Heellooooo!

So....i haven't played FB in a LOOONNNNGGGGG time...

I needed a new video card. NOW I HAVE ONE!!!! YEAH!!!

I just got a Nvidia GeForce 4 ti4200 128MB, and was wondering if that is going to be enough to use the FULL settings (like water reflection) on this baby with a decent framerate. i have previiously a Geforce4 MX420, and could play it almost maxed out with a good FR...this new one should be enough right?

Don't think so, that card is kinda old even though you just bought it new. Not that is it really bad but compared with what's out today not really fast.

Running this game on perfect with that card is a no no. Which processor and how much memory you got?

You can run this game fine on full settings but without water reflection/perfect mode then.

the crad is allright but your computer is too slow for perfect settings! I have 2.8ghz and radeon 9600, 128mb with 512mb ram and on perfect setting I cant really fly with good framerate!!

Yep, I have same card and can run on full, but if I go for perfect with reflections it starts to slow.

But the card itself is still pretty good.

Your processor will be your bottleneck and will restrict what you can play. I'd recommend that you keep Anti Aliasing OFF as well as Anisotropic settings OFF with that card (I've got the same card but with a 2.53gHz processor) and play on "excellent" across the board with as high of a resolution as you can squeeze out of it with a lot of planes in the air simultaneously. Load up a few 16 vs 16 engagements to put your processor under load and see what settings you can use comfortably.

It's not a bad card, but as I said previously.. at this point it's your processor that is limiting your speed, not your video or RAM.

Best,

~T.

I have a 3000 + Athlon and 1024 MB of RAM a Radeon 9800 pro and I don't run perfect either, I can but I like a high framerate and if a city pops up even on excellent settings I notice the fps hit the floor, plus the perfect water IMHO looks too good to look real to me. I get really touchy about low fps it makes me feel sick if the fps is too low for too long.

I used that card for a year, and trust me, with water set to water=0 you can run it at perfect settings . . . Just limit the ground activity. Also flights of planes that do NOTHING but take up fps. Use the Readme file to configure the game's tweaks.

Congrats . . . that is a pretty good, albeit older, card.

Good Luck

I ran the game for yonks on perfect settings with no probelms what so ever with that card, but make sure you have good cooling (case fans, in/out) as I burnt out my first two! the last one is still going in another machine so don't worry too much!

I just bough a new CPU yesterday with the following specs:

PIV 2.8GHz, Radeon 9600XT, 512 DDR, 80GB HDD.

But I don't see the perfect setting option when I run FB. I can only run at excellent (smooth as silk). Why there's no perfect setting option?
Thx

Go to "video options", click on "landscape detail" and put to perfect option.

Make sure you are in OpenGL and not Direct X ... thats the only way you can select PERFECT mode.

The 4200 is a good card-you'll just need to do some config.ini changes plus using a decent vga tweaker to get the best out of it to get some decent fps in perfect http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thx....anyway is the card (9600XT) is fast enough for perfect setting?

One more Q,
Where can I download a tweak tool software to turn off same of the fancy stuffs cos I have an old game that I want to play (Soul Reaver 2)
Thx...

If only LOMAC can run as fast as FB....

Sorry Ptefuller I don't mean to hijack or anything. GeForce 4 Ti4200 is a good card (I almost bought it for an upgrade from my GeForce 2MX but could not find it anywhere except online, if the 4Ti4600 is not far more expensive then you should have bought ti4600).

If you want to compare between video cards see this thread
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=38610606&m=613109155
scroll to middle of page. GeForce 4 Ti4200 is quite a good card from the chart there

I just tried running on perfect but got corrupted graphics. is this due to my driver? What's the best driver for 9600XT?

Thx

i would use that computer for a coffee table and thats about it. the vid card would be a coaster for the coffee cups and even then that coffee coaster is undermodelled for the job

Not everyone has the disposable income you (or maybe your parents) have, BlackShrike. They usually compensate by showing a bit more class.

Grow up!

Well I have a AMD xp2000+ with 1gig pc2100ddr ram, 120 gig HD, 450w PS, WIN XP OS and a old nvidia gforce 3 ti200 128ddr and I run setting at high and get average 40fps. I use rivatuner to OC my card. Figure I will run the hell out of this one till the new nvidia 6800 cards drop in price and build me a amd 3200+ system.

That ti4200 was a great card in its day and if your not satisfied with your fps try OCing the card with Riva Tuner http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/

If you OC anything just make sure you have some extra fans to cool the card.

Good luck.

BlackShrike - You are a spoilt brat or just a nobhead not sure which. Most people have a budget for computers.

I am running AEP with DCG on a XP2500+, 256mb ram and a Radeon 8500 (which is a 9200 equivalent) and get smooth fps on excellent settings.

I tweak the hell out of my system tho. It pays to test and benchmark and TWEAK! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

So what's a good Graphics Card tweaker. I was using one (con't remember the name) for a while, but my "30 day" trial ran out...

I also just purchased a P4 240GHz. processor to go with the card...

Like i said, i had REALLY good performance (everything with EXCELLENT settings) with my P3 1.3 Ghz. and GeForce 3 MX420 PCI card. Only thing is when there were LOTS of planes, it would slow.

I'm hoping i can get some REALLY good gameplay with this new set-up...sounds like most people can get decent gameplay with this card in Perfect settings.

All i have to do know is build it...anyone set-up/built a CPU before?

Thanks!

Mike

Ok, I'm a spoiled brat, but I worked hard for it.
I use the "Power Strip" over clocking utillity
program, it's freeware, but they want to be paid
after 30 days.

The actual video card tweeks can be done with
the video card software supplied by the manufacturer
with the card. Tweeking helps a lot.
I shoot for max performance.

My System is as follows.

ASUS P4S800 Mother Board
INTEL P4 Extreme 3.2 2 megs cache
ATI 9800XT video 256 megs RAM
ATI TV wonder television card
22 in SONY monitor
Creative SB Audigy II sound card.
1 gig RAM, Corsair PC3200 matched set.
TDK DVD rewritable
Memorex 52x CD writer
Three Maxtor 60 gig hard drives
Two Linksys eithernet cards
400 watt power supply
Saitek X45 joystick
lots of cooling fans.....

I run perfect settings and get an average
of 60+ FPS on line with no cockpit.
50 or so with full cockpit.
1200x1600 32bit res.

last check I scored a 7,400 on the
3D Mark 2003 score.
