Two completely different Tupolev Airliners crashed today after leaving the same (Moscow) airport at, and they both crashed at the same time, but not into each other, and they were miles away from each other. Kind of an odd coincidence....

I believe 36 people were lost on one plane and 40 were lost on another. I offer my condolences for the families of this horrible tragedy.

Russian Passenger Plane Crashes, One Is Missing, Interfax Says

Aug. 25 (Bloomberg) -- A Russian passenger airplane crashed and another is missing on flights from Moscow, Interfax reported, citing the Russian Emergencies Ministry. The aircraft were carrying 86 people, the news agency said.

Radio contact with the aircraft was lost at 10:59 p.m. Moscow time, Interfax cited Marina Ryklina, a ministry spokeswoman as saying. The tail and parts of a TU-134 aircraft of Volga-Aviaexpress were found early today in the Tula region about 180 kilometers (112 miles) south of Moscow, Interfax said. The plane, carrying 34 passengers and eight crew, was on its way to Volgograd. Details of casualties aren't known, it said.

Contact was lost with a TU-154 plane of OAS Sibir with 44 people on board near the southern city of Rostov-on-Don while flying to the Black Sea resort of Sochi, Ryklina said, according to Interfax. The plane hasn't been found, it said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Federal Security Service to investigate the incidents, Interfax cited Alexei Gromov, a spokesman, as saying. Yevegeniy Khorishko, a spokesman for the Russian embassy in Washington, said in a telephone interview Russian reports said the aircraft left Moscow's Demodedovo airport within three minutes of each other.

I don't think it was related to a terrorist act.
I believe that few terorists dare to operate in Russia.Of course, there will be always Tchechen ones but this is another story.
You see what happened with th e hostage takers in that theatre.Russians do not negotiate with terrorists. They just say: you have 5 hours to give up.And that's it. After that we'll storm the place.Scarry, escpecially from a hostage POV , but most effective if you ask me.

May God bless the souls of the fallen ones.

A terrible aviation disaster http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

All I can think is at least the aircraft were carrying no where near their full passenger capacity.... alot more people could have been touched by this tragedy....

Just listened to PM on Radio 4..... the Russians say there is currently no evidence of terrorist action and they are treating it as "a violation of civil air authority regulations".

Make of that what you will http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

On Pravda web site, it is mentioned that they are looking into the fact that it could be something to do with the fuel. Both planes where fuelled from the same fuel truck it has reported. I think that Pravda believes it is to do with terrorists as there is a report that the crash is being whitewashed as a accident.

Respect to the poor people on the two planes, and to the family's of the people lost. I hope the Russians find out the truth about what has happened to the two planes soon! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

For who not agree with terrorist attack and think its disaster,i have to say this.Recently CNN or another news channel reported that about 30 minutes or so(not sure exact)there was explosion near domodedovo airport to drag attention from airport. As for speculations that it was because of the fuel ,the specialists confirmed those planes simply couldn't expole because of it.

So like AKD9779 said
May those who were lost in this tragedy rest in peace.

What a tragic situation.

How can people be so desparate and/or ignorant as to willingly and eagerly destroy the lives of so many innocent people because they believe it is the "righteous" thing to do for their own cause?

Frankly, it's stupid. Stupidity of that magnitude should be painful.

My deepest sympathies go out to those aboard each plane and their families and loved ones.

Have the Russians authorities confirmed that this was a terrorist act yet? I heard on US radio today that the flight recorders were found to have been turned off prior to the disaster taking place. It is rapidly becoming clear that these crashes were not inadvertent.

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Günther Rall

Ivan,

I can assure you we are all very touched by what happened and we want to express simpathy to the families involved.

But if it is an act of terrorism - and I'm afraid that is extremely probable - denouncing it does not look like "political BS" to me.

May justice find those who are responsible.

S!
