I use it, it adds some immersion for me.

The problem with FFB is the stick physically jerks in your hand, putting your aim off. This is a big disadvantage if noone else is using it. So best not to use it online IMHO .

My logitech stick had it, and I only kinda liked it.

My new X45 doesn't have it, and I don't really miss it at all.

I think its great, easy to tell when you are about to stall adds a lot to the game IMHO.

I use FFB always. I had my ffb stick die on me last year and for a week I was stuck with my backup joystick and it had no ffb.

I was suddenly slipping into spins, stalls and at one point I managed to get my self into an inverted flat spin. It was an awsome experience but not fun when online and in the middle of a furball.

I rely on FFB now to inform me of just how far I am pushing my plane. FFB allows me to push it right up to the edge of a stall when the air is rushing and buffeting and the stick shuddering. Without these tactile cues I find that relying on hearing only is not enough because I have been using FFB since the beggining and thus I now need it to dogfight and even fly effectivly.

I use FFB, and you'll never take it away from me! You hear me? NEVER!!!

FFB roxx http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Most ppl that have tested it and don't like it, don't like it because of the gun shake.

Here's a good advice: Remove (or better rename) those files in your FB\ForceFeedback folder (all .ffe):
punch (that's the really cruel one which kicks the stick backwards repeatedly while taxiing or having turbulences around)
machinegun
autocannon (they should explain themselves http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

Then you have the best effects left. RTC, depending on speed to simulate stick forces and (pre)stall-buffeting.

Willey,

Has anyone told you today that you are a genius? Well, there is good reason for THAT!

No, seriously. That is a perfect recommendation and I will test it out here shortly.

I tried flying with a non-FFB stick this morning and hated it. I feel like I have a much better "feel" for flying with the FFB (I use a Saitek).

I don't get stuck in spins nearly as much as I did when I first started out.

Thanks again.

So since you earlier said that you like the X45, I assume that you don't use the stick, but just the throttle.

Why doesn't Saitek just sell that separately?

When my Logitech Wingman died on me (about eighteen months ago), I tried a MS Force Feedback 2 for about a week. I just couldn't stand it. It was so bad comparing it with the Wingman. The force was so artificial, so distracting.I tried different settings with no luck. Maybe it was not for me, or I needed more time to get used to it. After one week I took it back to the store and ordered CH Fighter Stick and CH Pro Pedals.... I'm soooooo glad I did that.

I have all the forces set to 50%, and I find that it is good enough to help me sense the wind buffets withought completely spoiling a shot.

I love my FFB2, for all the reasons previously listed. I read a lot from the people who fly full real and there is often a sneering sort of undertone....read if you ain't flying like me then you ain't really flying.

Some of those same people say they don't like FFB especially when they fire their guns???

I have never actually got to fire a 37MM cannon while flying inverted and pulling hard left + kicking rudder but I would imagine it would throw your aim off just a tad.

My only complaint is the violence of the simulated turbulence under 500 ft. If it was that bad at all times in real life the pilots would have had no teeth left.

I've never used a FFB stick in game. I tried the demo on the shelf at Fry's, and it jumped around and shook. I realize that may not be a good representation of what a game can do, though. Who knows, I might like it if I tried it. But I'd have to spend some money to do that, hehe. http://www.geocities.com/adlabs6/B/bin/1/wink.gif

I tried the changes that Willey recommended and must say that I don't like it.

Taking off was too easy since the stick didn't jump around. When I first started bought the stick I thought it was annoying (since the tail wheel jumps up and down).. but just chocked that up to realism.

And the plane didn't seem to fly as well either. I don't think that the kick felt while shooting affects the shots adversely since even without the feedback on the shots to jump a bit. The guns must have a bit of play in them in r/l or else they might rip out of their mounts anyway.

Interesting how the poll results were pretty evenly split.

Thanks to all who voted!

What Smokejaguar and Airbot said.

"ForceFeedback is as vital to FB as bread and water."

Not sure where I read this though.

NOT! I dont really understand what FFB can give me. My boyfriend seems to think that FFB is the way to go but I'm not so certain. I guess I'll have to ask him to give me an in-depth explanation and demonstration of what it is and how to use it to my advantage. It might just be my feable mind but heck, I am just a girl after-all !!!!

Without FFB I probably would continually stall my plane over and over again.

I need FFB, or else I would fly like crap.

Welcome to the forum Lubeylu.

You actually get to see your boyfriend?

When most of the guys here get hooked on IL2 they generally forget about women!! And cooking, and laundry, and bathing, and shaving, and work... and just about everything else.

I have heard thru the grapevine that the next patch for the game will take care of this stuff for us.

Quite right. Problem is, the game already simulates the guns shaking - and thus throwing off your aim - even without the FFB.
I didn't want to remove the effects completely, but I did edit them so they don't kick nearly as much.

EDITED: That damn QUOTE tag, which I always for some reason seem to mess up.

I use FFB and agree with the other FFB-users. I've downloaded someone's edited forces, so I no longer suffer from the bomb-bug that will use the bomb drop force for all other buttons once it's been pressed, the new forces also tone down stickshake, most of all during taxi and turbulence (which were the two that were bugging me the most).

I find that FFB helps me "feel" my aircraft better, so I don't have to rely on gauges, visual ques and audio ques as much. I basically just fly and use the stick vibrations and control surface forces to guide me.

(I've tried non-FFB at friends houses to show them neat FB stuff that they might have missed, and believe you me, I couldn't perform at all without my FFB. My friends could barely hold in the chuckles when they saw me spin, stall and constantly overdo the control inputs...)
