Here is a pic of my first "rough draft" of my Akers-Barnes pit. So far I really like it. A few tweaks and I'll love it!

And here's my previous setup. I still have all the brackets and armitures and plan on incorporating them in my new pit. The difference is my wife hated the previous setup as the brackets always got in her way (yes, we shared this particular pc). Now she doesn't have an issue. I have my pc in my pit and she can get on the one still in the desk.

Win-win

This is my office, would really like to build one of those "Joyrider"( http://www.acesim.com/main.html ) motion simulators though...

http://img63.photobucket.com/albums/v193/Uber_Numpty/Cockpit.jpg

http://img63.photobucket.com/albums/v193/Uber_Numpty/Joyrider.gif

* REAL FEEL responsiveness and balance
* Maximum motion range (positive G's only for now)
* Progressive stick resistance and stability
* Simple low-tech mechanical control activation
* Smooth ball-bearing suspension
* Full motion range, figure "8" stick stir - 2 SECONDS
* 24 degrees of pitch and roll range
* Hands off stability with one finger sensitivity
* Weight range - fully motion tested with a 210 pound pilot
* Can use a variety of display options

mmmmm....

Believe it or not that's a 19" LCD. It really looks smaller in those slightly distorted pics. I'm quite close to moving up to the 21.3" version (Samsung 213T) in another month or so.

As far as the case goes, yes Antec BestBuy special. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

That pc is getting ready to move to the desk though as my new Gaming rig is nearing completion. It will all be housed in a shiny new CoolerMaster Praetorian aluminum chassis. I'm simply waiting for the 6800 Ultra's to become more readily available (maybe 2 more weeks)

Very nice pit Thunderbolt56. I have the same plans and will be working on cutting one out soon.

What changes would you recommend?

Lol. The Joyrider seems to be made entirely from plastic water waste pipes and joiners. Really cheap materials. Very clever.

Some of the designs on this page are pretty ridiculous, but some of them are ingenious!

No pictures, but mine is the same.

Mine has a 28" monitor on it though. Its not a very good monitor, but it fills the senses http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Diablo:

I extended my x45 this weekend just to see what its like. I LOVE having my stick in the center!! It totally rocks.

BUT: the sloppiness of the gimbals makes the stick a royal pain in the rear. By adding length to the stick, the slop gets amplified.

I got that control board a few weeks ago, so i'll be engineering a new stick anyways.

I prefer to have my stick sloppy.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Yeah, you were right about that. Add length = add big fat nasty dead-zone.

I found some slide-pots on ebay $cheap and ordered them. I'm convinced that I can get rid of the slop by using aligned dual pivots (most joysticks have the pivots stacked one on top the other), linear pots, and some elbow grease.

Remember the twisted stick idea? I turned the grip to the left a few degrees (like some modern aircraft) so that my wrist is in a natural alignment when holding on to the grip. It worked out exceptionally well.

Overall, I'm very pleased with having the longer throw stick placed in front of me, but the sloppiness around center is just show-stopper. If I get my parts this weekend I'll be flying on a very precise stick next week.

I need to get a camera!
