Hows it goin' everyone!? My name is Harrison and This is where I will be posting my Lawbringer Cosplay Build.

I've made some cosplay pieces in the past, but never a full costume. So everyone, please give your support and help motivate me for this build!

I will be building in stages to help keep myself organized. The stages are as follows.

1. Research and Measurements (although this step will be repeated many times)
2. Torso / Breastplate -Done-
3. Shoulders
4. Skirt / thigh parts
5. legs / Boots
6. Arms / hands
7. The Helmet
8. Fabric and other non-hard parts
9. Detail pass
10. Painting and Finishing (The funnest part hah)

Since the guy was first announced back on 1/18/2017 there is a supreme lack of reference pictures. But i'll post the ones I have found along with some sketches about my assumptions on how things look. If you guys have any good references please send them my way! Hopefully Ubisoft will make my life simple and easy by making a reference guide for the Lawbringer just as they have made for the other characters. Anyhow, let's get to the pictures!

These pictures are screencaps that i've taken. SCREENSHOTS (http://imgur.com/a/kzjJK)

My goal is to upload atleast once a day. So make sure to follow this thread!

IF YOU GUYS HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR SUGGESTIONS POST THEM!!

More to come, Stay tuned!

-----UPDATE SECTION----

So ill put the most recent picture here for you guys who believe in TL;DR

Can't wait to see the progress and final product! Cosplay rules. I'm actually working on a Warden Knight build, myself. I hope to have it ready by the 13th for a midnight release party! I'd like to post pictures too! Keep it coming!!!

Thank you Chark19! I would love to see your build as well! May we both make it in time!!!

Progress so far:
I'm still staring at references over and over again. Right now I'm working on re-creating the basic design for the chest piece. Ill post a pic in a bit containing my sketches.

HARR18

Alright! some progress:

http://i.imgur.com/GU34D1i.jpg

So this is what I can gather of what the main segments of the armor look like. The sketch on the bottom right is what I think the template will look like for half of the front chest piece.

HARR18

More Progress!!

http://i.imgur.com/9D0kReT.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/4xXLr5D.jpg

So I made a template and cut out and glued two torso pieces. My template was too long in a few places but this shouldn't pose too big of a problem. I've left enough extra to trim down on parts to make it fit more. More specifically im talking about the top, Bottom, and arm holes.

More to come, Stay tuned!

p.s.

If you guys have any comments please let me know! even if its "looks like s***t"

So i've been taking a break and looking up more For Honnor videos on youtube, and I've found more instances of the lawbringer.
Links to the videos:

Lots of good angles in this one.

I realized that the co-antagonist guy has Lawbringer armor. From this I assume that his more decorated armor will be unlockable. Even though I really like how decorated it is, I'm not confidant that I can replicate that detail. Afterall I'm working on a budget and don't have more advanced tools. :(

That looks like a fine chest plate, tbh.
Personally, I think the helmet and pauldrons are the best part of the Lawbringers set. (And those emote animations were awesome! The "giddy up" dance at :38 was my favorite. )

Get crackin' Harrison!

Hi there HARR18,

I am willing to forge a real iron version of the lawbringer's armor and i am wondering if you could keep some of your pateron for me or if we could get in contact to get some information. It would be nice ;) .

HARR18
02-01-2017, 08:19 AM
samwil0 Dang, Yeah ill keep my patterns as I go! That would be crazy awesome to see happen. Not gonna lie that makes me way more motivated to get this thing done! Could you send me a picture of your shop?

Chark19 Thanks man! I'm excited to build the shoulder pieces. I want to be THE HUGE.

After some shaping with a heat gun; I have to say that the silhouette looks spot on so far.

UPDATE:

Back piece pattern designed. cut out. and put together.
I figured that I'll put the torso together in 6 steps. Front panel, back panel, over-the-shoulders, front guard, back guard, (and the bottom trim). I'm still not sure if I want to put the chain/medallion decoration on. I feel like a real chain would be too heavy for the foam. And a foam chain would work, but seems too tedious at the moment. But anyway, here are the pictures.

http://i.imgur.com/bSnbsTt.jpg

So if you ever work with foam, use this stuff. It's like tinder and a hot date for foam.

