Ive noticed that almost all servers that include cockpit on, no externals never have padlock enabled.....

Why is this? IMO, padlock enabled while in cockpit is not cheap, or lacks "immersion"...

Is it because those with Track IR want an advantage over those without?

I am forced to use a hat switch when in a cockpit on no padlock game, and while its adequate at best, it is clunky, and very easy to push the wrong way at a critial time, and often disorienting me...

I felt the same way. Then I got trackIR. What can I say now except TrackIR killed the padlock star.

No, cause of the fun, I have no TrackIR and I dislike padlock, caus of the radar funktion...
no padlock is simply much more challenging..

Kartveli, you simply need to practice using your hat. It's really all you need for viewing.

TrackIR is nice to have, of course, but you really don't need it, or padlock, to control your own views.

Some people do have a problem with Padlock and I can see why considering the "radar" it brings into the game.

But try and fly without it and without a TIR on a cockpit on server. It's very difficult. Some people use a mouse for viewing but I could never do that because I get too busy.

I don't have a problem with padlock regardless of the radar issue. It's a little bit of a crutch but then again most people have a 17 inch view into the virtual world. I think that's the trade off.

I own a TIR and I would never go back but really this is game not real life so there has to be a compromise in order to have game play. It doesn't make sense to have everything as realistic as possible because if you've ever flown a real plan IL2 is nothing like it. Don't get me wrong it's the best WWII sim out there but there are a lot of limitations with a sim. You have to have compromises IMO.

Most servers have padlock off because of a bug where, if the server operator does not reset padlock back ON after server start it keeps getting set off.

I believe it to be a conflict with the launch command from Hyperlobby.

The anti-TIR crowd has turned it into a witch hunt rather than dealing with the actual problem which has nothing to do with TIR.

I use TrackIR but I host 99% of the time with Cockpit on and padlock on for those who want to use it. So if you see my server online, (Wed and Sunday) and PW is not on come on in http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
