View Full Version : idea for a new view in FB

right - what is the one thing that is common to all the views (f1, f2,f3 etc )in FB?

yep - thats it - in all of the available views the plane that it is focused on is right in the middle of the screen - bang dead centre. - all the time
now, i remember along time ago (whilst viewing in f2 view) i was playing and my father observed that the planes didn't quite seem to fly just right - that now and again something seemed wrong - not wanting to admit there may be something wrong with olegs FM's i kinda ignored this, even though i could see what he meant but i couldn't put my finger on it.
it was about 2 months ago whilst i was "viewing" a wingman - i looked across to my plane - and then i kind of twigged - watching my plane from the viewpoint of another plane, my plane flew in a much, much more realistic way, bobbing about and making small movements. - i realised this is probably due to the way we are used to seeing planes in films etc - always the camera is in a position (usually in another plane) that is independent of the viewed object - with the result that every small movement of the plane can be seen and when this is recreated in FB IMO it makes it look so much better.

now alot of the time i watch my plane via my wingmans f2 view although i have to move the mouse about all the time to keep my plane in view - and also my wingman is not always flying next to me.

So my idea for a new additional view is basically as if there was a wingman next to you all the time (that you cannot see) - so your plane movement is more pronounced - does anyone else think this is a good idea?? - if you wondering what i mean - try it for yourself - when in formation with your wingman.and see what you think.

opinions gratefully recieved /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Odd I was actually thinking about this just the other day lol. Yeah I want that but you can move it around. And another one for chase mode, but you can have it in front of the plane too. That would look great if youre being chased O.O Imagine the posibilities!

(n.b - i did actually mean that you could move it about -

I think you have a very good idea. You are a dangerous person.

Yep, that's a good idea. A very good one.

Hmmm, he's right, you are a dangerous person. Don't do it again. Nobody likes a smartass.

good idea..

another view is missing that i really loved, and ive only seen in only one game (that i have)

in EAW there was the "battle camera" or whatever you want to call it

the camera was never fixed to one plane, it constantly changed, different viewpoints, angles and such.

i still havent found this on any other game yet. why?

i thought it was a pretty neat setting, just to watch the air battle unfold.....

I started a post in ORR yesterday about more external view options after watching the excellent Lock-On video. Lots of things could be done with external views, but nothing has changed since v1.0x IL2 original. Too bad really...there is so much room for new eye candy...

Check it out and add to the thread, maybe someone will see our ideas and work on them...

The one view option that I would really like to see is simply to be able to move my head left, right, up, and down, as well as forward and back. I do not mean FOV, but actual head-positioning such as was used in WWII Fighters. At least then I could actually look at the pretty compass thingies in the Yaks, Hurricanes, etc. . . .

I think its a great idea. In fact so do others. Eagle Dynamics (another Russian sim maker - makers of the Flanker series) are making a game called Lock On: Modern Air Combat or LOMAC. Most of you have already heard of it. In this game there is a view called the shaky cam or something like that. Basically, the cam shakes and buffets etc to simulate the view of the aircraft flying through the air if you were sitting in a second plane watching your plane. On the lock on site you can see this in action in one of their downloadable videos. I can't remember which one unfortunately, but its one of the latest ones.

I also remember the EAW battle cam, wouldnt it be great if FB enabled this in full real mode, so that when you die, you arent just left to sit staring into oblivion until the whole battle has finished.

A Bomb view would be slick too.

I think this "realistic" view u refer to is called "floating" view and Ive seen it in some sims before.

actually I remember reading somewhere that this view sort of was doing the same movments as the plane but a bit later
and that eliminated the "unwanted" effect that the aircraft seemed to be balanced on a stick instead of floating softly in the air.

By all means, I would post this in ORR. That's the place to take great ideas, like this one, for future development. I actually was going to suggest that to you this morning anyway, and here you go and mess up my schedule:

1. Roll out of bed.

2. Bathroom

3. Coffee

4. Tell Fluke to post in ORR.

Very good idea you have here, Fluke. Now go tell Oleg.

A great idea I think. Have you seen the Lomac videos yet? they have some 'bobbing' in the external view. Makes the video appear a lot more realistic.

I hope IL2 gets this soon.
