The Helix initiate is an individual who was occasionally contacted by the Assassin known as Bishop. They were tasked by her to relive the genetic memories of Arno Dorian in order to find the Sage François-Thomas Germain and the twins Jacob and Evie Frye to locate the Shroud of Eden.

BiographyEdit
Exploring the French RevolutionEdit
In 2014, the Helix user was contacted by Bishop after they had completed a playthrough of the memories of a French Templar serving under the Templar Grand Master and a Sage, Jacques de Molay. She explained to them that they were being manipulated by Abstergo Industries to sift through memories, following which she asked them to experience an unsequenced set of Arno Dorian's memories. Once the Initiate had completed the first sequence, Bishop offered them a chance to join the Assassins.[1]

After the Initiate accepted, Bishop sent them a video file of Abstergo's Phoenix Project, explaining that the Templars were searching for Sages both in the present and the past so they could sequence a full Precursor genome. The Initiate was tasked with exploring Arno's memories, as he had reportedly encountered a Sage at some point during his life time. In this way, the Assassins hoped to find out where said Sage's remains had ended up and recover them before the Templars could.[1]

When the Initiate completed certain memory sequences, Abstergo began performing a server sweep, forcing the Initiate's avatar to flee through Helix rifts to avoid being detected, transporting them into other historical periods in Paris.[1]

The Initiate's research eventually revealed that Arno had buried François-Thomas Germain's remains in the Parisian catacombs. This left Bishop satisfied with the results, as the bones would be too degraded for Abstergo to collect genetic memory data from them. She then asked the Initiate to continue searching Arno's memories for any information that could aid the Assassins.[1] An additional sequence of Arno's memories was later explored by the Initiate, who discovered that Arno had found an Apple of Eden underneath Saint-Denis and sent it to Egypt.[2]

Exploring the Victorian EraEdit
In 2015, the Initiate was contacted again by Bishop, this time to help herself and fellow Assassins Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane locate a Piece of Eden in London. Through camera drones, the Initiate watched the pair of Assassins conduct their field work and download the memories of Jacob Frye and his twin sister Evie Frye. Later on, the Initiate discovered that the artifact the Templars were after was a Shroud of Eden.[3]

During their explorations of Victorian London, the Initiate was contacted by Juno and sent forward into time, following Lydia Frye as she fought German spies in a war-torn London. Through Lydia's memories, the Initiate found another Sage. Juno spoke of her past, her working to save the world with other members of the Isu and the death of her husband. Though the Assassins saw it as their duty to fight her, she told the Initiate that another Assassin had "sided" with her previously and hoped they would too.[3]

Thanks to the Initiate's work, Shaun, Rebecca and Master Assassin Galina Voronina were able to find the vault where the Shroud had been stored. The Initiate then watched as the group of Assassins engaged Isabelle Ardant and her escorts, Juhani Otso Berg and Violet da Costa; ultimately Violet managed to escape with the artifact during the struggle.[3]

Despite the loss of the Shroud, Bishop was confident they would recover it in time and thanked the Initiate for their efforts. She then sent them a final piece of footage from Abstergo's computers.[3]

The Initiates' satellite network
The Initiates are a clandestine collection of individuals, whose aim it is to discover and reveal illicit information about both the Assassin Brotherhood, and the Templar-led Abstergo Industries. Instead of the Internet, which is controlled by corporations and governments that intend to keep the populace unaware of the Assassin–Templar War, they post information on a separate network, dubbed the "Outernet" by Rebecca Crane, transmitted by a series of small, supposedly obsolete satellites.

They are led by four anonymous individuals, and are funded by a number of interested private citizens, and count among their supporters billionaires, those with military connections, and members of both Harvard University and MIT.

In 2012, a member of the Initiates leaked sensitive information from Abstergo's database.[1] Since May 2013, two of their operatives, Eric Cooper and Stephanie Chiu, have recorded updates on the Assassins, having infiltrated the crew of the Altaïr II. They were discovered the following year, but the Assassin leaders William Miles and Gavin Banks chose to spare them, seeing the group as potential allies. Shaun Hastings soon managed to hack into the Initiates Database, leaving a message aimed at encouraging the Initiates to join the Assassins, rather than simply stand back and watch from afar.[2]

In November 2014, William intended to hire the Initiates as support operatives and as trainees for the Assassins.[3] He assigned Bishop to act as their handler.[2] That same month, Bishop and Shaun, the latter going with the handle of "Deacon", contacted and assigned an Initiate to search and identify a Sage that was active during the French Revolution through Arno Dorian's memories. Eventually, the Initiate found out that the Sage was called François-Thomas Germain and that Arno had buried his remains in the Parisian Catacombs. This left Bishop satisfied with the result, as the bones would be too degraded for Abstergo to collect any DNA samples from them.[4]

