In the campaign are we going too meet friendly targets? e.g you spend all night shadowing a big battlegroup only to get up close prepare to attack see its German.. It would be really good if you had to double ckeck to verify your target before you fire..

Seeing as a lot of the Kreigsmarines ships have been modelled I would say that it is a distinct possability that we will meet up with them.

There will be a ship ID manual, accessed from the periscope screen, as in the Video.

Hopefully it won't happen too much. I really hope there will be wolfpack attacks, and multiday convoy battles. at least where appropriate.

It is my hope that I will have to identify ships to ensure that they are a target and not just have every ship a target or have every ship indentified for me as target/non-target.

Cheers,

There could be a "vessel ID by crew" option in the difficulty settings.
Or make it part of the crewmanagement and make it so that only personnel that can see the ship and is qualified to ID it (access to ID book, knowledge of ships) can ID ships.
Or just order them not to ID ships.

As for the need to ID ships begore torpedoing them, there would be several ways to provide a need.
At the beginning of the war there would be neutral ships that BdU would not want you to fire at.
Friendly ships should be left alone for obvious reasons.
Sinking a friendly or neutral ship would result in complaints at BdU and, after they see in your log that you attacked a ship at the same space-time coordinates, the player would get some sort of reprimand.
Scoring can also be a reason to ID ships.
Bigger ships give a better score so the player should target the ships with the highest tonnage first.
Making good IDs could be a way to score too.

and a certain times of the war, uboats sank ships at night based on their behavior.

You know, is hard to identify the nationality of a ship watching it from a periscope. The flag is so small!

Agreed, there were many restrictions placed on U-boats, especially before the entry to the war of America. There should be the ability to place responsibility on our command, and i don't know much about it but neutral ships must have put some obvious signs which given a little bit of direction in a manual or tutorial we should be able to recognize.

If we do make mistakes, then a failure to receive medals or the refusal to offer us the latest boats would be nice, or in the worst case of repeated offence a court martial!

I hope the dev team uses as much info as possible to recreate shipping.

I know a few of the lads would love to sail up close to a neutral or friendly ship enjoying the contact "RedTerex" as it would give something to play with when he plays in real time....
