This patch introduces several free content updates, tweaks to online gameplay, improvements, and bug fixes and will be pushed to all platforms soon. It will also prepare the San Francisco Bay Area for the arrival of the Human Conditions DLC.

Because the Bay Area is very large, this patch is pretty hefty. As all of our online activities take place in a seamless world, we need to make sure everyone has the update so that we don’t split the community. The patch will be about 10 GB on both PS4 and XB1, and 14 GB on PC (PC specific updates in this patch can be found at the bottom of the article).

As a final note, we’d like to add that all present and future online DLC content is available in Guest Mode. If you don’t own the DLC, but your friend does, you can experience that content with them by having them invite you through the multiplayer app.

Now, on to the free updates, gameplay tweaks, improvements, and bug fixes included in this patch:

New Content and Features

• New World Locations – In preparing for the Human Conditions DLC, many new locations have been added or updated in the world map. We’re not going to list them all out here, but once this patch drops you may want to go exploring. Tweet us at @watchdogsgame (https://twitter.com/watchdogsgame) to show us what you found.

• New Dances – Marcus loves to get down to his favorite tunes, and we thought it was unfair he only had one move to express himself. We’ve added new variations to his dance emote, that can be triggered by wearing different types of clothing.

•New Emotes – We’ve added two new emotes, Mock and Laughing, to give you more ways to communicate with other players. Just try not to, you know, be too much of a jerk about it.

• New Clothing – Speaking of expressing yourself, we’ve added 12 new clothing items across various shops, and 4 DedSec clothing items. Feel free to turn your swag on accordingly.

• New Ubisoft Club Rewards (For Honor & Ghost Recon Wildlands)– Two new outfits will be available in the Ubisoft Club, featuring designs celebrating the upcoming For Honor and Ghost Recon: Wildlands games.

• Bounty Hunter Respawn – We want to keep you in the fight a little longer. As a hunter, you’ll now be able to respawn once if killed while in pursuit of a target. You’ll respawn a safe distance away to rejoin the chase if you choose that option.

• Narrative – Without spoiling all of the fun in the patch notes, we’ll just say that if you’ve finished the story you should replay the last mission to watch a little extra something at the end.

Tweaks & Balancing

Leaderboards

We realized the leaderboard interface and user experience was not optimal, and some players were confused about how it works. For example, some people wonder why their rankings are reset, and it’s because there’s a new season every 3 weeks with new rewards to win. You can read this blog post explaining the leaderboard system in detail, but here’s what we’ve done to improve the overall experience:

• An end-of-season debrief message will display when you open the app for the first time after the season ends. It will show the rank you’d achieved and the reward you earned for that season.
o There will also be a notification in your phone when the season ends
• We’ve also reworked the overall clarity and legibility of the Leaderboard App. We’d be here all day listing every specific tweak, but you should see a noticeable improvement.

Multiplayer

• [Online Invasions] Display Online Invasion download zone before it begins – We want the hacker to be able to visualize the download zone when the attack is initiated. This will give the hacker a tool to be more strategic in their approach, helping to further balance the mode.
• [Online Invasions] No more Online Invasion radius trolling – Previously, hackers could pop in and out of the search radius without penalty to avoid being detected by the victim. This is a frustrating loophole that we’ve closed by adding a decreasing delay to return to the zone each time the hacker exits the radius (or goes into the water).
• [Bounty Hunter] Reduced co-op respawn advantage in Bounty Hunter – We applied the same respawn timer to Bounty Hunter targets that is present in Co-Op Missions. This should make the gameplay more balanced when there are two targets.
• [Bounty Hunter] Removed escape disadvantage for targets in Bounty Hunter – The police AI are no longer given the last known position of the target when a hunter enters their session. Previously, this made it very difficult to escape the police in this mode. Escape time has also been reduced, once the target loses line-of-sight from their pursuers.
• We nerfed shotties – We discovered through extensive playtesting and data analysis that automatic shotguns were overpowered in PvP modes. We’ve reduced the effective range to 40m to make it function more like an actual shotgun instead of a medium-range random sniper headshot generator. This adjustment also affects single player gameplay.
• IED/ElectroShock Notifications – You’ll hear a small noise when approaching either of these devices if they were placed by another player. You’ll still probably die if you’re close enough to hear it, but at least you’ll know what happened.
• Hackerspace camping addressed – It was possible for a player to barricade themselves in the shop adjacent to the SF Hackerspace since there’s only one entrance. Objects, a junction box and camera have been added to this area to minimize camping.

Other

• Shooting polish – We’ve made numerous improvements to the feel of shooting in the game, but nothing that impacts gameplay. Improved recoil experience, tweaks to bullet tracers, sound improvements, and more. Let us know what you think.
• Improved Car On Demand – Car on Demand vehicles will now spawn closer and in more convenient locations. Additionally, they’ll no longer spawn in redzones or mission layouts.

