Ok, it is done in Lightwave 3D Everything modeled by me (low poly models) for a challenge at Renderosity.com

I know it´s not perfectly historically acurate (color of tracers,...) What do you think?

Looks good. Can you render it at a higher res (like 1280x1024) so we can use it as a background?

Looks good maybe lights and surround light needs to be adjusted to bring the planes more into the background scene. Looks like light position is from top right while sun on clouds is from high left.

High Ground is not only more agreeable and salubrious, but more convenient from a military point of view; low ground is not only damp and unhealthy, but also disadvantageous for fighting.

My only suggestion would be to use a higher FOV to give the scene more sense of speed.
