Firstly, open your IL-2 folder. Then open "Missions" folder, "Campaign" folder, then "RU" folder, "dgen_l_leningrad41doe0" (or something like that http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif), find conf.dat file, open it with Notepad, you'll see something like this:

Doe,John,Moscow,1918
3GvIAP
dir=missions\campaign\ru\DGen_L_Leningrad41doe0
Language=English
instant=false
Leningrad41 I_153_M62
Leningrad42 HurricaneMkIIb
Leningrad43 LA_5
Leningrad44 LA_5FN
Berlin LA_7 (and simply change this LA_7 to P_51D5NT or whatever u like to fly; Ruy Horta above posts a codes for all planez) so it will look like this:

Doe,John,Moscow,1918
3GvIAP
dir=missions\campaign\ru\DGen_L_Leningrad41doe0
Language=English
instant=false
Leningrad41 I_153_M62
Leningrad42 HurricaneMkIIb
Leningrad43 LA_5
Leningrad44 LA_5FN
Berlin P_51D5NT

When u finish your Leningrad44 campaign with La-5FN, you will be transferred to Berlin '45 and u will fly Mustang.

U can change your craft in the middle of the campaign, and u can fly different plane every mission, but that is just stupid. Not to mention it's pretty complicated, 'cause you'll have to edit a couple of files every mission you flown. A simpliest way is to change your conf.dat file as I described above. And in case u cannot find your campaign folder, it should be located (on default) in this location:

c:\Program files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\Missions\Campaign\RU\

Open "My computer" and in adress bar copy/paste this line open your campaign folder then find conf.dat and that's it.

Hope it helpz (I take it slowly as I can). http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/93.gif

You may also add the planes you wish in RusF.dat (not sure about the name, but it´s russian fighter campaign abbreviation.DAT) so everytime you started a new campaign you can choose the plane from the beggining.

Atomic_Marten, you are wrong about the difficulty of changing planes in the middle of a subcampaign. Take your example above, I could change a plane right in the middle of the Leningrad43 campaign and it's no harder than what you are describing. All you have to do is change the plane type in the status.dat file ( found in the same mission folder ) to whatever you want to change it to as long as it is on the same side. You would fly one more mission in the old plane but from then on the missions would generate with the new plane. You don't have to edit anything every mission like you said. It's easy. Why should you always have to wait until a new subcampaign begins before you change to a different plane??
Also if you edit the planes***.dat files in the Dgen folder, you can add lot of extra planes so you can have a much better choice in the first place, when you first start a campaign career. The newly added planes will show up in your drop down lists so you can start out in many more different types. Below is an example of my Russian fighter ( planesRuF.dat ) campaign list. As you can see I have added dozens of planes. The original file only listed about half this many.

Yes, the wait is excruciatingly longer in the German and Russian Leningrad campaigns where the subcampaigns are broken down in years (1941, 42, 43, etc.) and you have to wait an entire year before you get a chance to fly a new plane.

Hey Mortoma
Based on what you wrote in this other thread;
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=23110283&m=374102774

I traded in my Bf-109 F4 for a Bf-110 G2...
Cool thing IMO, thanks for the info...

However, when trying to do a similar thing in a Finnish campaign it didn´t work...
Reason might be that I wanted to get a "RED" plane(I_153P) into Finnish Air Force(BLUE side)

(I think I have seen some picture with I-153 in finnish markings, in any case I thought it´d be cool http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

OK here goes, my question is now;
HOW to go about it to put, in this case an I_153P in a Finnish campaign?

You can't do it as far as I know. Since red and blue planes can't be flown on the opposite side. There is one way you might get it to work but it would be a tremendous pain in the rump. You could start a campaign in a allowable Finnish plane like a buffalo or something and before every single mission go into FMB and change your squadrons planes to I-185. Or you could edit the highest numbered .mis file in your campaign's folder and change it that way but you'd have to exit entirely out of FB to do that. But I'm not sure that even any of this would work, I never tried it. Even if it did you'd really have to want to do it badly to make it worthwhile going through all that. Give it a try, see what happens. Your briefing and debriefing screens would still say your were flying a Buffalo or whatever.

