I come from the Lo-mac community..I just bought FB and the expansion today and decided to go play..I noticed in some of the movies you guys made (great movies btw) that you get reflective water..so I asked in the server I was in, Hi guys, anyknow know how to get the reflective water? and someone put over the chat "Oh god not another ****ing newbie"

So I went into a diffrent server and was flying around...I was shot on the ground before take off and then I shot someone else while they were on the ground before they took off and was booted.

I love the game..the games physics are REALLY good and I love it. (gonna take some getting used to after Lo-mac) BUT im gonna keep playing...all I can say is you guys or the ones that are *******s to new players need to really take it easy...with that said..hello everyone =)

Keep trying different servers, some are better than others. Have you find the FB rooms at HyperLobby (http://hyperfighter.jinak.cz/) yet? Download link for the client software is in the left hand colomn of that site. There're usually more flying there than at Ubi.

Oh BTW, welcome to the community http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And you aint seen nuthin yet! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Welcome! The first things to do, if you want to be part of this forum, are:

a) get up to date with the lingo. Most of the new words to learn end with "whiner" (a true mark of the community)

b) decide if you are a luftwhiner or ameriwhiner.

c) keep discussing until dead about relative turning performance / climb rate / max speed /acceleration of Axis plane X vs Allied plane Y.

As an alternative, get Hyperlobby and go to a less heated scripted server like virtualpilots or bajamaja where people are actually helpful and enjoy playing as a team. My nick when I play there is 269GA~Maxmars.

Hehe ya, in lomac the planes arent so sensative to touch..gonna take me some time..

can someone tell me how to get the pretty reflective water? checked the setup and nothing.

Tully__
08-23-2004, 05:22 AM
You need to be using OpenGL, and make sure you have Stencil Buffer and 32 bit color selected in the IL2Setup video options. Then start the game and use the Custom video settings to select the highest option for all settings. Be warned, if your system is not a top notch performer this will impact on frame rates somewhat.

Yeah man, I'll let you in on it. The reflective water is enabled when you play in the perfect mode. Look at your graphic's options. When you choose perfect everything looks better, especially the water. Mind the fps though. Hope this helps and welcome to the community!!

Hmmm, bummer you're meeting all the bums.

Most of the guys I've met are ok, but there'salways one http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif who cries out "Cheater!" if he's ever shot down, and then he goes off on swearing binges. (Sniff-sniff... is that a fart I whiff? You know who you are.) Ruins the fun for most, but at least the ******* are in the minority.

Keep trying. The good guys are there.

Stick around. If you don't have it yet, get Hyperlobby (or even All Seeing Eye) and pick a server with the settings you prefer. There are a number of established servers out there that cater to different tastes, but here are a few of the better ones (most are scripted and track objectives & stats for both teams autmatically):

greatergreen
Warclouds
Birds_of_Prey
F16

I know I left a few out so don't be offended. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

Another handy word is "noob", meaning newbie (in the bas sense of the word). Other things to know:
BoB - Battle of Britain (upcoming release from Ubi)
PF - Pacific Fighters (upcoming ad-on)
LW - Luftwaffe
VVS - Soviet Air Force
TnB/T&B/TB - Turn and Burn, WWI-style manoeuvring fighting
BnZ/B&Z/BZ - Boom and Zoom, fighting by using speed and altitude

quote:
b) decide if you are a luftwhiner or ameriwhiner.

Optionally, you could go for the more elusive Eurowhiners or Britwhiners. Best though, is to find an obscure, but cool plane that's not in the game and start a number of threads whining about it not being in the game. We have Lancaster-whiners, Whirlwind-whiners, Pfeil-whiners, and whatnot, there's bound to be someone that you'll feel right at home with!

Also, make sure you check out the mission builders forum and the IL2skins-site (Http://www.il2skins.com). Good flying!

"Not too impressed with the il2 community"

Funny, I could easily feel the same about someone lumping an entire forum together from 2,2 experiances. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

IF you want to see real courtesy and decorum pick just about any FPshooter at random or alternativly you could grow just a tad thicker skin and enjoy the bus load of true gentlemen and ladies you will meet here.

There are people here who will go out of there way to help you on even basic, posted right in the manual issues. Unfortuantly from what I gather, dogfight servers might not be the optimum place to go looking for folks exchanging pleasantries.

You'll find lots of great guys in this forum. Of course there's some bad apples but those are in most any forum you'll find on the web.

Glad to see you're trying IL-2. I think you'll like it. I tried LOMAC but my system's not up to snuff. Besides I like WWII air combat and aircraft much more anyway.

I feel the same as you also, I'm not really good enough to play on Warclouds yet, and when I asked questions most of the people were nice but there were a few that wanted to cause trouble. I expected more teamwork from Warclouds, but I guess it just isn't my bag, baby... :P

Well, as is already said: there are good people and bad people. You just have to meet the good ones (which is about 80%-90% I gues).

One example of me: The other day I went online for the very first time with lomac. After the first five minutes I could still not start my engine and kindly asked how I could start my engine. I had NO answers. I asked again three more times (all nicely) and 30 minutes later I was still on the ground without a running engine. So I decided to go to an other server. I asked again and got an instant answer.

Ironically, I find it amusing that our buddy Meh didn't take offense to the original poster shooting first, asking questions later and painting everyone in this community with a broad brush... yet when I point this out this little issue via sarcastic logical analogy, I somehow become the bad guy.

So ... how many "oh no not another NOOB" comments did you count in this thread so far? You should have seen this forum last year when a simple request for help would start a major flame war. By my count, the reponses to your post (fishing expedition?) were quite positive.

Cully, it's not much different from the Lomac community. Your going to run into morons wherever you go and this place is no different. If you have questions or need help then I suggest searching these forums as they are a good source of info. Going into a game in progress might not be the best choice for getting answers.
Stick with it, it's a good sim once you get some practice under your belt. Same principles as Jets so you should do fine.
