Being able to actually hearthe enemy sneak up behind you is just plain silly.
For a while there it was fixed but for some reason was brought back for 2.0.

Years from now FB will be remembered as a first class sim, let down by major sound issues.

"If you tell me that it is necessary that we fight, then in the first six months to a year I will run wild, and I will show you an uninterrupted succession of victories. Should the war be prolonged for two or three years....I have no confidence in our ultimate victory" - Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto.

i remember the "sonar" effect when it first came about..but its still hear.....errr HERE!

but is that the reason it was changed?

was it too much high fidelity going on? too much strain for the comps at that time? ive been flying it a lot lately.. its gorgeous, and so far i havent had any probs with it like i do compared to AEP.

BTW
no no! copperhead.... even motrin says"tip top comms. im "BAD COMMS" no more :P

You can hear enemy planes sneak up on you.. You'll notice a considerable difference in engine noise!

Actually, there were several unsavory artifacts of the old sound: the worst of which was the "suddenly, you're in the ship turret" when you'd hear a shell go off kms away, but would sound like it detonated right outside your airplane.

would scare the living sh** out of you!!! for that reason alone, the change was necessary.

I haven't seen much sonar warning, and that's a good thing. You can't hear much inside a running aircraft; perhaps a additional drone if you're in tight formation. You could hear a hint of your own guns (and more often "feel" the vibration through the airframe and the stick)... but you could not hear a plane behind you like you'd hear a fly-by. Just didn't happen.

The current sound, to me, is ok.

The only thing I miss about the old sind is the sound of bullets and shells whizzing by, but I guess that was not really accurate.

The thing that bugs me about the sound (besides the vacuum cleaner tones of the Merlin in Hurris, Spits and Mustangs) is that a near miss from flak is louder than loss of a wing or a collision--and you really should be able to hear bullets hitting the fuselage or cockpit...

cheers

starting up the 109, and a lot of other aircrafts "then" had a lot more too it... some graphics were taken out too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif i kinda liked the "white whisp" of the prop youd see thru cockpit or when viewed externaly

I have to disagree with you on the prop issue, I think we've got a far more realistic prop today. It's actually starting to look like a real prop, instead of having what was basically a "sprite" - just an ugly animation of a spinning prop.
