anyone remember the movie?

there is a scene where you can see a british officer with burn marks in his face, talking to a female officer. (later her husband gets burned).

remember this scene?

i think this officer with the burn marks in his face is the german fighter ace Johannes Steinhoff.
i got a pic of Steinhoff after the war and he looks exactly like this officer in the movie.

but his name is not shown in the beginning of the film.

my question to you guys know is: 1. anyone here who can get a list of the actors of the film and is his name on the list, or 2. anyone knows if he is it?

its a strange thing if he really is it, and plays a british officer (lol).

thx guys

IIRC the female officer was played by Suzanna York. Don't know about the pilot though.

http://www.imdb.com

no Steinhoff listed there, but maybe the makeup was modeled after his face ?!
Or Steinhoff changed name or did not want to be listed there ?!

I believe the part was played by Group Captain Tom Gleave, who does not appear in the acting credits but is listed as a technical advisor for the film. Gleave had several victories in the Battle of Britain before being shot down and horribly burned (he shared a hospital room, I believe, with Richard Hillary and is mentioned in Hillary's book.)

It isn't make-up, and it isn't Steinhoff. The two look similar because they shared similar injuries.

No Spits or 109's (Buchons) were harmed during the filming of that movie. The ones you saw being destroyed were dummies or models. My wifes cousin was the air to air cameraman on that movie and had the dubious pleasure of filming from a heavily modified B-25. He didn't enjoy it!

Really, I heard that they bought some really cheap and blew a few up as they were so cheap.

They were using spits for drone target practise by this time, I've seen the footage.

I saw a Surface to Air missile blow up a gloster meteor just yesterday on the history channel, what a waste :/

Just picked this movie up on DVD. I'll take a peek at the credits and see if I can figure out the actor's name.

I visit kissimmee airport located in Florida, USA as often as possible. It's very close to Orlando, which is the home of Disney. You know, where Mickey Mouse lives.

Anyway, this airport contains a museum and a restoration business. They restore and refurbish aircraft there to flying condition. They have corseairs, fw-190 which is going to be retored to flying condition. They even have a p-38 which looks like a crumpled-up sheet of tinfoil. Yes, they want to restore it.

They also have a unique artifact from the movie Battle of Britan. Its a wooden replica of a spitfire. They used these as filler aircraft. Ex add more planes to flight-line etc.. They also blew them up for special effects etc... Anyway, if i remember correctly I believe what the owner of the museum said to me that it is the only existing one left. I thought I would share this with IL2 fans.

The musuem has a great web-site too. Hope you get a chance to visit.
