View Full Version : How will the "MOSSIE" work?

Now that the Mosquito has progressed quite far
I am wondering how the pilot/navigator thing will work? I believe they sit in tandem with the navigator slighly back. This will give poor visibilty to the pilot out of the starboard side of the aircraft.(I think).
You could switch to the navigator position but then you lose control of the aircaft? not a good thing in a fighter.
Also would the navigator be represented or will his seat appear empty?

Just curious

Thanks

I think only the Mark VI or the fighter version will be modeled for flyable. Was that still a two person plane?

Should be able to put a body there...won't be a real station but that'd be ok.

All armed Mossies were two seaters with a pilot and a navigator/bombardier/radar operator.
I wonder if it could be arranged so you could "Ctrl C" to the navigator (and autopilot just like the IL-2 and other multi-seaters) have a look round and the Ctrl C back to the pilot. Since the virtual cockpit is modelled for the pilot it shouldn't require much extra modelling work.
Given that the pilot can't move his head position in IL-2 then vision in a Mosquito is going to be somewhat more restricted than reality in anycase. Then again you shouldn't be dogfighting in the Mossie- just get the speed up, attack, and keep going.

If the radar could be featured in FB, there would be a reason for doing the navigator's position. But I think we'll (I write we as I teamed up with Prangster) model the pit just from the pilot's perspective. Using fake 3D textures (as you see in Gladiator and I-185, for instance) requires a nearly static point of view, otherwise they will look distorted and out of place. And the navigator's seat will be empty, like the coopilot's position in TB-3.

Good idea Erbriac!!! It would be silly and pointless to make the navigator's position available IMHO.

navigator was to look out of back/above to make sure they didnt get bounced ?
only way to nail a mossie in midwar was to dive onit because it was too fast http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

4x20mm Hispano's and 4x7.7mm MG's, all in the nose.

That is going to hurt a lot. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

I have no idea when the Mossie will be completed, but rest assured Prangster wants to finish this ASAP as some of the TP chaps have kidnapped his favourite teddy, Rupert and will not release him until we see the Mossie. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

It would make sense to at least have the
typical navigator six-checking position, which
was kneeling on the navigator's seat looking
backwards.

I hope, this "Mossie" will be flyable.

Having been fortunate enough to sit in a mossie a few years ago i can tell you the nav is far enough back not to impede the pilots view.

This will be a great addition to a great game.

Can't wait for this plane - makes sense about the navigator - kinda lonely having his seat empty though but I know all aircraft have to follow the same rules as far as copilots are concerned.

Have you asked Luthier about inclusion in PF as well? I think they were used in the Pacific too.

Very simple.

People will head in the opposite direction of the nearest enemy and RUN.

Only taking potshots at distracted momentary targets, and hit-and-run passes at strike targets.

So where would the bombardier be on the fighter version?
