I know we are the one percenters, but I'd like to request a few more air racing objects.

1) prefab direction markers. could be simple white "painted" arrows. large. maybe just straight, left bend, right bend. making arrows from fires is a pain and doesn't look right.

2)an "active" start finish line, set like a homebase. just plant it, turn it the direction it needs to be and its done. some simple lap timing and counting would be awesome.

maybe an FB air racing add on? I'd pay a few bucks for planes and objects.I love the combat but once in awhile racing is a good change of pace.

and if anyone involved in 1cmaddox reads this, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! S~ http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

was racing last nite and ran across even more of us 1% ers. doesnt anyone else believe that a timing add on would make racing great in FB?

Not clear what type of timing your asking for, is it a start and finish or a some sort of lap timer? I'd think start and finish would already be in place with the logged take-off and landings, unless of course you air start.

For lap timers, can't you flash nav lights or smoke for now, those events now have a time log active. You may have to activate your log files in the .ini though for them to save.

Would like to see huge cylindrical white course markers though, like 200 meters high and about 40 thick so even a blind guy could see them. The pylons as they are now are not visable enough to be useful in any kind of long cross country course. I usually wind up using a huge castle or building, even those are too small to see at 500Kph through a canyon.

I'd like some fly through the key hole type obsticles, and the huge pylons would be great to set up a slalom course. Some turning slashing circular revolving saws would be fun. The old Pop Eye type pile driver with a half second fly through time would be a laugh.

Most air races are conducted with a start from the ground on the runway. Can you imagine the frustation and patience it would take (even among 1%'ers) to convince 10 pilots to get into formation and cross the start line together?

Also, real air race courses have rather small plyons. The markers objects in FB are comparatively huge. When everyone knows the course the need for huge markers is reduced. Most of the problem comes from noob pilots and everyone who doesn't wish to forum up in-flight before race start.

About timing.. yes it would be wonderful. Not sure if it's gonna happen.

I'd also like at least 1 "mission" for offline play which was a race with racing AI.

maybe a ribbon you can cut through with your prop? j/k
timing would be cool, more obsticles would be cool, me winning a race...
good idea Icarus!

most maps use the smoke stacks. mind im not a hardcore racer. missed last 2 weeks meetings http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
some BIG arrows. also in real air racing its in the desert isnt it? while most of our courses go over forests and stuff http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you're interested in Air Racing just click the link at the bottom of this message.

At the il2airracing site are plenty of racecourses to d/l as well as at Mudmovers:

http://www.mudmovers.com/Sims/FB/fb_racing.htm

A lap timer would be nice, especailly for practice.

If you want arrows, use airfield camfires. They work in broad daylight.

For somthing different, open up a race course in the FMB, mark the course with campfires and set the time to midnight.

Sputnik used to run a georgeous course on HL. Don't see him much anymore though.

Air Racing is a great way to learn planes you wouldn't normally fly, learn low level flying techniques, aircraft trim and CEM.

Since FB has expanded to an extent noone could expect when the original IL-2 game was released, I think it would be only logical to put at least some small attention to the air racers.
Air racing has been around for quite a long time now, and a few minor additions in a future patch for the race creators would sure help a lot.

So I hereby support the request for some add-ons specifically designed for air racing!

Competitions don't always have to involve guns & bombs, you know.

wow been a little bit since I looked here but appreciate all the feedback.

timing as in an "active" start/finish line.it starts when you cross it, and stops after a predetermined number of passes through it. it needn't keep track of where the planes go but a minimum lap time might be nice.

that way people can look and say, wow, look at my lap times and how much better theyve gotten. and start lights for the flyers would eliminate chat lag issues with the starts. when Ive raced I have started from the ground, drag race style. I was aware of air starts but wuld work with same timing. host hits a key and makes the line "active" and starts the race.

I am very impressed with what is being done with whats available, but as good as fires are they lag players with bad connections and lower quality vid cards. some objects like big painted arrows or whatever would presumably be easier to place, and also easier on online play.

hadnt thought of or known about the log thing, will definitely see if that can be used for lap times or not.dont know how youd reliably get split times or anything though.

I understand Oleg and crew are very busy with many projects, but maybe someone , sometime in the future might consider some little things, itd make great racing even better.
