View Full Version : Couple of suggestions regards to better quality (reality?) of the game

Some may or may not agree with me, but i played this game for a long time and think some few things would make this great game even greater, so:

1. there should be available in the offline inflight menu (key->TAB) an option to navigate to your wing commander, like one where you can ask ground control to navigate to home base.

2. there should (MUST!) be CALLSIGN... when someone scream in radio --fighter 12 o clock--you can't tell from which position is that 12 o clock. this way you will know that.

3. why there's no option to end/finish career when killed in some mission? of course there should be 'REFLY' option but still...

4. if AI pilot run out of fuel or suffer engine stop/failure they say 'I'm hit' and slowly descend to earth without attempt to bail out even if they are above forrest and that way they certainly went to death.

5. it would be pretty nice though, if there is confirmed/unconfirmed kills in-game. i found myself many times landing on my home airfield when i see 'enemy A/C destroyed'? i think better way is this: if you shoot enemy A/C and he goes down 10-15km from your friendly lines (or friendly A/C's) that should be an unconfirmed kill. that's only a suggestion.

all above is regarding offline flying... and in my opinion does not require much problem to oleg&co. (condsidering their geniality http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) to make these or similar changes to game.

I agree with some of your points and not others....... but it would also be good to be able to at least tell the AI to stop shooting you..... or to tell a wingy Im coming!! Actually Oleg answered a post I made about that about a year and a half ago and he said that something like that.... more detailed AI commands.... would be implemented in the next sim. This was way before BoB was even announced. We just knew that something was coming down the pike.

I think a small change which would make a big difference to the feeling of reality within the game, would be to be able to set your map with the route marked on it, but not a moving icon of your plane. I tend to run the game at practical full realism but always thought it a bit strange that you can't have your proposed route marked on your map.

Here's my list (these little details would probably be considered excessively pickey by many, but for me I'm keying in on the word -> Reality):

1.Unrealistic propeller windmilling (even at low airspeeds) associated with engine idle or engine Off settings) I would be great to see a slowly turning prop in flight at idle throttle setting, along with an idle engine sound or see a stopped prop while attempting a dead-stick landing !

2. Excessive and undamped "wing rocking" while taxing. While I'm grateful this effect was attemped, implementation of undamped rocking seems very scripted and continues on and on until the plane completely stops.

3. When shutting the engine down while parked, the propeller instantly stops, instead of spinning down in a realistic manner for a few revs. This seems to be a recent "reality take-away" which showed up in AEP, but wasn't present in earlier versions through v1.22.

Overall, however, I think that a lot of reality issues were vastly improved in AEP (propeller sound in flight, AI behavoir, FM, damage models, etc. This is absolutely the finest aviation sim ever produced and Oleg & CO. are gods !!

map route is the biggest minus when flying full real career... i agree on that. for me it's the biggest minus in the game overall http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
when i break from formation chasing another A/C few moments later i'm completely lost and got annoying messages 'where are you! get back into formation!' but i get no COORDINATES or CALLSIGNS... so i get back to base eventually after i unsuccesfully looking for my formation for few mins... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
not to mention friendly AI A/C shooting at u when you're on 6 of some bomber or whatever. i crashed many time 'cause of this.

praising this sim is irrelevant, 'cause we all know this is the best sim game (definitely in top 5 all times in my opinion)

if half of our talking above will be included in BoB, or some future projects that would be great news

I also agree with some of the points raised. I mentioned in a thread about bailing out during excessive G's. I think this should be changed so that It would seem more realistic than being able to bail out even when your A/C is tumbling wildly to earth. I also agree about the AI gunners being too damn good and even AI pilots that can shoot through thick cloud at you. Overall though i suppose this is nit picking considering the game is so hot in most areas.

It would be cool if you could get some sort of graphical analysis of hits and resultant damage you caused to enemy aircraft.

For example, you could have an arrow/line showing where the round entered the aircraft, and some info like 'caused catastrophic damage to rudder assembly' or whatever it actually did.

I am a kind of junkie for pausing the game after I have shot up and enemy and seeing what damage I have done!!

the_rydster you can enable something of things you mentioned by enabling ARCADE mode (in your installation directory of IL-2 look for conf.ini and line arcade=0 and change that to 1) and when u playing the game there should be an arrow in every spot where you hit enemy A/C and if u hit 'em hard above them pop up a little baloon (like in comics) saying something like 'i'm on fire','got to bail','gunner down' etc. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif
