I dont recall tghis question but are destroyers going to have a limited ammount of deph charges they can use? nothing on a subsim is more irratating than only having a few destroyers arround you but drop enough tnt to blow up a small country and keep trying to get you. Also convoy escorts would not leave for long they would only make a few passes and re join there defence screen on the convoy.

Yeah this is a big one too..........

Destroyers main goal is to drive you away and not nes. sink the u-boat, it was just a bonus if it happened to work out that way. Forcing a sub to break off an attack and dive deep was considered a success to escorts.

you have to remember that most U-boats were sunk by aircraft attacks, not destroyer depth charges!

Right for convoy's escorts, but some hunting group was more aggressive.
Anyway, each unit should have limited ammo.

I'm pretty sure that in one of the previews ( Boomtown I think) they said the enemy is going to have limited ammo!

I am worring more about the hedgehogs. I will react to every escort that attempt to attack me by always thinking they have hedgehogs. Those are very effective and an excellent standoff weapon. Im not sure of the effective range though 1k yards? Anyone have any ideas? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I remember that the range of hedgehogs, as well as the number simultaneously launched, varied by type and maybe age (but I'm not sure).
I fear this weapon since I played Wolfpack; and I loved it when I played this game on surface side.
Limite ammo for hedgehogs too!

According to my source the Hedgehog gave a 40yd/37m circle at 200yd/183m of a statiobary ship.

I believe that Drebbel is indeed correct with this info.

I just quoted from the best book for WWII Naval Weapons one can find :-)

As well as limited ammo I'd also argue for realistic reload times too!

Right, realistic time for reloading is a must!

Should also be remembered that it was not until mid 1942 / early 1943 that escorts began to seriously believe how deep U-boats were going. Often charges were set to shallow for much of the early war period (indeed, i believe that even the maximum setting possible was still woefully inadequte until modifications were later made)

Yes, but U-Boats too didn't know how deep they were able to dive, at the beginning; few captains wanted test by themselves what was the real crash depth.

True, i guess for the sake of gameplay its a feature that should not be replicated, other-wise we'll all be going deep, in the certain knowledge that we'll be ok, thus evading risk for the first few years of our careers http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hmmmm the idea is to actually avoid escorts http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif nothing wrong with going deep, just got to renember the deeper you go the more presure on the hull, onbvious i know but renember depth charges put more presure on when the explode near so deeper isint always better.

Pappy55,
But the deeper the depth charge explodes the less explosive force and the distance of effect.

All that is required to make an exciting and nervous experience going deep to to allow a random variable on the u-boats maximum depth anywhere from above max depth to and beyond theoretical crush depth.

Quite agree on that one, just because we have a boat that one time can go to 90metres i don't want to start a new career and have the same class of boat and expect it to automatically be able to cope with the same depth. Each boat (not class but boat!) would have been a little different, lets see that modeled!
