I very much liked the music in Silent Hunter 2. Infact it was the high point of the game!

Anyway I think the devs should keep the same soundtrack or re-mix it a bit. What d'you think?

I think they should make a new soundtrack.

Maybe they can include the old soundtrack as an option for fans like you.

One of the many many many AOD features that AODers go on and on and on about is the "record player". It would be cool that along with a brand spanking new orchestral soundtrack there would be a "record player"in SH3, which would have three very important characteristics (in ascending order of importance):

1) It would play period musical selections, like in the real Das Uboats.

2) The record player was really an MP3 player. The player could create his own playlists. If he so wished, the player could treat his virtual crew to an interesting survey of late 20th and early 21st century music.

3) Prevent the outpouring of ennui from AODers that would occur if such a feature was not included.

The radio room screenshots show a normal radio as well, so it looks SHIII will include the option to play tunes while at sea. :-)

Oh man, a built in MP3 player would be wonderful.

I've gotta CD right here - 'Berlin By Night: Songs of stage screen and radio in the Weimar republic and the 3rd Reich' that should fit the bill nicely!

If it's done with the same type of .wav files, it will be no problem to put in any music you want. I used the DBSM soundpack, so my "theme" is the subpen scene from the movie, and the rest of the music in my game is music from the movie as well.

i reckon ona similar vien ; that they should keep include and expand upon the Erich Topp interview , as this allthough ver rarely mentioned i reckon was a hugely interesting and balancing part of SH2...im sure that they must have edited the interview to cut it down to a small package for inclusion with the game , i'd like to see the full interview and even a capacity to expand the section with other material, maybe be able to download additional movies into the player and build up a fascinating library ....

I really think that this is a VERY good idea because, on average we all have at least 10GB of space to "piss away" and what better place to do it... i would love to download new videos and mave a historical archive... but i must admit; it would not do much to enhance gameplay

Why should they incorporate a MP3 player in SHIII to play the tunes we already have on out computer ???

I assume that SHIII will fully support XP and multitasking. So it should be a piece of cake to load your own favorite MP3 player AND SHIII at the same time.

I really think that including a MP3 player in SHIII is a waste of dev-time.

I rather want them to include historical news broadcasts and music that we can receive on various radio stations. Tune in to radio Berlin and hear nazi propaganda / war news, tune in to radio London and hear a speech of Churchill and some allied propaganda.

thinking about it of course if lets say that there is an ordinary radio in the game and it is linked to a media player either inside or outside the game....then well it would mean that yu could compile yur own radio broadcasts . period music etc with no restrictions on length or quality of the file
you could for example have the entire sound track from DAS BOOT (ala DBSM) all 4 GB of it no doubt, playing thru as you play the game
and think of the possibilities regarding future mods...i think it's a very easy way to create an expandable and moddable sund effect music libary without affecting the normal in game sounds..really they could just allow the "player" to link the "player" to the "player" ahem

re; the wonderfull Erich Topp interview/movies
i wonder if they filmed these sepcailly for the game (SH2) or took them from stock archives some-where? they do say that Erich Topp was a consultant on the game so they must have had contact with him so it's not impossible that they took a camera along at some point (if they met in person) given that every day that passes reduces the number of WW2 veterans of all nations and all experiences...any record of their personal actual thoughts is absolutely priceless , we won't get this chance again...
especailly on the german side..thats a slightly less comfortable subject of course

re; the wonderfull Erich Topp interview/movies

As far as I know Topp is still alive, would be awesome to have a full interview with him included in the game

The Erich Topp interviews: I remember reading that all the interview materiel was indeed new recordings made exclusively for the game, a continuation of the idea from SHI's Bud Gruner interviews. One of my disappointments (a small one, I admit) with SHII was the lack of an SHI-style sub tour, guided by Topp (as Gruner also did in the original).

As to MP3/phonograph selections, I would like it this way: A phonograph a la AOD, with a limited number (say 20) of selections, with the ability to trade out the records you wanted to listen to. This is easy with .wav files, and there are several good sites to get contemporary music and radio files from. The game could come stock with a selection to start with.

Always keep you clothes and your weapons where you can find them in the dark.

I like the fact you can slip your own tunes in the gramophone subfolder and start your career listening to Maurice Ravel's "Bolero", at 1/3 speed, in a splendid september morning. It's pure fun.
