After watching the first movie the second NEEDS to be three hours to develop characters and Abstergo and the Assassin order.

I think the first movie should've been 3 hours long. I get they wanted to appeal to a more mainstream audience, but in reality, it tried to do too much in far too little time. If they do a sequel, I agree it should be 3 hours, and give the time for all the main characters to fully develop.

Length isn't the issue, it's what you do with it (that's what she said). We know they had about 20 more mins. worth of material that was cut shortly before release. What that reason is, we can only speculate. My guess is that they had more lore stuff in the movie that test audiences didn't respond to in a way they had hoped, so they edited the movie to be tighter and more focused. With a franchise with such a rich and complex backstory, it can be tempting to want to explain too much of it at once. I've noticed this whenever I try to explain what AC is about to my friends. You easily start rambling about the finer details because everything is connected to a larger tangent, and at some point you can tell from their expression that you already lost them halfway through.

The real challenge is pacing yourself, starting out with the basics and gradually introducing the big picture. Spend too much time on details when you haven't hooked the audience yet will lead to a boring movie.

Better a 2 hour movie where you say "I wish they had added ..." than a 3 hour movie "OMG why didn't they cut that out." The Hobbit could have been two shorter movies (and originally was supposed to be). I'm sure as director it's hard to cut out stuff you created, so I'll trust Kurzel's judgment until I see different. I still think a TV series would be more versatile, with some action-packed episodes, some plot development episodes, and year-long character arcs.

At this point a TV show feels almost inevitable. Television is the only medium left that AC hasn't dipped into and I can't imagine Ubi would want to leave any territory unexplored.

Yes, especially if it would be like you said in this thread of yours.

Not many people are willing to watch 3 hours movies, not many cinemas are willing to have 3 hours movies and not many movie studios are willing to make 3 hours movies, so, very unlikely to happen.

It's just a question of when--before or after the Broadway musical.

The Broadway musical will only come out after the theater play.

ACB dialogues remind me of a musical, a really BAD musical.........

I'm starting to feel that way too. Now, the thing is, how successful do you think it will be?

But they can turn out really good.

e.g. Gladiator? The Godfather? God, even Schinder's List.

Depends on the scale and focus. Modern day would be perfect for a TV series since you can expand upon it better outside of the games and it'd be a thousand times cheaper than filming an entire season in Spain or Italy or wherever. But would enough people tune in for a MD-focused AC series? That's the question.

Length isn't the issue. It's what you do with each moment in the film. Length is to be proportional to the quality of content in the movie. Not have a long movie just for the heck of it. Even in the current movie there were some filler scenes with no purpose, and the movie has already short runtime!

Yeah - 3 hours is a recipe for box office disaster!
