I know the design from the outset for IL-2 was to replicate the lower altitude operations of the eastern front. However, with the P-51,47,38 all designed to operate at much higher altitudes and with the Pacific sim using the same 'engine' as FB/ AEP is it possible for the patch to address these issues, i.e. the P- 51 is suppose to get faster as its altitude increases.

no, you'd have to rewrite the physics engine i.e. make a new game....

in BoB we'll have a new one http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

In a misguided attempt to stave off the 'ya, hi altitude is wack' crowd; Oleg has stated numerous times that Il-2/FB is very realistic up to 10000m (32000feet+). Past that altitude, it does not turn into antigravity arcade warp festival (as some have suggested in the past), it merely continues to use the 10000m model, meaning the condidtions at 11000m are incorrectly the same as it is at 10000m.

The high altitude model is very reasonably done in FB;it takes into account many factors never before seen in a sim, and certainly the P-51 'goes faster' the higher it gets.

Are some features missing? Of course, and everyone should feel free to ask for specific things they know are incorrect, but at the same time they should realize that what we currently have is quite well done, as good or better than anything to date.

If you're looking at the indicated airspeed gauge it doesn't look like you're going faster because the air is thinner up high, but if you look at the ground/true speed gauge you'll see that you can really move up there.

Until we have high altitude bombers to escort over a target there is no real need to fly that high anyway. The highest i ahve ever fought anyone was 7000 meters. It takes forever to get there and there really isn't much of a need to do that.

true - there is no need to go up high, but sometimes it is fun to get up high to get the most out of fighters like P47 or Ta152. The Jug up high is superb and more than a match for most, even if questions remain over its roll rate. And if you go up high to intercept bombers (albeit more of an offline concern), you soon see why the limited range of 109 is such a pain in the b*m - takes a quarter tank just to get up there. Good immersion factor.

Horses for courses really.

Most of our fights begin at around 9000M http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The longest ever engagement was with P-39N vs 109 G-2 (with tanks) that lasted over an hour. The high-alt FM in FB is all over the place, many strange anomolies - but it is better than it was in IL-2.

Looking forward to an improvement in BoB though as I really enjoy a long high-alt fight http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I'd like Oleg to lower the contrail level and high cloud level to 6000m cos I have difficulty making loaded AI bombers stay above the 7km fog. Must have contrails for B~17s and stuff.

I like the view from up on high. The contrails swirlling around, especially over a winter map at dawn ,with the glow from the sunrise reflecting on the bare metal finish. It makes it awfully hard to quit.
