View Full Version : Releeshahn?

I really have no idea, I just want to see what everyone thinks. Do you think there's a possibility we might get to see Releeshahn in Revelation?

Some people think so. Many have tried to claim that the panorama on the teaser site was a pic of Releeshahn, because it looks a little like the drawings in Atrus's journal in Exile. But we now know for a fact, confirmed by Ubi, that the pic is of Tomahna.

However, articles from E3 say that there is a "civilized" Age in the game, and one of the screenshots shows an Age with floating rocks, like the floating rocks in Atrus's journal. So, it just might be possible.

I'm not sure I believe it yet, but my mind is open to the possibility.

Sorry, was that my fault?

Well anyway, now we're here, that place doesn't really look like it could exist on the surface (otherwise surely it would have been discovered by now). It MUST be a different age.
Although we've been told by official sources its Tomahna.

Maybe Yeesha was being a bit more cryptic than we thought?

There are tens of thousands of square miles of wilderness in New Mexico, and Tomahna is only a speck of a few acres in all of that, tucked away in the mountains. It might not be as easy to discover as you suggest. Also, this story takes place about 200 years ago, before that area was inhabited by anybody but a few Amerinds and maybe some tiny Hispanic communities. Even if some of them DID see it, they couldn't exactly phone the New York Times and report it.

Really? Oh OK. I guess I just sorta figured that what you see in Uru "is" New Mexico, and its not there!

How big is big? Its quite hard to imagine these things...

(Try to imagine something billions of light years wide, expanding at speeds dozens of times faster than the speed of light - imagining big things like the universe is quite tricky.) Not that I'm comparing New Mexico to the Universe, but .... well, it really makes ya think, doesn't it?

Greetings,
I don' believe that there is any evidence to suggest that.
In fact it seems that most of the evidence suggest that it is not.
On the other hand the cleft is clearly on earth and although Uru would lead us to believe that it is located in New Mexico, additional information might suggest an alternate location.
Anna, Atrus's grandmother and her father worked in the desert near the cleft and traveled to the city of
Tadjinar to trade for supplies.
I couldn't find any reference to a city of that name ever existing in New Mexico or anywhere else.
Atrus lived with Anna in the cleft until he was 14 and the only contact they had with outsiders were nomadic Bedouin on camel caravans with whom they traded for supplies.
To my knowledge there were never any camel caravans roaming the New Mexican desert.
My conclusion;
Tomahna is an age written by Atrus to resemble the cleft were he spent his early childhood.
The cleft is actually located somewhere in the Arabian desert although I could be wrong.

Shorah Melas,
Now I remember the cleft, I remember thinking how similar it felt to that distant past with Anna and Atrus that I can hardly remember.

I remember the the cleft in the book set in a more Arabic region (maybe that was an assumption? In any case I now apoligize before-hand for any addition assumptions and misconceptions I make http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) but I think the grasses and the whole environment suggest a more grassy cracked dessert which would tend to lean away from sandy Arabic regions and such, though I must point out the volcano (if that's what it is) doesn't seem to fit this geological environment at all.

Forgive me if I'm invoking any Uru spoilers (and considering that this is a Rev forum and that I have not even played Uru) but how does the cleft and the volcano(?) fit with Riven (whark bones/telescope thing) and is D'ni as close to that place as I think? For that matter, does the location connect with the original Myst in someway?

Disclaimer: Please forgive me (again) for anything I have said that may offend, betray utter ignorance, or has been terribly misinterpreted

There has been a great deal of discussion on these topics on the Uru boards and elsewhere; you can search there if you want more discussion, but to make a long story short, the "conventional wisdom" is that:

a) "Tomahna" means "home" in D'ni, so the name could refer to lots of places, but the "Tomahna" you see at the beginning of Exile is the one in M4, and they're both located in New Mexico, near the Cleft seen in Uru.

b) The books DID set the cleft/volcano somewhere in the Middle East, but Cyan has been quoted as saying that the author got it wrong. The cleft was always supposed to be in the American southwest. (Alternatively, you could just look at it as two different versions of the same story, neither of which is right or wrong, which is how I prefer to see these things http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

c) D'ni the city is underground fairly near the cleft, connected by a series of caves and tunnels (natural and D'ni-made) and the Great Shaft, which we caught a glimpse of at the end of the first Uru expansion pack and expect to see more of.

d) The stuff that fell into the Star Fissure at the end of Riven wound up in the desert near the cleft, as seen in Uru. What exactly the explanation for that is -- and the difficult question of the nature of the Star Fissure in general -- is a matter of much debate. But the general idea is that at the end of Riven, YOU end up back on Earth somewhere, so the other stuff that fell in the fissure must end up back on Earth too (as indeed the linking book that took you to Myst in the first place).

