The other day I went to a server at HL - I think it was the F16 or maybe another dedicated FR server. There were some 8-10 people there flying a '43 mission with ILs, Las, Yaks vs FWs & 109s. I took off in an FW & headed for the target area to protect tanks & vehicles against the ILs. Cruising at 3k I got visual with another FW about to bounce an La5 below him & decided to stay high so I could get in quick should my friendly get in trouble. He soon did so I dived on the enemy now on his tail & scored a few hits into his wings & fuselage - not enough to take him out but enough to give my friendly time to escape. I followed him back to base to rearm & refuel where we both landed & took off together. We started communicating by chat & formed a rotte to cover eachother. I wouldn't say that we were incredibly successful the next hour we flew together - we did bag us a couple of ILs & a single La - but none of us were hit by enemy fighters due to our altitude advantage & close cover & we had (at least I had) the best online fun in a long time if not ever. During this hour of online flying I forgot all about bugs in the game or any other flaws & simply tried all I could to keep my wingy alive & give the enemy a hard time - it was awesome & I wish that a lot more people would fly like this online as it makes the game so much more fun. I know people join squads to do this but my studies, job & social life in general is in the way of making that kind of commitment. My gospel is: Work together! It really brings the game to a higher level. Over.

Very true. Co-ops are my favorite form of online flying. Glad to hear you had a good time. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Yep, working together you can almost achieve anything - at the very least it`ll help keep the enemy off you. Unlike those John wayne characters who must fly and do it all alone and then whine about the plane when they find they can`t kill anything or survive, completely disregarding the fact that fighters in reality never fought alone intentionally.

I've had good experiences for the most part on that server and it does seem to promote co-operation amongst the people there. Its good fun to have when you team up with people.

Also why it annoys me on a dogfight server where there was obvious possibilities for working together and nobody does it. I at the very least give a cursory warning to someone if I can that there is a bandit on their six. Some people ignore me or do stupid things...but I have saved quite a few people by warning them of that bandit closing on them. On occasion, they even do the right sorts of moves to allow me to clear their tail. It'd be nice if this sort of thing happened more often...although I must say that I have had my own tail cleared a few times by some skilled pilots as well.

if we had objectives in a DF arena it would be great. Some maps kinda do this with the round based play.

Maybe if we had advancing and defending ground troops / vehicles to support?

That is what makes co-ops fun. Teamwork is rewarding and required to succeed.

I agree. Team tactics are fun and work really well!

I often do this.. some talk about it being cowardly, i call it sensible. just get lots of altitude, find your friendlies and watch them from above... it helps to have a relaxed attitude and not care about kills. plus, on the fbdaemon (i think thats the name of the prog) servers DF have objectives, or at least an aircraft/pilot count. keeping your friends alive helps you win! plus its nice getting a 'thank you!' or 'S!' from your team mates when you BnZ the unsuspecting La7 noob who was relentlessly pursuing your teammate. As for flying with a wingman, i do this with my brother- with a router we can be in the same server at once, and even teamspeak cant compete with being in the same room for team play.

edit: I can't believe b**ch is counted as a rude word... i mean what if my dog had just had puppies?

Hello Monson74,

I have done that very same thing when I play online on dogfights... It truly brings so much joy to the game. This is really what il2 is all about. Its about teamplaying, not mindless dogfighting where no one teams up and your all alone in the air. ITs really nicer to team up with someone, and guess what? if you get to be on comms its even that much more fun !!
You can actually talk instead of type up while youre in the heat of battle...

Hey, just a side note, the ProudBirds are always recruiting new pilots. New or experienced. It doesnt matter. We are a ver relaxed squad, and we dont place any flight quotas on anyone. You fly when you want and when you can.. This is our committment.
We have something called LIFE. And it gets in the way of having fun sometimes, but we understand.
No requirements, no nothing. You fly for fun.
So if this type of squad suits you, youre welcome to join up..Just send me an email and let me know how you feel, and I will get back to you..

While I agree on one hand that it can be, as you said, far more rewarding than the "John Wayne" stuff, and although my most exciting time online was a team fight in which I was badly damaged over water while helping another guy out, after which every man on my team helped me make it back to base, there's also a problem with teaming. Usually the other team isn't teaming. That means that even if I was willing and in the mood, which I'm not always, the other guys almost always aren't. And do you know what? After I come home from a ****ty day in the hole, the last thing I want is to get shot down over and over again, or spend a long time trying to get a decent team together (you have no clue how hard this is unless you already know them, and even then...). And while being shot down by a superior pilot is always educational and often fun, I do not feel like being gang raped by three, four, or even five inferior players in superplanes (or even not in superplanes, it does not matter with those odds) repeatedly, often without being able to ever get off of the ground due to their rotating landings and vulchings. And there goes my two "friendlies" flying off into butt**** nowhere from airbase whatever in sector nowhere. And they aren't just trying to get altitude either, it's a sight seeing tour for these fools!

In short, I have far better ways to spend my time than getting repeatedly ********ed by multiple noobs in superplanes. Clipping my toenails comes to mind, as does beating my head against a wall. While it would be nice to have a good team game every now and then, or even all the time, this one sided **** just isn't for me. What ends up happening is you do not have any chance in the world of winning no matter how good of a pilot you are. And I'm not that great of a pilot. In addition, you learn nothing from this kind of rapage. It's not like your enemy is demonstrating superior flying skill, they're simply overwhelming you with sheer numbers. Often they suck badly if you can get them alone, but usually you never get to find out whether or not they are good pilots. It's neither fun nor instructional, and I'm just wasting my time.

Well this is mighty kind of you & I really appreciate your invitation but I'm sorry to say that I prefer freelancing. What I would like to do is to open a debate that might make people change the way they fly online. I know this is naive but if there are just ten people out there sharing my taste of flight it would be a blast getting together online now & then. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

It`s actually VERY hard getting people to fly as a team online if they are not part of a Squad, I guess this is why it feels great when I DO mangae to get NON-Squad members to fly as a team.

Normally, I wear my fingers out typing stuff like, "Let`s try and fly in twos" or "I need backup in C4, 2000m", while being completely ignored and while BLUE team (who always seem more disciplined) merrily slaughter RED. And RED simply don`t seem able to work it out.

Best bet is go on a server which has Teamspeak, like Warclouds. It`s very hard for guys to ignore you when they can actually hear your voice (just don`t get rude!).

Totally agree with you SeaFireLIV, that the blues seem to be more organised...the reds need to work more as a team(and i'm more quilty than most for this).
I've just started using the MY ARMY commands(yes i know ive been flying IL2 since it came out and im just starting to use this http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif), so i wondered what commands people put in theirs?
Any improvements welcomed...here are mine:
0:Check your six!!
1:Roger
2:Bandits in area
3:Location, height?
4:Requesting fighter assistance
5:Requesting fighter escort
6: Help!!...badly shotup, requesting immediate assistance
7:Airfield under attack
8:Bandits on my six, please assist
9:Coming into land...please clear runway

Like i said i believe the reds need to get organised, well people like me, but the red squads tend to save the day, so for us indy flyers(and squads who want to help)...what do you put in your MY ARMY commands?

Yes i know teamspeak is the answer, but i dont have mic and head phone set and my PC already suffers enough from stutters and screenfreezes.

I use pretty much the same as you, Monty except I frequently use "draggin" to tell that I got a bandit on my six & I'm trying to drag him in front my wingies. Dunno how many understand this - I saw it myself for the first time about a year ago & it worked fine for blue but they often got the fastest planes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif you know.