Bug Fixes & Performance

Stability / Crashs / Performance

• Improved performance and stability

AI

• When honking behind a car in the road, the car will switch lane if there’s enough room
• Bug fix for AI sometimes entering wrong state of combat a non-lethal takedown

Game Systems

• Fixed an issue where Bounty hunter in the Bounty event would not be rewarded the followers if the event was cancelled
• Fixed an issue where the player could get stuck inside the boats if he was high jacked by another player
• Fixed numerous edge case scenarios where the player could fall under the map
• Fixed an issue where the Auto-Hack bullets would not always work as intended
• Fixed an issue where some of the hacking options became momentarily unavailable after distracting a civilian
• Using the Mass vehicle hack as a car passenger will now clear the way in front of the driving player
• Tweaks on controllers trigger ratios for vehicle acceleration.
• Fixed minor graphical issues on some vehicles

Missions

• Fixed an issue where the introduction cinematic would not play when replaying Operation W4tched
• Fixed a problem that made it possible to order a car on the barge in operation Shanghaied

Localization

• Multiple Localization fixes

Online

• Exploit : Fixed an issue that allowed players to hack vehicles without consuming Botnets
• Exploit : Fixed an issue that allowed coop partners to reveal the location of the hacker in specific conditions
• Multiple Leaderboard Fixes

Side Activities

• Fixed a visual issue with circuit terminal path visual in the Greenhouses Coop mission layout
• Fixed an issue that prevented some users from completing the side operation Zodiac Killer
• Fixed an edge case issue where a prisoner in a specific coop mission couldn’t be freed

World / 3D / Graphics / HUD / Menus

• Fixed an issue where two specific pairs of pants in the Stach & Vine shop (Corsaire - Blanc + Cendre) were not added to the inventory after purchasing
• Fixed collision issues in Alcatraz
• Fixed numerous minor graphic issues in the world
• Fixed multiple HUD and interface related issues
• A ton of world issues fixed. (Out of map, misplaced items, floating, etc.)

PC-Specific Updates

• [Video Options] SMAA T2x – This patch adds new Post-Process Anti-Aliasing mode – SMAA T2x, improved version of SMAA with a temporal component. As SMAA T2x uses temporal techniques, it doesn’t work with Temporal Filtering turned on.
• [Video Options] Dynamic Particles – This patch adds new video option that allows to turn off dynamic particles, like leaves and effects of bullet hits.
• [Controls Options] Camera auto-centering – This patch adds two new mouse & keyboard options that allow to turn off camera auto-centering while driving and sprinting. Some default bindings were changed: [F9] and [F10] are now used for Mock and Laugh emotes. Song Sneak action is now assigned on [Backspace], and Tutorial action is assigned on [Home].
• Fixed various minor issues with flickering, multi-monitor modes, UI, text and gamepad controls.

Impressive, I really didn't expect any other update beside the one for the DLC, really surprised by this update. I like what I read and hopefully it makes the game even better. Displaying the download zone before we initiate a hack is a much welcomed feature. No more randomly guessing were I may be able to hide. Hopefully the mass comm disruption has a slightly longer lasting effect on the drone of the defender, instead of them being able to use the drone right away after triggering it. If not in this patch, hopefully in the next.

I play both on the PS4 and PC, I do hope this fixes up the issues I've been having on PC. Glad that you all are trying.

Overall, the updates sound very promising and I look forward to exploring the new locations and using the Carlton Dance emote :D

Sounds like a really cool, free update for Watch Dogs 2, thanks Ubisoft. Will the new locations appear in the wilderness, beyond the available map areas?
Wondering how much larger the new locations will be, 1/10th the size of the current map, 1/5th, 1/3rd? At 10 GB, wondering how much is dedicated to the new map addition.

If we can get a closer camera view for the motorcycles, that would be much more immersive, as currently, it's like looking at the bikes from a bird's eye view. The first person view is nice, but it has no dashboard of the bike. Maybe if we can get the ATV camera attached to the bikes, that would be a nice start. The default bike camera views are too similar to each other, so one could be replaced with the closer view if that's easier. That would be really cool to see, thanks Ubisoft.

Wow! Very impressive list!

By the way, there's a minor issue I have regarding the Director Mode options. It states that it removes all the HUD elements and you're automatically in, well, Director Mode.

It turns out it doesn't remove the Phone's Camera HUD elements like the middle square and the filters option.

Also, the "static-hack lines" that usually appear on the traffic/crossing lights [allowing you to hack the green/red light] and the vehicle highlight is still on, when in Director Mode.

Which means that If i'm to film something in this mode, and a Vehicle goes past me, I'm still going to see the vehicle highlighted as though I might want to hack it.

The same goes for the traffic lights, if I'm in director mode, they still get highlighted with the lines of static connecting to my phone, as though I might want to hack them...

This kinda removes from the immersion into director mode and into filming without HUD.

ahh good ceekay points out the things i can't stand about director mode.. i would also like the fuzzy static removing from the filter in director mode please when you are using the quadcopter drone. It is meaningless and reduces the quality of film recordings.

I would also really love it if you would do what no other software publisher (i think ever) has done... make an addition where you can set a fixed camera in the game world that either points at a fixed point (including zoom/focus etc) and also one that does tracking of you on screen and follows. Naturally i would expect this to be in single player mode only and with certain restrictions, but all of this would help immensely with those of us who like to record movies and then spend hours editing them before releasing a movie as a fan based film.

