Hey all,

Has anyone got any tips for newbie onliners? I had my first online experience last nite: downloaded hyperlobby and away I went with my 56k dialup! I found a dogfight game, an it was great, with virtually no stutter or lag, and I even managed to blow some poor sucker out of the sky (after c. 20 attempts /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif )

I'm an experienced IL-2er (I had IL-2 and FB pre-ordered), but I've a coupla queries:

Are there any decent places for online newbs? If so, how do I find them?

Am I going to be pi$$ing people off by increasing ping times with my crappy dialup?

Any comments/tips?

Hi,

I haven't seen that many dedicated newbie-servers, but I've seen lots of newbies on "normal" servers, so why not just join in?

Press 's' when you're online to watch your pings. If they are high >500, I would recommend that you quit and search for another server to play on. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Get photoshop or something, and then you make a flashy big skin on every plane that states : IM A NOOB! DONT SHOOT ME! PLEASE! FOR GOD SAKE DONT SHOOT! with big letters in signalcolours!

Oh, ha ha, I'm not that crap!

When playing last night, a "cheating has been detected" message flashed up, what kind of cheating was this? I was getting paranoid that it was something I was doing inadvertantly!

It's just a case of bad wording. The "cheating has been detected" message pops up, when a data packet has been lost due to a bad connection.

But keep on being paranoid. It's a good state of mind in a dogfight! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Go to

C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\i18n

Open net messages with notepad and add this to the mix...

user_cheating1 {0} The warping gimp detected!
user_cheating2 {0} Is an AOL gamer!
user_cheating3 {0} Is lagging like a fnebbing mofo!

of course you can change the text to whatever but mine is just an example. The change will stop the cheating detected messages and instead you will get the name of the lagger and no more cheating BS messages/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Instead you get...

RBJ: the warping gimp detected!

RBJ: Is an AOL gamer!

RBJ: Is lagging like a fnebbing mofo!

(sorry RBJ your name was just an example your aceness)

Although I stopped playing IL2 about a year ago, when I did play online I was a 56ker like you. Now I have IL2FB, a Cable modem and I really don't notice that much of a difference. As long as your connection is green before you enter the room you shouldn't have a problem.

The only advice I have for you is to have fun and if you p1ss anyone off then that is their problem also I have too warn you that your offline days are numbered hehe /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I hardly ever play offline and when I do I'm usually testing something.
