View Full Version : Give an old man a break ...

For now I have a burning online goal. To fly a TB-3 to an enemy base, drop the bombs and fly home. After many attempts, I finally made it almost half way to the blue base on TX-Zen's server and a team-killer [known on this particular server as "@sshat"] made several lame passes which eventully sent the beast into the trees.

Regardless, give an old man a break, any protective cover would be appreciated. Vodka's on me back at the base.

Whenever a bomberpilot asks for cover ill try to assist (if im not tied up in a fight already). And im sure that goes for many others too, by calling out position coordinates at intervalls on teamchat you can help the escort to find you more easily. Good luck!

Used to be back in the day people would gladly lend a hand to cover the bombers on their way to the target, thats one thing that made the server such a great place to fly.

These days it seems the crowd is somewhat different, even with scripted objectives it appears that most people just want to furball and the objectives are not really taken seriously.

I intend to try and get more stick time in on the server and be there first hand to encourage people to help each other out like they used to. Meantime my only constructive suggestion is to keep harping on your teammates for help...sooner or later hopefully someone will lend a hand.

Sorry to hear that OC, I'll see what I can do.

If I'm in my P-51 or a Yak-9U I'll be certain to lend some cover to our bomber formations. I've run forward sweeps and direct cover for many of the bomber pilots on TX.

See if you can get a fellow TB-3...dual defensive fire always help.

I use to fly the bombers alot online, ai would always get at least 1 kill now its like your flying with crosseyed gunners and makes flying the he111 and tb3 pretty useless becuase you really have no chance even with 2-3 escorts, even a group of 5 tb3s can all get shotdown by 1 g2, same with the he111s 1 hit nomore wing.

To me its not very fun at all and you dont see many people at all flying them as much as you use to. Even the stuka people just take a 109 with a bomb. But the il2 still gets alot of use because of the massive ammount of damage they can take.

also 1 aaa gun will shoot down a whole flight of 5 tb3s because they move so slow,

I love escorting bombers - If I see ya and I'm on the right side - I'm there - if I'm on the wrong side I'll switch or at least stay off your case.

You will never survive on a server with external views. People will cycle through the views until they see exactly where you are, then hunt you down. Even if you shoot them down, they will likely have time to take-off and do it again.

thats was version 1.1 ak davis and if you remembered things it was the hurricane mk1 running out of ammo on the stukas http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hurricane .303s are slighty improved on the mk1 but still incrediably weak compaired to what they should be. Any brit vet will tell you that, join some wwii historical society forums akd and you can talk to some of them, lancaster tailgunner 4 .303 able to down bf110s and 109s and short 2 second bursts, any burst over 2 seconds would cause the gunbarrels to overheat and jam.

Thanks for all the advice. Have decided to keep trying on weeknights at 11 PM Pacific Standard Time (I believe that's 7 AM GMT).

Can anyone tell me if there's a download to enable flying the B-17s or do you just select one and fly it externally?

FOUR things would FIX and IMPROVE bomber flying online

1) Add/Adj code that when a bomber gets RAMMED no damage is done to the bomber and kills the RAMMER and keeps him from taking off for a server setting amount of time (5 mins+).

2) Add/Adj code to fix the auto-level by allow the user to STILL make rudder movments to adj the bomb run while looking through the bomb sight. Currently you have to turn off auto-level to use the rudders... And if you dont exit the bomb sight position you can EASILY loose control, in that you can not tell how much the plane is banking, climbing, etc.. On that note, even when auto-level is ON id does NOT keep the bomber level.. it still climbs/decends so, make auto-level a bit more auto-pilot where the ai will keep the bomber at alt and allow you in the bomb sight positon to adj the heading via the rudders.

3) Add/Adj code that enables bombers to start in-the-air while the fighters still start on-the-gnd.

4) Add/Adj code that enables external views for bombers and only bombers... or if externals are enabled an option that does not allow people to toggle through and locate the bombers..

Old_Yank here lol,

I too like to fly bombers and complete my sorte. Try flying on my scripted server if I'm online over at hyper lobby. I just started this. My server will have an emphasis on ground attack. I am running full difficulty settings with the exceptions of limited friendly icons, speed bar and player map route enabled.

If you form up with several bombers which I usually do, your chances will be better. Also, for cripe sakes, fly on a full real server with limited icons. You stand a much better chance this way if the enemy can't see your tag from a long distance.

Also, if externals are enabled you don't stand a chance because players use this to locate your aircraft in relation to the terrain below by viewing your aircraft via Ctrl+F2 enemy view. This is a highly unfair method of quickly locating enemy planes in my opinion. Of course this could not be done in real life.

Best Of Luck and hope to see you in the air sometime.

P.S. I can't wait till we get that B-25 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ditto! and thanks for the invitation. Used to love flying the heavies in CFS2 but the possibilities here are worth exploring. Will give your server a try also.

I just hate it these days when every enemy immediatly goes for the bomber no matter how many fighters are around...they just want an easy kill http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Hey Canuk, If you like flying TB-3s you should join me Sunday (:FI:SnoopBaron server). I have a good mission for which the central focus is supporting bombers in making their bomb runs. I call it Bombers, Escorts, and Interceptors. It trys to force each side to fly all three roles and work as a team to win. It works pretty well. I had a riot this past Sunday bombing the heck out of the other team with two other TB-3s from our squad.

Don't know about that. I fly with some guys online who would fly nothing but Stuka missions if they could. Of course that's VEF not some DF room or scripted server. In DF rooms you're rarely going to get ppl willing to cover. And not much more in scripted servers. If you had to re-enter a scripted server, that is if when you get shot down you're done a la Coops or online wars, THEN you'll see missions take on a definate structure and ppl teaming up to help each other.
