But IIRC in January 1942 the 8" guns were removed and replaced with anti-aircraft guns. So during 5 of the whopping 6 months the ship fought in WWII, it didn't have 8" guns.

Yes, Chimp, Lexington had her 8-inchers removed and replaced with 1.1 "Chicago Pianos". This was done at Pearl Harbor in late March, early April, 1942.

and speaking of Pearl Harbour...

I wonder how much of it will be mapped in PF?

I have not seen a thread yet concerning the Islands of Hawaii.. maybe we are assuming it will be Completely represented and that is natural I guess, but....?

The ship is really good.
Been reading about it at http://www.hazegray.org/navhist/carriers/us_prewa.htm

Look at the pictures of it sinking.
Some thing to compare the real and game.
The mushroom one would be easy to copy.
Wonder if the 6" gun fire will destroy the planes on deck.

It looks great, but considering we're going to be seeing it quite a bit, I kinda wish the flight deck was of a higher resolution.

Perhaps it's a LOD thing, and the bump maps only get visible as you get closer.

Keep in mind.. even though it was put up on the Dev/update, it may still be a WIP and so may be tweaked some more before release. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Yeah, it could be a LOD thing or a WIP thing. Either way, I'm sure it'll look fine in the end. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Are those little people actually going to be in the game? Wondering if the possbile hit in frame rates is worth the brief glimpse as you zoom by flying hundreds of miles an hour.

Agreed. I love the model, but Godd##n. It looks like it's gonna be a killer frame rates.

Most ships went through several upgrades to AA systems during World War Two. It will be impossible for them to model every type per ship. Heck The USS NC went through something like 6 AA Uprades before the end of the war.

I can't wait to see what they do with the Yorktown Class Carriers. CV5 Yorktown, CV6 Enterprrise, and CV8 Hornet. Oh yeah, there ws the Saratoga, too, althought it stayed around Pearl for most of the war as a training carrier until it was deployed with Enterprise with Radar equiped air groups to provide night cover for the rest of the Pacific Fleet during the Okinawa and Iwo Jima Campaigns.