An additional sequence of Arno's memories was later explored by the Initiate, who discovered that Arno had found an Apple of Eden underneath Saint-Denis and sent it to Egypt.[5]

In November 2015, Bishop contacted the Initiate again, this time to locate a Piece of Eden in London through the memories of Jacob and Evie Frye. Later on, the Initiate discovered that the twins were looking for a Shroud of Eden, and that it was located underneath Buckingham Palace.[6]

In December, Bishop gave the Initiates some additional memories sequences to keep the connection between them and Helix stable, before passing a directive from William Miles informing the drop out of all communications with the Initiates and the Assassins, to stop them from being targeted by Abstergo.

"I'm not sure what to do next... quit my job? Or press forward. There is still so much work to do..."
―The Abstergo Entertainment research analyst, 2013.[src]
The Abstergo Entertainment research analyst, known amongst their fellow researchers as "Noob" due to their recent arrival, is a former employee of Abstergo Entertainment that was assigned to the Sample 17 Project. They were tasked with reliving the memories of the pirate Edward Kenway, in order to gain footage for a product that would feature him.

BiographyEdit
On their first day of work, the employee started a diary detailing their experience at the company. Not long after their induction, the employee was enlisted by IT head John Standish to hack computers, Animi, security cameras, and servers around Abstergo Entertainment's Montreal facility in order to obtain information on Abstergo's actions for the Assassins, though the employee was not originally aware of this.[1]

The employee was also charged with passing on this information to Rebecca Crane and Shaun Hastings, who routinely collected it at Shaun's coffee stand in the building's lobby. While the employee first believed these activities to be innocuous, they soon became suspicious of John, regarding him as mentally ill.[1]

Eventually, the hacking activity was discovered at the same time that the company's Chief Creative Officer, Olivier Garneau, went missing. In response, Olivier's stand-in, Melanie Lemay, reluctantly imprisoned the analyst and several other employees in bunkers in the basement, where they would continue their work until the hacker could be identified.[1]

Subsequently, John raised the employee's security clearance so that they could leave their bunker, and instructed them to hack the main server in order to cover their tracks. Unbeknownst to the employee, following John's instructions activated a program designed to transfer Juno's consciousness into another body; unfortunately for John, Juno was not yet strong enough to maintain a physical form, and this aspect of the plan failed.[1]

John then entered the employee's bunker while they were using the Animus and revealed himself to be a Sage, a reincarnation of Aita. He attempted to poison the employee, weakening them enough that their body could host Juno. However, he was shortly caught and killed by Abstergo's security guards.[1]

The employee later woke in Melanie's office, where she apologized for imprisoning them. She claimed that while she originally believed them to be the hacker, information recovered from John's computer proved that he was responsible. After Melanie revealed the completed trailer for Devils of the Caribbean as a token of good will, the analyst was allowed to return to work.[1]

While the analyst headed back to their Animus, Shaun and Rebecca contacted them, apologized for getting them into such a mess with John, and offered to recompense the employee if they continued to obtain information on Abstergo Entertainment. The analyst considered their offer, given that having level three security clearance made it unlikely they would be discovered again.[1]

By November 2014, the analyst had left Abstergo Entertainment. On 2 November 2014, Melanie Lemay lamented to Álvaro Gramática the analyst's departure, as they would have been skilled enough to explore Arno Dorian's genetic memories. Since the analyst's departure, Abstergo had trouble finding researchers who were able to handle the memories of individuals with a high count of First Civilization DNA.[2]

TriviaEdit
As stated by developers, the research analyst is meant to be the embodiment of the player themselves in the Assassin's Creed universe, and thus their identity is left ambiguous.[

The Helix research analyst, referred to as "Numbskull" by Violet da Costa and "Cipher" by Juno, is an employee of Abstergo Entertainment tasked by Juhani Otso Berg to finish reliving the memories of Shay Cormac stored in the Helix, after a sudden computer virus outbreak. During these events, the analyst kept a diary and repaired several of their colleagues' computers and tablets.

After their task was complete, Melanie Lemay, along with Violet and Berg, invited the analyst to the CCO's office. There, Berg told the analyst that the data they extracted from Shay Cormac's memories had served them well, and that Shay's story conveyed a message to the modern Assassins, stating that when pressed, what an Assassin truly wants isn't freedom, but order. It was then revealed to the analyst that Melanie, Violet and Berg were all members of the Templar Order. From there, the analyst was given a choice to join the Templars, or refuse and be killed by Berg. According to the analyst's diary, they then gave the analyst some time to think it over.

A full modern day game could be interesting. But focus less, perhaps, on the killing and assassination stuff, more on the story, sort of a continuation of Initiates
