Excuse my ignorance but...

Can this be used to host games only for LAN?

Can one host Co-op games against AI?

WHY NO documention on how to use/set this up?

Is a PIII 933,512meg capable of running a dedicated server?

Thanks

The dedicated server can be used for a lan.Just join via the internal ip.Remember you can not fly from a machine running the server.

yes a pII 933/512 is fine.

Erm... BUMP!

I might be finding myself with a spare old PC soon, and know zilch about servers, hosting and networking: can anyone point out a good online guide?

Other question: how do you host through a firewall? Is it possible? (As I have said I know nothing about networking, just as well I'm a fast learner...).

bump

Maybe CrazyIvan or someone can post some easy instructions for new server hosts.

Salute!

Regards to LAN only

I'm typing in the IP address of the machine using the dedicated server software but keep getting

RegServerSend_Connect Failed

Also I get the impression by the UI that your limited to just a generic dogfight game and not specific user created maps/missions involving co-op gameplayhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Hi,
host a IL2 server behind a firewall is not a problem, at first you have to know the port your server is working on (default 21000), secondare check that your server is properly connected to internet and third you have to go on the firewall machine and redirect the UDP port 21000 (or the port you have changed on the server) to the machine on the internal network. When you have done this you can tell your friends to connect to the public IP address of the firewall machine. A good troubleshooting procedure is to connect on the LAN at firts so you are shure that your server is up and running on the right port, and secondary to nat (redirect) that port to the right inside address. Rmember that the protocol is UDP.

Bye

MadZ

P.S. : someone of you is hosting coop mission against AI??

Thank you Madz!

I am new to having an ADSL line so there's plenty of stuff I still haven't figured out, but when I have two PC's I will definitely give it a go.

You could say the dedicated server is IL-2 FB without the graphics interface... If you run a ded on your rig - you CAN'T play on that rig - it ONLY serves as the host - but hosting is a whole lot better (less computations I guess) - if or not it will run on your rig OK depends on a lot of stuff - how many players, what netspeed, how many object on how big a map etc. - you will just have to try...

Some info on dedicated can be found here:
