For me, it was about the 10th(not sure though) mission of the IL2 campaign, one where we were having to defend a town under attack. When I got to the town, it was surrounded by German tanks who were moving steadily closer and keeping fire on the defending Russians. Besides loving a good ground pounding mission, the sense of urgency and immersion in that mission made it a classic for me. I moved it over to single missions so i could keep playing it.

A close second is the US single mission included with FB, where you have to attack an airfield. Not as classic, but its good nevertheless.

I have just got FB so I don't know about that, and I only had IL2 a couple of weeks before it.

But I loved the IL2 mission in the single player missions where you have to attack german shipping. The flak flies thick and fast, and I never got through it alive!! Maybe because I did second passes? I remember the AI IL2's didn't fare well either as I think the most that ever survived it was two.....

With the fog and the lighting (and lightning) and the amount of flak it really gave a brilliant atmospere (although the flak seems to be even deadlier in FB!)

Red Falcon 4?

You... overcast, drizzling rain.
Separated from your zveno.
Flying 2000m or so.
20 minute flight til base.

Ahead... a swarm of Messerschmitts...

Behind.... a swarm of Messerschmitts.

Your mission - make it home alive.

If you haven't developed a love for the I-16, this mission will help.

have to say my favorite is from the U.S. Campaign that Extreme one did in the p-40s

The most memorable mission for me was in IL2, near the end of the Russian fighter campaign. I was heading into Berlin )I think) in a what seems like a P-39. We were heading in to strike an airbase in the city, and as it appeared on the horizon, low and behold... there were 4 Me262's lined up on the main strip. I went to max power, and made a pass along the row as the leader began moving, a single spray... and then pulling up hard into the skies for another pass. I looked back down, out the side window, and three of the four jets were engulfed in flames with pillars of fire and smoke reaching hundreds of feet up, what a sight. I observed for a few more seconds, and zooming in, I saw the pilots of the burning jets running for their lives. Incredible detail and immersion, and it always stuck with me.

On a ground attack mission in Lagg3s `41. Taking all sort of AAA fire. We suppressed most of them. We were criss-crossing the air field for another strike when I saw a lagg3 passing right across my view spinning like crazy with only one wing! I watched it and it ploughed into the ground!
We`d been jumped by 8 109s!

A great mission!

i dont remember my favourite mission, there are just too many wonderful situations.
but i remind me on the hardest.
it was pretty early in old IL2 german fighter campaign, intercepting a flight of pe8 with those cr'ppy armed and armored 109F2. now that was "fun". i got most likely killed by the first hit of these sniper gunners, because f2 has no armoured frontscreen. then, after several deaths, i managed to get my shot up plane home after downing one of them.

In IL2 theres a Sturmovick mission where you are attacking german tanks at the same time as Stukas are attacking Russian tanks and it turns into air to air combat between Il2's & Stukas. Huge fun

Or there was the mission where I got my first bf109 while flying an IL2. I laughed so much I almost crashed http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
