i just got the patch this afternoon and i tested out the spit ....i see that everyone is focusing on teh turn rate which i noticed to be MUCH more sensitive then the mkV....ok i can live with that....but what i AM annoyed with is that the (CW) mkIX turns better than the normal wing which is completely wrong... i can maintain a tight turn with the CW mkIX much longer then i can with the normal wing. the normal wing gets white vapor on its tips much sooner then the CW... All this should be the other way around... the NORMAL wing spit should be able to stay in a tun longer than the CW mkIX...

i know im not wrong about this... but i dout it will be fixed.

oh and getting out turned by a G-2 in a mkIX is laughable http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif

& getting run down by the Mk9 flying the G2 is equally wack

not at all the spit has a higher top speed then the G2 by about 20 mph.....but thats not the point.....

oleg has the turn performances mixed up...the eliptical wing should turn better longer then the clipped.....it just a matter of physics

Are you sure Biggs? I haven't flown the LF alot recently...just the F so its hard for me to say but the clipped wings I didn't feel like I was getting better turn performance out of. You seem to ride the stall much closer...

I'll test it but it may be a matter of feel rather than actually turning better.

Maybe we should arrange to do some online testing and see who can turn tighter http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My experience, as well. In the last thread on this subject, it was concluded that the IX simply doesn't turn as well as the V -- oval or clipped. On my system, I found the IX CW doesn't turn any better or, surprisingly, roll much faster. If you do the online test, come back and let us know the results.

Ok...Bigg's and I ran into each other quite by accident on a server on HL. We decided to do the test and see what happens. He flew with elliptical wings and I flew with the clipped wings.

My own personal notes:
1) The clipped wing accelerates faster and climbs slower (in a short run this can help catch the climber but overall its poorer).

2) The clipped wing feels more prone to stalls at the edge of its flight envelope.

3) Roll rate IS higher but it shows its roll advantage over time and it doesn't snap roll like a FW190.

So here's what we did. We both turned on wingtip smoke so we could see where we were going. Biggs lead the way with the regular wings and I flew clipped. Same settings, 100% fuel, WEP on, 100% throttle...we tried at a bunch of different initial speeds (300 kph, 400 kph, etc.).

The idea was that he would initiate a turn (sustained or snap) and I would try and match my wingtip smoke with his as closely as possible.

The result that we found was that I could not match the eliptically winged Spitfire in a turn no matter what I did. Biggs could always turn tighter and it wasn't by much. What we did find is that once he stopped turning I still had more speed...it seems that the clipped may hold its speed better through the turn despite not being able to follow exactly.

Its not conclusive and I'll let Biggs give his own analysis but I believe things are correct here and I'm not too worried.

IX is heavier and I believe it should have an overall minor reduction in turn. Likely we'll see that with the XIV and the MK 22 as well if either or both are in the game.

Another observation

try speed testing...within plus or minus 5 km/hr I found that all three versions were the same at sea level and 3000 meters...I tested the normal version against the hf at 7500 meters and again they were virtually identical....at 9000 meters the Hf was 20km/hr faster than the normal and the normal was 20km/hr faster than the the Lf clipped wing. I thought I discovered a bug until I went up to 9000 meters.

Not sure if this is how Oleg wanted it, but there just isn't much relative difference in flat out straight away speed...at least as near as I could tell.

I don't want any flames or trolls, but rather someone to test and see if they find the same thing. The clipped wing does roll faster I think, but only at very slow speeds. In real life, the roll rate did drop off with speed, but i think it does so at too low of speeds. I can't tell about the turning ability other than it is a pig at low speeds where the roll rate good so having clipped wings doesn't seem to help. I had very good results energy fighting with it....very good at that.
