I recently started to play this game... I used to play flight simulators since I was 10 so I've never been so bad at them. Well... I'm a total newbie at this one... and I really don't know how to learn the basic combat flight maneuvers. When I've got someone on my tail what do I have to do? What about the throttle? Do I have to go faster or slower? They always shot me down. And when I'm on their tail when do I have to shoot? Is there anyone that can give me some hints or showing me where I can find them... my ICQ UIN is 16007417 and my e-mail is kurko@tiscalinet.it thank you

Check out some of the links at the top of this forum, under the sticky "Sturmovik Essentials".

You'll find a few sites that have air combat tactic pages. Further, some Sqn sites also offer this - AFJ and VMF-214 for example.

Welcome to IL-2!

There is a link in my sig to the IL-2 User's Guide. It doesn't yet have a lot of info on combat, but I'm working on that.

Meanwhile, for combat tutorials you can check out these two important resources:

Every now and then it`s nice to have some new pilot honestly ask, "How do i fly and fight."

Pity, the answer is so complicated.

Hey Seafire - change your cartoon please. I'm not finished whining about my P-47 yet either http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If the answer weren't so complicated, I wouldn't still be interested in the answer or even in the sim. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A good advice is to learn ( be aware of) the different basic maneuvers, and another is to stick to a few similar planes in the beginning and get familiar with them .
when u have done this (takes awhile) Its much easier to get in to more detailed discussions about tactical matters.
for example; if u know what a scissoring fight is, then it is time to look at the various situations that might lead to it, how to avoid it and disengage from it. It is important to know the basics before the discussions bcause it takes lots of space and time to explain basic things .

also remember that there can be multiple solutions to a tactical problem.

so investigate the above posts and u get a lot of basic info.

--------------------------------------------

I havnt seen Ur flying so it is very difficult to guess on what "level" u are and give tactical advice. It also depends much on what plane u are in and what u fly against.
Usually beginners online have no watcharound routine and get shot down bcause of this.

Veterans or aces can fly their planes to the limit, a newbie cant. And mostly the aces also know the advantages and disadvantages of their opponents planes. This and tactical awareness is what does the trick.

This is one of the fun things with fb. Anyone can improve but it takes some time and effort.

Cheers
