You've seen some of these before but this pic was taken just as I finished the clipped wing Spit which is still missing the spinner in the pic. They're mounted on a rail of semi-circle white PVC with bent model railroading tubing to hold the planes up. That's a bamboo fly rod in the background(~1930s) with a ~1930s reel on it.

Nieuport, IL2, P47, P40, 2 Spits, FW190, JU88 and BF109...

Another fun pastime is reeling in torpedo sized Carp but I always take my IL2 obsession with me (notice the IL2 shirt? Oleg only sent them to his closest friends) /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Those models look pretty nice Dexmeister! The weathering on the IL-2 looks awesome! Do you use airbrush for that? I have a couple of kits back home, but haven't mustered up the time and the courage to dive into them!

Thanks for the post!

Dexter is doing well. As for the fish, I lowered him in the water and moved him back & forth to revive him, he was fine, and swam away to get caught another day. I'd never eat a fish that big, ugly or out of Lake Ontario /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Carp is actually an enjoyed fish (to eat) in Europe. The Carp-fishing bug people are getting in North America is catching on now that people are learning how Europeans do it.

Surely someone from the UK can back me up on this.

Oh, and if I had the desire to put that big-*** fish in my truck I could have sold it for $25 bucks to various Chinese stores in the area. Salmon that size would go for over 50.

Who makes the IL-2 kit?

Currently I'm working on a Tamiya 1/48th Bf-109E7. I use an Passche VL airbrush for finishing.

What do you use for a top coat if you don't mind me asking? I use all acrylics for paint and topcoat. I find the decals must have a gloss finish for best adhesion. Then if you want a matt finish this is sprayed next.

I'm teaching my neighbor kids to build kits also. Gave them my older airbrush.

Have you scratch built any models? I want to try some mahogany scratch builds.

Nice models by the wayhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That IL2 kit is by Accurate Miniatures. Really a nice kit!

As for top coats, I apply paint with a Paasche airbrush, then coat with Future Floor polish (in multiple light coats), apply decals, then more really light Future, then once that's all dried I use "Dull Coat" in an aerosol can, applying in really light coats and letting them dry. That dull coat really dulls down things.

Oh, and in the case of the P47 I think I used gloss coat.

Funny you started this thread. I just came back from vacation with a kit and some tools. Some jokers who know I'm into WWII aviation got me Hurricane and P-51D models (wish they were the same scale) as a sort of joke. I decided to do them up this summer, so went into a hobby shop with my parents, who gave me $50 for my birthday (why they still do this I dunno /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif ). I picked up some brushes, acrylic paint, can of primer, knife and pinchers, etc. and also picked out a nice model of the Memphis Belle.

Don't figure I'll get started until after the patch, though. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-tongue.gif

Mike

PS – The lady who sold me the stuff recommended washing them off with warm water and a drop of dish soap, then rinsing and drying, followed up by applying a coat of primer while all the parts are still on the tree. Makes sense, the plastic is porous and the primer isn't. Too bad I probably have to go outside to spray...

I wash mine off once they're assembled but before I start priming or painting. It ensures you don't have any fingerprints or grease on the surfaces and so the paint goes on better.

Dex,

Who the heck are you trying to fool here buddy?

Its obvious that you are attempting to pull a fast one on us with your very suspect modeling of that carp.

Clearly anyone can see that you have over modeled the forward visibilty of that fish.

As you can observe in my illustration the fish is looking forward, but in fact the carp should have a slight angle of attack. evidenced by the red line.Carp would use this downward slanting forward visibility to see food clearly on the bottom of the river.

Please fix this. We want our fish to be modeled accurately!

Helos, I had the fish pose for the picture, which explains the difference in angle of attack, though I give you full credit for the analysis.

Since the Statue of Limitations lessens my chances of being reprimanded, I am now free to discuss certain youthfull indulgences...

If you are going to fish with explosives, make certain you test a few fuses first. If you don't know your fuses, you will get hurt.

Also, should you not heed my warnings, please refrain from 'borrowing' others boats. It is considered rude to loose a perfectly good boat due to a timing error.

I would also like to recomend warmer months, when boom-fishing, since a minor miscalculation usually leads swimming.

I'll have to try that future floor polish technique. Some of the guys at the model shop said that worked also. I can't imagine spraying dullcoat on top of this but I guess it works fine. I'll try it on an old build first for practice. Thanks for the tiphttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
