I recently got a new monitor (16:9), and supposed that those annoying black bars will now vanish. Running any ac game I have, they are still there. The bars are just as big as on my former 4:3 monitor, therefore the game seems now squashed and stretched. I tried changing my NVIDIA controls, but it doesn't help. I really don't know what seems to be the problem, though I didn't try reinstalling anything (and I hope I won't have to).

although there are a few who prefer 16:10 or even 21:9 (and a few other rare sizes) generally the majority of all monitor sales are 16:9 and all game makers make 16:9 aspect ratio. All AC games run in 16:9 so it must be a setting on your monitor display... maybe you should make sure the aspect ratio is set 16:9 and not auto in your monitor on screen display settings. then in games you should see them perfectly, if not. set the game resolution to your monitors resolution (1920x1080 or 2560x1440 or 1280x720) whichever one it is.

ahhh I see. It's working now! The thing is, that I already went to the settings ingame, but I just couldn't find where to change resolution. That's why I thought I have to change the settings with uplay or NVIDIA. I swear the option wasn't there when I looked for it the first time
Anyway, thank you for replying and sorry for my incompetence. :D
