View Full Version : Some more realism for Campaigns

Although Il2 FB is still excellent, I think there are some missing features in single player Campaing mode. An old game of the past (1998), Jane's WWII Fighters, had two very immersive features:
- In the map, all the ground units were signed with the proper division name (Example: 99th US Infantry Division, or 12th SS Panzergrenadier division).
- The ground infantry was really present, with some dozens of soldiers near the tanks and the artillery, just running or standing up.

These two elements would add great realism to the campaign... why Il2 FB should not have them? I'd like them very much. It should be not difficult to insert infantry platoons (3D soldiers are present in the game, yet) and the map names for the units would be nice.

Ehm, please, do not debate about that having 300.000 soldiers on the ground will reduce the frame rate of the simulation... I'm not asking for the whole 6th German Army sieged at Stalingrad, really fighting street by street... I'd just like to see some dozens of platoons near the tanks, artillery, bridges: just spawning or disappearing, when the player is close or far from them.

With the stuff that I've seen done in FB in the way of tank battles a small low detail poly solider probably would work nicely.

There are actually a few people you can see fleeing from convoys when you attack them on some occasions...so its very possible. Its just not implemented...it'd be nice to be able to do it like a vehicle where there's a bunch of guys running through the streets. Not talking about squad AI either http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yea, first time I saw fleeing soldiers running from trucks in one of my strafing attacks I crashed! It was amazing, but you have to be close and low to see them.

Now a bit more of that around attacking locations and well... near perfection!

Build a ground attack mission and put a few static cameras around the point of attack and you can see folks bailing out of vehicles left and right.

I would like to see groups of infantry be treated just like vehicles so they could be targets for attack. Like RC said, not giant formations, just enough to shoot at and bomb. No need for individual AI, just group AI, maybe 10 or 12 followers for every actual AI infantry unit.