You know what is funny? I don't realy have a shop. I just do armor in my garage but i have acces to some tool from a ironworkshop where my dad is working. If you whant to see some of my work you can look at my profil picture. It is the project that i am curently working on. (Sorry if i have a bad english this is not my main langage)

For the chain you could probably use a plastic chain

HARR18
02-02-2017, 02:37 AM
samwil0 That armor in your pic looks sick!! That idea of a plastic chain is crazy... so crazy that it just might work!!! Thank you!

UbiNoty *motivation intensifies* Thank you! I'll keep doing my best. By the way, is there any way that I could inspire you guys to come out with a reference guide to the lawbringer? My life would be simplified so much.

Progress:

I've measured out how long the shoulder straps need to be. Then have made some makeshift ones. Its easy to tell that they need to be more "Meaty"

PROGRESS:

Alright so I made a proper pattern for the shoulder parts. They fill in a lot of the gaps now and its looking a lot better! The next thing I need to do is make the shoulders slant to the sides. I think the easiest way to do that is to cut tactically placed notches in the straps then glue the spaces together to make it slant downward toward my shoulders. Feels good man.

If you are wondering, That mannequin was made by wearing a white t-shirt, having a friend who will gladly Duck Tape the crap out of you, then have someone free you by cutting along the back of it, taping it back up, then use cardboard as a base/fill in the holes, Then stuff it with pillow stuffing. Aka. the poor man's mannequin. Aka. I don't care if that sentence was a huge run-on sentence.

HARR18

Mini Progress:

So the shoulder straps are now more slanted... well kinda... I'm gonna give this a solid GOOD ENOUGH.

So the small pieces are for small adjustments to the waist part. I also added buckles... Just glued them on... nothing fancy...

Definitely looks good. The chestplate seems to have a decent shape ,clean and pro. Keep on good work. But may i ask you a question ? Where does the bottom of the chestplate end ? Before or after your belly button ? If it does end after it may obstruct your movement. Just sayng. Still looking good though.

Thank you!!! I appreciate it!
I have been keeping in mind mobility. In my templates and design so far, I have made the arm holes bigger for better mobility. Both in the front and the back. In the screenshots I've seen, the lawbringer chestplate is super wide on the chest and goes from armpit to armpit. This is a huge problem for actual mobility. For honor can get away with this because it has magical video game physics where arms phaze into the armor freely. And for the torso, I have it stop just above my hip bones. In my experience this does stop you from bending over from the waist, but not necessarily stop you from moving comfortably.

Me with the plate on and no shirt. (also I got a haircut)

Have you decided the color and pattern yet? Because this V V V Looks amazing.

Most impressive, sir!

HARR18
02-04-2017, 10:35 AM
Chark19 I have thought about that! I'm way down for that color scheme. I'm not 100% on how i'm going to paint it just yet. Definitely leaning toward an attacker scheme. Gotta love those reds!

PROGRESS TIME:

So I hate this piece.... it looks so badass yet so complicated to reverse engineer. In the picture below is the template for it. See how the midlines on each side don't line up? and not only that, but there is one slightly curved side and a straight side. At least several angles involved are 90`....

http://i.imgur.com/u9rKjA1.jpg

Being the poor person that I am, I used the same beer box that was for getting over the emotional curve of figuring this out, as is now used for figuring out the damn shape. Lookin good if you ask me.

http://i.imgur.com/Iintqrt.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/X526P6t.jpg

Next i'll use the template and attach the actual piece.

So i've been thinking about what you said... I think that the torso piece may be too long. By a few inches atleast. I just might fix this. Depending on how motivated I am.

AvennHoltzer I'm using EVA foam. Most places that sell tools will sell this foam. I've found some at walmart in the workout equipment section before. As you've seen in some earlier pictures of this build, there are some relatively still intact squares that I have my designs drawn on. There is an inexhaustible supply of resources online that you can use to learn how to work with the stuff and different techniques. The EVA foam floor mats are super good for cosplay armor. Its cheap, paintable, flexible, cuttable, sandable (usually more with powered tools than by hand), lightweight, and durable. Even the official cosplay of ubisoft used this stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmSnKx2jELg

SirAHarris Thank You for the additional image! every bit helps!! The armor permutations look way good for the lawbringer. I'm thinking about making the other armor permutations afterwards. But that's definitely AFTER this basic armor lol.

