was lighter?
In my post patch tests, a full pack of 7.92mm in the I-153 didn't do almost any damage at all, and some reasonable damage to the I-16.
LaGG-3's didn't even bother with the pellets /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
Obs, these "tests" were made from 200-150m

I remember a mision on the German campaign on the 109F2, Ifound some LaGG's but I took a hit from the Flak and my cannon jammed, gosh that lasted long to take them down with the mg's...(I had unlimited ammo) /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
I realy doubt thee were like that in RL , AFAIK many pilots were used to down early russian planes with mg's bursts, so....