Don't get me wrong, while i love director mode, i find it truly sucky that when you go into the menu for director mode it shows the view unfiltered (and frankly the mode i want to have) and then we are forced to select 1 of 3 modes and not be given the option for no filter. I've raised this as a suggestion, and really hoped to see this in the patch notes.. but didn't. and yet, it's an easy ask and an easy one to implement.. trust me!!!

On PC after a quick try

- No single performance improvements : with the same graphic setting, the framerate is less stable and tend to have more frame drop compare to preview patch. Imho i even lost somes fps in the process... . Guess real optimiztion will never happen -_-"

- Even if i disable the vehicle camera auto center, the camera Y axis still reset while driving in 3rd person

- Vehicle camera rotation still not as smooth as the "on foot" one

- you are still STUCK if you drive whatever kind of "truck", and park the vehicle in a way where the driver door is blocked. Marcus still CANT exist from passenger seat door....

Just for info. Tested F9 and F10 just now, and F9 still launches songsneak despite the keybindings clearly showing songsneak no longer bound to this key. F10 still launches 'know it all'

Just for info for anyone experiencing same thing.. just go into your keybindings and change the keybinding for songsneak to the same key it mentions (in my case backspace) and for tutorial set that to HOME. This cures the emotes issue i just noticed.

I'm on Xbox one and have installed the patch on two different consoles and the new clothing and rewards are not available in either wardrobe or corresponding clothes stores. I have restarted and cleared the system cache on both consoles and the only thing new is the emotes.

Forgive me for insisting on it, but I would really like to ask this.

and I was replied by one of the staff members, who said that he would inform the development team about it: are you going to include an option to disable aim assist COMPLETELY on controllers? I'm talking about a fourth "Off" option, in addition to "High, Normal and Minimal". Every time I see there's a new patch for the game, I get excited about the idea of this feature being added. I like playing with a controller, but I absolutely hate aim assistance. It hinders me way more than anything else, I have to fight and counter it in order to be able to aim properly, even on minimal.

An "Off" toggle which completely disables this would be a win-win situation and I can't think of any good reason why a "Completely off" setting shouldn't have been included in the first place.

Please, let me know if this feature if being considered or something or if it has been rejected or whatever. I still haven't started playing the game since I really find it very annoying to aim properly, waiting for this toggle. I'd also like to point that in the post I created an option to disable aim assistance on hacking was also mentioned, which would be nice too (mouse users have that option in the settings menu. It would be great if controller users had it too).

Please think that these are all optional toggles that would do no harm to anyone, but that would greatly help in making the game enjoyable for a lot of people that sadly don't usually voice themselves in the forums.

I have to say, i like what i just read. Though, it's always sad/annoying to see the wepons get nerfed in games. Of coruse i'm saying this because i'm always using the ones that get nerfed. Im also the one that's less likely to be on or get caught on the receiving end of these wepons.

I'am surprised they"ve set a so "cheap" screen space reflection. Maybe it's supposed to "save" performance, and that's why they locked the view so bad when you look the ground.. but meh

Two bugs I noticed since the patch:
-Every time I start the game Marcus is in different clothes than I left him.Now he is in his underpants. At least the cat shirt remained.
-The Mass Vehicle Hack and the Mass Communications Hack was switched on the gadgets wheel. I lost a few hacks because I was used to my old setup.

People still camp in the board games shop. And I still fairly consistently beat them without much hurdle.
Paying attention to potential camping spots is still a nice move. I wish WD1 receveid this much attention. That game has some horrible camping spots. In WD2 camping is almost exclusive to Bounty Hunter mode, and the new tools make dealing with campers much easier. The focus for the next patch should be adressing glitch camping.They can be killed with YourBoySerge, which most bounty hunters carry, but not everyone.Also if you don't have experiience with glitches, you might think they are behind a building, and they just shoot you out of nowhere. Glitches are a neat way to explore hidden areas. But if they make camping possible they should go.

About this patch 1.011 it judges my laptop and said very low ram to do more frame speed. If I may ask, what exactly is the recommended ram? Is it more than 8gb because mine is 8gb

I thought the recent patch removed the disadvantage of the police spotting you as soon as a Hunter joins the session as a you are about to escape, but it's still there, can this issue please be resolved?

How do you exactly replay the last mission when there is no replay button for 'Taking down Blume' ?

The SF fog effect has one the WORSE optimization i've ever saw. How the hell its Humanly possible to produce something that bad ? ( even the visual effect of the SF fog is pretty inferior to the GTA5 volumetric fog...

Saddly i forgot to have fraps include the framerate on screenshot, but i'am really serious about the values

I found something else that has changed since this patch. Now, when you hardwire money from an NPC, it also calls their phone, the same as a phone distraction.

The delivery distance was servicable, but the area was red, before I cleared it out.
Now I get why big trucks are not normally part of the Car on Demand.

The update is appreciated. But there are still many people on PC experiencing lags and frame rate drops. Make fixing that your priority.