Yeah, I downloaded the demo which stops before first linking to Relto (I think that was Relto) and it's pretty awesome, (my new Dell couldn't play it - graphics card thing - played it on an older machine - sound didn't go to well, don't even know if I was supposed to hear Yeesha's speech - that was Yeesha right?)

But it was excellent! The graphics are great, saw the trailer - awesome - real atmospheric, shame about Uru Live, that would have been cool, but yeah sometime soon I'll probably go out and buy it.

But anyway, enough Uru, Revelation anyone?

Did I say something wrong? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I'm kind of a work-a-holic graphic artist and I try to refrain from play games (unless I'm researching http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif) But the most notable exception to my rule is the Myst series - I love the graphics, the story, the gameplay, the characters, the atmosphere, the idea! RealMyst and Uru are great too, (though in a different graphical sense) but mainly because of the fact that they are "Myst related" (I love those two words http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

I haven't got an excuse for not playing Exile, but on that topic and this thread (though maybe not this forum) I gather Releeshahn was mentioned in Exile, disregarding whether it appears in Rev, what is it's significance? (am I correct in thinking it is a previous tomahna for Atrus and Catherine?)

Srikandi
06-05-2004, 12:54 AM
When Gehn was a boy, the city of D'ni fell to a biological weapon wielded by a vindictive noble. Most died, but some were in other Ages or managed to flee to other Ages and survived. D'ni was depopulated.

Much later, Atrus decided to try to rebuild D'ni, and sought out the D'ni survivors to repopulate it. However, events changed his mind, and he wrote a new Age, Releeshahn, for all the D'ni survivors to move to. So Releeshahn is the modern home of D'ni civilization. (This is the subject matter of the Book of D'ni.)

The plot of Exile revolves around the recovery of the Releeshahn linking book, which is stolen from Tomahna in the first few minutes of the game. The player never explores Releeshahn, but catches a glimpse of it at the end of Exile.

I can see why people are anticipating Releeshahn! It's infectious too - I didn't even know where it was and I was dying to see it! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif But anyway, who's to say (except Sri, who probably knows) that Cyan didn't give Ubi some guidelines for it?

As we have all been led to believe ... Cyan has been holding Releeshahn back from being told or seen in any of the games for some reason ... most of us assume that Cyan has special plans for Releeshahn and they want to tell that aspect of the story themselves ... also Cyan does not want to be tied to anyone else's interpretation of Releeshahn and so again have not allowed anyone access to this Age ... yet. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i think its better that we dont see Releeshahn yet.

myst IV will be centered around yesha and the red and blue books. so, it wont envolve Releeshahn, it would be the prision worlds that we go in this time.

just like in exile, we will see the Releeshahn book. we can see it, smell it, but not touch it.

once we get the S&A thing out of the way, Releeshahn will be next. i think when we go into Releeshahn, there is going to be a reason. like maybe somthing went rong there, and you got to fix it, for atrus, again.

matt myat
06-06-2004, 11:54 PM
I think you're right pax, Releeshahn would only conflict with the brothers plot. Cyan seems to be in real-time mode at the moment (and so far it doesn't look as if they're coming back) so if they wan't to do it it'll probably come by in that flavour (compromising explorability over detail? or perhaps they're waiting for real-time to catch up!)

But who know's - they let out a slice in Exile - maybe they'll show some in Rev and feed it to us piece by agonising piece?

Atrus: "Oh dear, I must have left my Releeshahn book in Sirrus or Achenar's age, can you go and find it for me?" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

i think yeesha gos crazy in this one.

because look at her in URU.. SHES CRAZY!

or maybe not, maybe that happens in the next one. lets say, at the end of Releeshahn, atrus once again learns his lession, and starts to put full attention to yeesha. like, teaching her how to write, and make worlds.

in yeesha's own explorations, she finds D'ni and there pride. and some how becomes a barho nut head.

so when is Releeshahn coming out? christmass (i cant wait that long http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif )
