View Full Version : Simple fix to stop team killers...

Speaking with Mysticpuma this morning, he suggested this idea to stop the team killers that pop up from time to time on DF servers.

A simple server side setting that will kick/ban a player/IP address when someone tk's more than twice.
So if someone gets a score of -800+ they get kicked.

One tk could be deemed as an accident, two maybe, but three or more tk's would indicate that somebody is team killing and they don't belong on the server. They then get kicked...

What'dya think...?

I think some of the server scripts can do this now. Not sure if many admins have them enabled.

One of the TX guys mentioned something about that when I mentioned to them that we had this guy who, obviously totally unaware, barely able to fly or shoot, spent about an hour wrecking the Red teams game by shooting at bombers and people attempting to gain altitude away from our base. I and a few others ended up with a score of -1450 by blasting him before he could even turn his engine on. At least it let the rest of the game go smoothly. At one point Blue team came over and helped us as well shooting only at him. He musta been pretty confused http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Whichever, it is/would be a great feature.

I have yet to run into many griefers online (I'm sure they probably congregate on arcade servers, so that explains why I never seem to see 'em), but I'm sure they can ruin many an online experience. They deserve to just be kicked and banned, no explanation given (or necessary).

All it takes is a couple of morons who never look when taxiing around the airstrip to cause someone else to have a neg -800 score.

Ban them for that?

Don't run servers without admins.

Good point...or a random spawn accident where one aircraft is on the taxiway when someone else spawns infront with 0 reaction time possible.

A solution to spawn deaths would be no collisions for those on the same team, on the ground, and in the spawn area. Also, someone mentioned in another thread that an option to allow external views until you got off the ground. I would take that a little further and add a 30 second time limit to it.

You could always let the server admin know about a tk'er.

Can admins ban certain IP's or HL names?

Sometimes our squad likes to have a df from the same base in P11's which gives us all - points.
the more -points =the winner. Its a good laugh, but wouldnt be playable if a tker solution was added.

This won't work. If some moron tries to purposely ram you (on the ground or in the air), you're the one that accrues the negative score, not him.

So instead of shooting you, a team-killer will just ram you three times and boot you in the process.

"Killshooter" is the best solution for a DF arena community.

While it's not even remotely realistic (Killshooter = if you hit a friendly, YOU take your own damage, not the plane you hit), it solves that particular problem, and gives incentive for players to NOT fire at friendlies even by accident. If the only "cost" is that friendly fire accidents don't happen in the sim, I'd say it was a "realism abstraction" that was well worth it, all things considered.

Put in realism panel "friendly fire on/off" so it'll be an interim fix for the stupid wingmen AI who keeps shooting me down as well.
