Killer Cool!!!!

Only thing I ask for at this point is an American campaign where I can fly P-38s, P-47s, and P-51s.

Question: Why is it that the Swedish Gladiator is flyable but the MkI and II aren't? Wouldn't it be a rather simple affair to use the J8A cockpit for them?

The J8A pit is somewhat different,IIRC. The list looks great, but where are these "mystery" birds?

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

I'm afraid not. The J8A cockpit was based on the MkI, but it was heavily customised: All instruments in metric, some German, some Swedish (and even some Brits leftover, like the compass), complete labelling in Swedish, and finally a modified Revi 3C (with no sun filter) instead of the British MkII Reflector Gunsight.

The MkII cockpit is even more different, with a split centre section in the front panel.

Think about how lucky you are. I doubt we've ever had a J8A in any flightsim, and I doubt we'll have another one for a very long time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Bunkers and whatnot...

Wow....very very cool, as a mission designer I have often lamented the lack of defensive position based ground objects to add to the aesthetic of a mission.

Very nice http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Amazon (US) and EBGames both have March 2nd as shipping date........but I don't always think they really know.

EBGames had March 3rd as the ship date over the weekend, now its back to the 2nd, not sure but maybe it will ship on the 2nd. Which means it would be in stores starting the 3rd...we can hope.

One other point: I'll trade two flyable Ho-229s for one small piece of the southern England coastline on the Normandy map.

The 2 models with clipped wings are better for lower altitude because they will have a higher roll rate. The LF versions have a modified turbo for increased low altitude performance.

No new offline campaigns nor maps, nor a word on how the new planes are going to fit in the extant ones... nothing about FMB or QMB improvements... It's great to have all those planes -specially for a skinner like me- but without more historical immersion, this is gonna become a pure online 'hey-look-my-new-plane' divertimento... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif

was a comment recently by Oleg that the pits are being worked on and that it should be flyable sometimes this summer hopefully. So its logical to think that they will be in as AI sometime by then. Supposed to be a downloadable upgrade releases soon after AEP relase..who knows what we may see in that.

Interesting: I've gotta agree with Copperhead here:

I'm delighted to see the aircraft, and Tirpitz will be a laugh, but I find it a little strange to tout a set of ground objects and maps as 'new', when we've all been using them for some time now...

And having just looked on the Ubi site, 1.22 is not described as a 'beta' there.

Still: better than no add-on...

We really have to pause and consider the enormity and range of aircraft in this sim, flyable and not. It`s quite amazing. And though the dynamic offline campaigns not mentioned, it`s been mentioned many times that are new ones in AEP, so I`m confident it`s in.
If not I will indeed complain.

It was nice to see the official list at last.
The bf 110 and the Spit are ganna be soooo cool to expirience.
But then again I notice a few things:

at least 5-6 of these planes (at best) saw only very limited use in WWII. The Me 163, though over 400 were produced, achieved only 9 victories. On the other hand we DON'T get the B-25 or a flyable Hawk 75, or flyable Morane or JU 88 or or or....

There are NO offline campains, NO new level-bombers (I mean: we allready have the TB-3)No new maps that haven't allready been released, not really much news that we didn't allready know.

Well enough of my pityful whining, it's great that you continue to expand the greatest flight sim ever!

and there will be clipped wing versions of the mkIX too.

Why will there be 2 LF Vb's? They both are obviously clipped, both have the b wing, and both the 'low-blown' Merlin 50? It says "Spitfire LFVb, 1944 clipped wings" as if that sets it apart from the LF Vb 1943, but LF implies clipped wings anyway.

thats where ur wrong. LF DOESNT imply clipped wing it implys teh egine type. clipped only was an addition to the LF spits, wasnt standard.

so ur answer is we have a normal winged LF and a clipped wing.

we will be gettign the same for the mkIX, one clipped LF version and one nonclipped version.

because most of the modeling was done by third party volunteers, who are free to model whatever they want. Gib wanted to do a P-80, so he did one, someone did a cockpit, and gib put a flight model together for it. Gib and the cockpit guy never got paid, we are lucky to have it.

Thanks for the information mates! The Addon won't be released up here in Canada until Friday (EB Games anyway).

I am still really looking forward to the addon, and yet I do agree with the comments concerning the lack of off-line material which is important to me, though I tend to spend most of my time online with my squad.

With regards to online, I am really looking forward to the online dynamic campaign which will really enhance our squad play. Great to see Oleg further investing in online.

More planes are great, yet my favourite remains the Yak-3. Would have liked a flyable B-17 but knew that wasn't coming for some time of course. More maps would have been welcomed.

Overall, still very excited notwithstanding. Any further word regarding AI improvements, and general game improvements with regards to graphics/framerate and such matters.

There are also new loadouts and ordinance. Stuka Ds can carry SC1000 and SC1800, among others. There's some new LW bomb called PC, not sure what it does, but it doesn't seem to have as much explosive power as SC. He111s have better loadout options now.

I was impressed that the P-63 can carry 3 500lbs bombs or 3 250 VAPs--it's a hard-hitting ground attack plane as well as a great fighter.

The Mistel produces a massive explosion, as you would expect.

hi hoepner,

really higher than il2-fb?

the system-specs differ only in the "recommended" amount of ram and grafics-memory, and i suppose, that this also values for il2-fb meanwhile due to more sounds, more maps, more planes and skins...

@ le_deepo: Not fully correct. The Ace Pack brings along not only new planes $ stuff, it also has overall imrpoved graphics, for example the water can be set to a very high quality, which naturally requires a more powerful computer.
Also, for those who hadn't the option yet, some detail options can be moved to "perfect" now.

"Another Question: How do the different models of Spitfire listed differ from each other?"
The basic diffences of the Spitfires in the AEP are the RR Merlin engine types, between the MKV's. The other, is that you have either clipped wing or eliptical. The clipped wing version rolls faster! This shows to good effect in the game!
I'm a Brit here in the US, so I'm loving having the Spitfires at last! All you Spitfire fans out there are in for a treat! ALL I WANT NOW IS A MKIX! PLEASE!!! And then a griffon powered MKXIV!

For all you P-51 fans out there and who don't have the AEP yet: The cockpit modelling for the P-51B/C is truelly superbe and very accurate. It's interesting that in the AEP, they give the B model the "birdcage" canopy and the C model gets the British added Malcombe Hood. Of course, during the war, both B and C were retro fitted with the canopy. But I'm not complaining!
A little note to the modellers: The magneto switch is always in the off position and doesn't move to "both" when the engine is running. Not worth worrying about, I guess?

Maybe a stupid question, but will it be possible to connect to someone and play multiplayer if that person doesn´t have Ace Expansion but I have?

I was especially looking forward to the Mistel combination, but I was rather disappointed to learn that the AI for it is very limited. I understand the reasons behind it, but it makes a co-ordinated attack with several Mistels impossible. AI Mistels only can be used to draw the attention of enemy fighters and AA. On the other hand I must say that the Ho 229 and Ta 152 are superb.

OK I give up. How do I start the engine of the Me163? It just sits on the runway with the message 'Engine Disabled'.

Wouldn't an Italian campaign have been a good idea? Ah well, maybe in the next patch ....

Ace Expansion Features

P38 = lightnin = Flying Hog with week weapons

P51 = gives new meaning to zoom & boom literaly

ki84 = I dont even have to say anything you all know http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Instalation process of AEP will mind numbing to say the least

p38 should be flying more like a 109Z & the Z more like the p38 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Man stop reading my thoughts and POST THIS TO THE OLEG'S READY ROOM. The Do-335 is the best piston-engined secret weapon. The perfect add-on for an ACE patch!!
