View Full Version : Raaid has inspired me to suggest some ideas for the forums

such as

1) perhaps a "voting" system for banning members (based on IP addresses) - such as three strikes and your out - members of the forums nominate other members posts to a moderator - if the moderator agrees - then the member may make two other trolling/idiotic posts, and then has his IP address banned !! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif great idea

2)Everyone must have to do an IQ test before being allowed to post

eg a minimum IQ of 75 is required

3) an age limit - such as 12 - anyone under may not post
- although that is a bit unfair to younger players - who don't post cr*p so actually probably a better idea is a "proper" forum for 16 year olds and above and a "tomy time my first forum" for under 16's who can write as much shyte as they like. without p*ssing the more mature, sensible people off - rather like your local bus company putting on a special bus service to take the kids to school - instead of diverting the bus that you always have to catch in order to go to work, thus making you endure an hour of inane shouting and high pitched annoying voices before and after work.

4) perhaps we could get together and write a program that is similar but far superior to the current curse word detector - it could detect stupid posts and prevent them from ever being posted !!

Maybe Baynesian (SP?) filters could be used, just as they are for spam filtering, together with voting. If enough many readers vote for a post being stupid, its characteristics will go to the filter and similar posts in the future will be filtered out.

IP filtering works poorly. Many users either have dial-up accounts, or some kind of semi-permanent connection using DHCP with short timeouts, so an IP is only locked to one user for a short time. It will also be frustrating for the next user from the same ISP, who is a Good Poster, but will be locked out because of what someone (s)he never heard of has done.

IQ and age limits makes sense, in a way, but are very difficult to enforce. They are so sensitive to man-in-the-middle attacks.

The problem is how to start anything that depends on voting. This post, for example, would by all Stupid Posters who feel threatened, be voted as stupid, so chances are it would be filtered out before (m)any Good Posters would see it /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif .

im gonna take this personally /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

its true there are some stupid kiddies that post only .... (i know enough myself) but most likely teens in this age are not that unmature. it would be really unfair to ban all of them..
had to say this...

h*ll, why do i care, im 16 in 16 days... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I think that maybe the best way to deal with it is to not respond to the post. What was funny about that guy is he started off by saying he was leaving and is "still" around. In fact he probably is looking at this forum more then ever to see if anyone is responding to him. I think he just wants someone to talk/fight with as most of these flamers do. It would have been real funny though if no one reponded at all. That would have been the worse thing for this guy to see. I guess i'm not practicing what i'm preaching as I type this but just this one time.

I just don't look at his post any longer. The last ones I looked at was about using the trim to cheat. The whack thing about it is, you can do this in FB, the controls just didn't work quick enough for him. Lol S!

Yes, this is the real "IQ test". Too bad so many fail it..

Actually it's really not worth it much anymore. Between the whinning and general tone of most users most of the fun has gone away for many, including myself. The actions of some long time and new users make it difficult to enjoy.

Myself,I have grown very tired of it. People can say what they wish about UBI or 1C it really doesn't matter as it is their opinion.....opinions rarely are based on fact though /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif .

My involvment here is much much lower than ever and I really don't see a turn around in the near future. I'll continue to update Mudmovers with Jim but as far as the community is concerned my input will be limited from here on out. The negative tones from most users make it a very unfriendly environment to be part of. I don't come here to walk away pissed off or stressed out, which is what is happening now....

In time if things change maybe I'll find the time again but currently it's not worth the aggrevation I get on a daily basis.

Damn, Hunter, that is bad news. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
I have to agree with you though. I've noticed that a lot of the old timers have been posting less and less, and it's not because they're all over at CWOS either.
Things have got markedly worse since the patch(es) came out, but it was starting to get sad before. Btw, I at least appreciate what you and some of the others have done for this community.
Regards,
Dunkelgrun.

mods have the ability to do so, theres also ways around it, By having a voting system these multinamed people who don't produce or add to the game or community can simply create multiple accounts and ban users who been here since il2 sturmoviks release.

Maybe thunak will stepup and clean this place up, seems all the 1c staff visit the french and german forums more and dont even bother reading or being a part of the english forums.
