There are many issues in FB, we all know that. But after playing some LOMAC, I see how good FB is. There are some physical things that seem self-evident in FB. Taxiing, Landing, TO, behaviour when stalling after a 90? climb and several more... LO just looks *old* compared to FB in these terms. Even with some FM, DM or whatever issues, FB is the best ATM.

But one issue is really nasty. And that's the accuracy of AI controlled guns in general. If it's normal AAA, ship cannons, tank main guns ot those gunners in B-17, Pe-2, He-111... they are all damn good. I just can imagine that this is real. By applying some tactics, it's easier to evade a ZSU-23-4 Shilka AAA tank's fire in LOMAC than to evade FB guns.

Yesterday I got killed by a tank main gun at night! It was dark... but this thing killed me with the first shot http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif. Also, attacking B-17s is really hard. Independent of how I attack it (from high 12 with 900+ kph IAS for example, or even high 10/11/1/2 o'clock), It's quite sure that I get hit. Of course it's much more dangerous to park at it's six, but even where they should hardly hit me, they hit quite often.

I also got hit by a M16 quad .50 cal AAA yesterday... range was approx. 2-3km. How can they shoot that far??? Tracers travel ~10km far http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif.

So my plea is, please tone them all down. A difficulty switch somewhere in the conf.ini could be an alternative, but IMHO it's easier to just dumb them down. Somehow all AI guns remember me of the 1.0 ship AAA right now...

Some numbers http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. (Die Deutsche Luftwaffe 1939-1945, Galland, Ries, Ahnert)

Flak of the Luftwaffe reported 8706 air kills until 31.12.1942. They used 35.322.260 grenades to achieve that. That are 4057,23 grenades per kill. I bet, in FB the AAA kills at least 100 planes with that amount.

In 1944, averagely used shells per kill:
16.000 88mm (Flak 36/37)
8.500 88mm (Flak 41)

One can say that they needed more shells because of those high-flying bombers while till late '42 many kills could be low-flying soviet planes.

I have to add, it's quite weird to see 1vs1 then in FB. IRL, there were hundeds of B-17 in box formation. In FB, a single one is really dangerous for a single attacking plane already. The relations don't fit very well here. That's really the most frustrating part of FB.

PS: I also "whined" about the AAA back in Il-2 1.2. But now, I wish, it was "that bad" again http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif. It really was worse (=less accurate) than now.

Did anyone see that or was it just me?

One of the arguments for AAA accuracy
is that to reduce CPU and frame rate issues
each AAA unit really represents several actual
guns. This can make putting AAA into small
scenarios difficult, though. Perhaps some
additional options for placing AAA in missions
are needed - e.g. a skill level so a single
AAA with good skill is really 3 AAA units, say,
but one with the lowest skill is as good as
a single AAA unit would be.

Bump. Like this idea

Russian aircraft require skill to fly.
German aircraft require ten times that skill, and one hundred times the patience!
