Been really enjoying all the new planes, and looking forward to the new ones coming.

I understand BOB will be using a new engine and so forth, but we will be getting all our present planes (and maps) along with the Battle of Britain stuff?

I suppose we can always fly these planes in AEP, but it would be nice.

Regards,
TactS!

...um, I think it would be a lot to hope for, all the planes and maps we have now, all redone for the BoB engine. It would be making twice the work for the same product, with the same deadline. Plus, Pacific Fighters is "in queue" as well.

I know a lot of players are dismayed/aggravated/annoyed or even angry about it, but look outside of the FB world:

a new generation of OS and PCs is coming up, the technology always moves forward, and there's nothing that can be done about it. It would be a mistake for Oleg and Co. to focus on FB to the detriment of new projects, and going over the same ground as has already been done is never a good motivator.

Another thing to consider is we already have folks whine about prices..."29 bucks for that?! I'll never buy another Ubi bah blah blah"

So, to my thinking, twice the content of BoB (meaning: BoB plus everything that was laready done in FB) would mean twice the product, twice the work, and twice the pace of development, since FB objects should not be compatible, they will all have to be done again. That would all mean twice the cost. 75-80 dollars US plus tax for BoB?! I don't think so.

When BoB comes out, your copy of FB won't evaporate http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I guess a lot of players nowadays don't know about the days of: here's the product, have fun, don't expect support. We are very, very spoiled in terms of support nowadays, and we have come to expect out favorite games and sims to be supported until doomsday. Unfortunately, this won't be the case http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

"a new generation of OS"

Longhorn's not until 2006, most likely, which
means most won't be on it until 2007. So that
makes XP (or a cross platform development base
allowing targeting of Mac and Linux) the main
OS target. Personally (being an old UNIX/Linux
person) and given those several million Sun
Java Desktops being sold in China, I think a
cross-platform capability is a good option for
future proofing for other OSes, or changes
in Windows.

So that means it won't happen? A new generation OF OS isn't coming up? 2006 is three years away. That's not a long time

And that also means that BoB will ship on time? Correction: it will ship at the time indicated at this early date?

My crystal ball's on the fritz http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif So I stick to my guns.

Tactical ol' pall http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. It would be nice but it would take a long time to add all those planes in for BoB. So the initial version will be just planes from the Battle of Brittain. Which will ofcourse include a bunch of planes we don't have in IL2 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. Now what won't surprise me is that after the BoB release they will start working on new expansions/sims based on this new BoB engine and eventualy we could end up with all the planes in AEP but on a new engine and even more planes never before seen http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. But it will take time so I think eventualy we might get what you want and more but it will come in multiple juicy chunks instead of all at once http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Probably right there mate! Is it fair to say, depending on the differences with BOB, that modifying existing plane models and flight characteristics may be easier and therefore a greater possibility to be included in Bob (initially or eventually)?

It depends on the differences between the two engines but my guess would be that the differences are large enough that it would be more of a rewrite for the new planes rather than tweaking.

What will help them for sure is that they don't have to recollect all the source materials they already have for all the existing planes. That will save them a lot of time that they had to spend when the first added the planes to IL2.

no models in FB will probably ever be seen in BoB

it will all be re-made probably

BoB is a next gen computer hardware game

Computers are in for major overhauls in the tech available in 2004

2005 will be a time for a new Computer , the games being made for 2005 releases will require it
