Check out the PacificAces mod at subsim.com

Its a mod for SHII so one can play US subs in the war against Japan.

Sorry but mods http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif no thanks. I expect to see more than a single nation represented in the original game. Many other developers have managed this feat.

Keep in mind that this is a MOD for SH2. Thinks its a waste of time hoping that ubi will patch SH2 so you can drive othere nations subs.

But maybe the will create an add-on for SH3 that includes a non uboat submarine force ;-)

PS: Many people really like the PacificAces MOD by the way.

Isn't an expansion pack just a glorified mod anyway? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I also would like to see a modern sim about Fleet boats, but until there is one, we have to create it.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Cheers

well Drebbel I certainly wasn't entertaining any thoughts about a patch for SHII, I had simply hoped that SHIII would have offered more than a re hash of SH2
Hows the Med Aces mod coming along Hitman ?

What do you mean "no thanks"? PA for SHII way is better than the original SHII

And what about a human Destroyer I won't get a subgame to play against AI srceens thats no fun than you beter can forget Multiplay because playing human vs AI is already done in single play.
And playing sub against sub thats even more boring I can't see the point there.

I'm perfectly happy just having a U-Boat campaign. I don't really care about the rest of the submarine war outside of U-Boats. I say stay with what works and what has worked since 1996.

Well, i guess i can see what badhat is saying. It would be nice to choose either german u-boats in the atlantic, or us subs in the pacific, or something like like.

But i dont agree about the mods. If the guys that did PA for SH2 did a PA mod for SH3, then i would be all about it for sure.

i'm agree with Dargo 1! the playing against AI is for the young player, the trong player love the play against human destroyer, and the virtual fleet (Dr65, MS, WPL etc....) playing in human sub VS human destroyer, dont forget it and you dont think only for you, if you like to play against AI, ok but in this game the maker must think that there are many player want to playing against human Destroyer! mister UBI, please make the Destroyer command 2!

U have to remember, this IS a "Naval Simulation", whether u MP, or SP one is going to spend the majority of ones time, battling/hunting down NPC AI vessels.

Virtual fleets is an exellent expansion , where human players r mixed in with NPC's.
Co-operative gameplay, in wolfpacks, or surface hunter/killer groups, needs, if the intended emersion element is to be maintained, AI counter-parts.
But to have just a bunch of players, in "just" subs and destroyers, is no more exciting, than an hours fumble on HF, quake, RTCW, etc. Just with much bigger weapons. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

i agree most multi-player games are no matter what the genre very dirivative of quake ..maybe in extreme slow motion in the case of a subsim..but it's still the same old theme...he who gets the most kills wins..and as all to frequently multi-player games are ruined by having to read the utter bilge written in the chat bar as so and so ****s of and insults so and so...and so and so ****s of and insults so and so back...all hope of atmospheric gameplay and or immersion goes completely out the window..my criteria for multi-player games all to often boils down to wether or not i can turn the chat bar off!!! it's like being back at school..."i'm the king of the castle" was pretty tedious back then...tho most folks never seem to tire of it .. waste of time and effort..

actually the only game where this is tolerable having said all that is in fact Quake!!! as it's allmost an accepted part of the gameplay, it being staight forward ,out and out, competition, and doesn't pretend to be anything other than that...tho i allways managed to resist the temptation my self..
but in any other more seriuos simulation it just is so out of character for the game that it's impossible to maintain any immersion..reading a "conversation" that inevitably ends in some-one with an hyper heroic nametag caling someone else with an equally hyper heroic name tag "gay"..makes me wonder (surely im not alone) why they bothered going on-line in the first place..!!!!

That's human nature. competitive MP games, such as Quake, & Co.Instills the deep routed animal instinct in us all. its not all about getting that phyical "Bodycount", its also the phcyological competiveness.

These fast paced "death Games" can reduce the most sanest, boring office clerk into a demented loon - im testimony to that http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

He! He! i understand i was in a Quake clan for a while (only a small one)..played it solid for months..finally my brain gave out..couldn't keep the pace up ..don't mind it in Quakers and the like;
but in a subsim where it takes three quaters of an hour to scratch your nose, it's like opening a good novel and finding that someones scrawled expletives all over it in red biro!!

just seems really out of place..like shouting in a library or taking a flashlight to the cinema and making animal shadows on the screen;