PennState67 Thanks man!

Samwill0 Yes I am going to do the shoulders :p That video has some good shots of the arms and legs! Will definitely help! 10/10

Hey man, just wanted to say this thing is coming out awesome and thank you so much for posting this. I did a similar cosplay a few years back (a barrel torso, I made the mistake of too small arm holes and too long of a chestplate, so mobility/breathing was a nightmare.) I'm planning my Gencon stuff this year and think I might tackle a Lawbringer, so this is HUGE for providing reference and notable mistakes/pitfalls I could bump into.

Looking forward to following in your footsteps! Will have to get my own thread going, this is hugely motivating. Keep up the amazing work.

Also I totally think the pants/shoes can pulled off with a good pair of stonewashed jeans and plate covered tennis shoes for comfort haha.

UPDATE:

Got the Trim done for the shoulders. Ill strap them to the top of the torso for maximum mobility. This is in contrast to the pieces, in some of the pictures, that are attached directly to my arm. I'm still thinking if I also want to create some sort of strap or velcro for the shoulders to attach to my arm too. So far I enjoy how gravity and the single strap allows them to flow with my arm. These pictures were taken before I fully heat shaped them. So they fit even better than the pictures. (They are shaped in the picture of them by themselves near my helmet crappy helmet)

Shadowclaimer Thanks man! I appreciate it. A word of caution. The templates that i've shown are not the actual shape as they are on the build. I trimmed up a bunch of the pieces after the fact and haven't translated those changes back onto the templates.

Ezio_Biene I appreciate it!

samwil0 I will go back eventually and make my templates accurate to how the pieces actually are. That should make your life more simple.

UbiNoty Thank you! I hope to make this show-off worthy for you guys.

PMKisj

Chark19 Unorthodox. but. THANKS!

PMShadowclaimer I appreciate it man! Yeah, I've been trying to keep in mind that videogames use magic physics where one huge bulky armor piece can phase into another. What has been helping me is going and doing research on actual armor throughout history and seeing what proportions they use.

Check out 'Battle of the Nations" in a google search and you can get a lot of good references and ideas on how to design armor to a more practical useage.

Also I totally think the pants/shoes can pulled off with a good pair of stonewashed jeans and plate covered tennis shoes for comfort haha.

I totally Agree with you, I think i'll use boots with mine. The under chainmail has got me thinking to use something like THIS (http://www.partycity.com/product/adult+chainmail+tunic+and+cowl.do?kwid=adult%20cha inmail%20tunic%20and%20cowl&qcid=&ref=ci&extcmp=pla%7CGoogle&gclid=COOW7eLxmtICFQRrfgodR_QGww)

UPDATE: I'm sick now in addition to the two jobs... but some progress!

I Just used some bits of foam, 1in strapping (I got mine at walmart for like 2 dollars in the camping section), and heavy duty velcro to make these straps.

I put on a black hoodie and a pair of stone washed jeans to see how the under colors would kinda look.

The plan is for all of the skirt pieces to be held up by a belt. The shoulders are connected to the chest. The arm pieces held in place with straps and helped by velcro to the chainmail under armour stuff. Then the knee, shin, and boot parts are to be held up by some knee pads.

May I propose ''Royal armories collection'' if you want to find nice and historically accurate armor (site include picture and in deep description) https://collections.royalarmouries.org/#/objects
You could also look on http://www.metmuseum.org/ and http://www.wallacecollection.org/

Also i have found an historic armor that could look like the lawbringer armor (Field Armor of King Henry VIII of England) http://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/23936

Update: I've hit a wall....

So, I didn't think that the chainmail part of this cosplay would provide so much trouble....

The problem is that I don't want to spend a bunch of money on buying some pre made chainmail. and I don't want to spend three months making the chainmail myself. :(

Also sorry for the lack of updates everyone!!! I want to try and make the updates substantial to not waste your time.

At any rate, here is what I have been working on!

If you don't mind could you upload the templates as like a pdf or something like that? That would be awesome and help me with my lawbringer cosplay because this armour is really good.