O.K. you're right mortoma, just like I'm right too. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif If our felow here post a topic saying that he is having big time problems editing this files on his comp, I figure it will be good if he will be able to do as much as I described above.

Also if u edit your status.dat file you'll change your plane all right, but it will look stupid to have for instance LA7 on briefing, (p/p-k. Doe (LA-7)), and when mission started u are sitting in Mustang. 'Cause your DGen create this two nice files (.mis, & .properties) every time you finish your mission, for the next mission also, before you fly it. And yes, I forget the logbook.dat editing (LA-7 to P-51) also, to make everything look right. Correct me if I left something out...
Cheers

Thanks Mortoma, I might give that a try Not sure though...

Anyway, Atomic_Marten wrote;

In your example, that is changing plane within same colored RED side... That works, and briefing menus etc are changed as well...
(at least when I traded in my Bf-109F4 for Bf-110G2 as mentioned above it does... Menus show Bf-110G2...)

It is doable to change A/C's in the middle of the campaign(with no big problem, but minor problems will appear http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif). But it is for sure complicated (that is I presume, if u want anything to look O.K.). If u edit only status.dat, you will fly your next mission without problems with your NEW plane, but your record ("Details" menu in-game) will show that you flown that mission with your old plane. Also, in briefing you will see your old plane as I described above. It does not affect game itself; indeed you can continue your campaign without problems. Only trouble is with these details(if they are important anyway http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif). THAT is the main reason why I say that it is complicated to edit your campaign to fly every mission with a new plane.

However, if u wanna to change A/C in the middle of campaign and keep records clean, u should first change your status.dat, (enter the right code for desired plane but u must do it for your entire squad):

As I said; (AGAIN!)

"In your example, that is changing plane within same colored RED side... That works, and briefing menus ETC are changed as well...
(at least when I traded in my Bf-109F4 for Bf-110G2 as mentioned above it does... Menus show Bf-110G2...)"

ETC= In my pilots log It now shows that I flew Bf-110G2 in my last 4 missions... And in the Briefing menu it shows before each mission that we are about to fly Bf-110s(ALL Squadron members that is)

I only changed my own plane in "Status.dat" file as Mortoma described how to...

Atomic I don't have the problem you are talking about, if I switch by editing the status.dat file I never have any problems in my logbooks or any briefing or debriefing problems. The reporting of everything is just fine. I fly one more mission in my old plane after I make the edit, then begin flying the new plane which then shows up listed as our squadrons plane in the briefing. If I get kills in that last mission in my old plane, they get crediited to my old plane, then that next mission when we get our new plane, any planes shot down get credited properly to our new plane too. I think you are confused about some stuff, no offence.

Atomic_Marten
06-23-2004, 12:45 PM
Yes, you are right mortoma. I overlooked line in your text that say that u should wait for one more mission to make it all work. I however, was describing the way of immediate changing plane during subcampaign, you know, when u see your mission briefing with your old plane, you hit ESCAPE and exit the game, then edit all those files like I described, then back to game, and you'll fly exact the same mission with new plane in mission briefing. Of course doing it your way is way simplier, and sorry for not seeing it before.

Of course no offence taken, how could I take offence when I was wrong http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

mortoma
06-24-2004, 02:47 PM
You are correct then, if you edited your current .mis file, you'd be flying the new plane upon flying the next mission but yet the credits for kills ( in that one mission ) and such would still go under your old plane. And yes, the briefing screen would show your old planes. But the briefing ( contained in the properties file ) is informational only and has no effect on the game. You could correct the logbook.dat file to get your kills credited correctly. But yeah, having to do that kinda stuff is a royal pain.
