And one more thing: cockpit should sometimes be impossible to open after ac is damaged, or at least it should take longer time...

Just for fun:
I have read somewhere that in early versions of MiG-1/3 the ground crew screwed cockpit hood over the pilot, so it was impossible to open it during flight... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I would rather see improved/ fixed FM of some planes in FB/AEP. When we dont have it others things will be not so important lol

Yes, and don't forget Torp's that don't explode, dude bombs, engines that go bad, maybe tires that get shot and go flat, landing gear that won't deploy or retract.
Well a lot of things can go wrong, but I see this as a lower priority then FM, maps and flyable AC.

I'd like to see random problems and mishaps. Of course, it should be an on/off option.

I assume this option would be mainly used offline.

For it to be "fun" in an offline campaign you would need to do two things:

1) Have the likelihood of failure relate to your arcrafts state of repair .. in otherwords the more sucessful your campaign the better the maintenance and the less likely a failure.

2) Somehow avoid annoying fatal failures like a sudden total engine failure 100 km behind enemy lines on your first mission you ever got 5 kills. Basically limit the failures to things that throw in a random challenge that it is possible to work with.

This "random failure" stuff will never happen, mainly because it would impact VVS planes more than any others, if done properly.

That Russian workmanship was suspect for the entire war is a FACT. And it's not a knock against Russian industry... no other country had to pack up and move all their factories over a huge mountain range while they were getting pushed back steadily and were in danger of losing their capital. It's really a testament to Russia that they were able to produce such great domestic planes at all by war's end, even IF they were spotty in quality.

Anyway, it might be an interesting toggle switch to have... but it'd be really hard to implement. My God, with the whining we have about things that are fairly measureable, like turn rates, climb rates, dive specs, etc. can you imagine the "weapon jamming" flame wars? The rivet failure blowups???

This would introduce a whole new level of complaining the likes none of us ever want to see.

I do want to have some things added however. For instance, gun jams and problems caused by continous fire is something that I'd like to see. This isn't a randomly occuring item but rather something that would happen to all types of guns if the player pushes them too far (just like anything else).

It would be cool as an offline option, but for multi-play I dont think it is a good idea.

I think it might cause a mass exodus from these forums after 10000 whine threads. While it would be a good thing in some respects how could it be measured? Using statistics? I don't think that would be fair and would cause problems with people for and against it. Maybe with BoB some of these things are possible like blown tires but how could plane defects be accuratly represented in this sim?

Thats epic enough to have Hollywood make a film about it and somehow have the lead character an American.

Seriously, thats a truly amazing feat, the logistics involved must be mind boggling.

FB is as good as it can be

dont think about FB in terms of realism & youll have a more fun time

cause it isnt a realistic sim , its a hella cool game but is too limited to realistically simulate RL

These spontanious malfunctions would be nice. Quite few times cannons jammed (due to cold weather, etc.) I remember that Galland and Trautloft took off once to inspect big air battle from up close (they were inspectors after all). Very large number of US bombers, US escort fighters and about 300 German fighters were fighting over Germany. Soon after their engagement started, they had to go back to the base, because cannons on Trautloft's Fw190 jammed!