HEY GUYS!!! LONG TIME NO TALK!! I had to take a break from my armor for a bit. I was getting Extremely burnt out. I'M SORRY FOR THE WAIT! Ill be picking the armor back up and you guys will see progress pics again this week!

To all of you guys who want templates my only issue is that they are BIG. At Least for the main chest pieces. If you guys have any ideas on how I can actually make them available for you please let me know! I will upload all of my templates for free and for anyone to modify and use. After all they are based off of Ubisoft's game and I love helping other creators to make things.

THANK YOU GUYS FOR STILL WATCHING AFTER ALL THIS TIME! I LOVE YOU ALL AND WILL BE POSTING SOON!

I'm glad to be working on this awesome armor once again. I have to give credit where credit is due. Thank you to Regrettable Props from youtube for the inspiration on how to build this guy. With out his video on building the helmet I would not have had this ready so soon. I used his general approach in terms of how many pieces to build and in what order. Because my head is bigger than his and I have my own style in building, I re-designed each template from scratch to fit my needs. Here is the video I used and thank you to this awesome dude for his builds.

So yeah on the topic of templates you can probably get them scanned and uploaded at your local photo place and then upload them at full scale to here.

I'm pretty amazed by you, making your own templates using limited reference pictures, scaling them to size and making it in-game accurate is pretty great. I unfortunately lack the skill to do that and my first attempt went in flames along with the money I spent on materials and such. I am really hesitant to free hand this, do you think you could share the templates with us? Also I look forward to new updates, you're killing it man!

OOF I should read through a post before I ask a question because its probably been asked and answered before. But I do look forward to your build!

]1.) You could take a straight on picture of every template, copy and paste the pictures on imgur (Or some other places we can see it) and we can take the image and adjust the scale relative to our size.

*Plenty of tutorials on how to scale up or down templates and if you need help with this you can ask*

2.) You could use a program called Pepakura Designer 3 and post the templates there, here's an example

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/37/c8/c3/37c8c3f226a5f7a5e74bd1c3f46a024f.jpg

Pepakura Designer 3 is a completely free downloadable program that lots of people use, I come from 405th.com a costuming community that basically worships Pepakura Designer 3 because that's how we share our templates for helmets, full costumes, swords and such. I encourage those who want to build a set of halo armor to make an account there and check out their "armory."

I warn you though, Pepakura Designer 3 is super difficult

Hey guys long time no post. I've mostly stopped playing For Honor. This has made my progress on this project grind to a halt. That being said. I've decided to pass on what I have done to you guys. Here is a dump of templates!

This first post will be the templates I designed for the helmet.

And here is most of the templates for the chest piece. I'm embarrassed to say that I have misplaced some of my templates in the last 9 months since I started.
If I find anymore of my templates I'll take pictures of them like this so you guys can reverse engineer them!

And how they mostly relate to each other. (also this image has some of the other templates visible. perhaps you guys who are savvy can figure out their measurements based off of the images above)

Hey everyone!

I may finish this armor... I may not... I'm not too sure on what ill do with it. If any of you guys feel like you could take my work and finish the build please talk to me. I just may be willing to make arrangements to send you what I have completed so far. One of my main motives for making this armor was to see the bad *** Lawbringer come to life. I still would love to see that. I probably will not post progress on this thread for some time to come. Creating armor is hard, time consuming, and doesn't make any money. Its been even harder since I've had to custom design every template for every part. I will say that I have learned a lot from building this armor so far. And it would be a lie if I said it wasn't fun. And who knows. Perhaps i'll get my original motivation again and finish this. or perhaps someone else will. Thank you Ubisoft for making an awesome game, kick *** characters, and letting me embark on recreating one of them in real life. Finally, thank you all for watching over these last months.

I love you all.

Harrison~

It can be tough. A really good cosplay takes a lot more resources, money, time and dedication than most people have to give while still taking on the responsibilities of everyday life. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck!

Hey Harrison.

I started my Lawbringer project around the same time as yours. After working on it for about four months on and off, it was ready for a con. I had a great time building it, and a great time showing it to people. I completely understand what you mean when you say it's hard, and you're doing work for no money. But for me, it was worth it in the end. I hope you pick it up again in the future, but if not, thank you for the journey. *spams pony emote* https://m.imgur.com/a/l343e
